The origins for The Joker are not clear. It is believed that he was part of shady deal gone wrong, which Batman interrupted causing the soon to be clown into a vat of unknown chemicals. Hugo Strange believes that he made it all up in order to not take responsibility for his actions that day. After his transformation he made it his mission to kill Batman but later went against this. He finds that Batman is the soul reason that he exists. He thinks that if Batman were dead then they could never play a constant game of back and forth.
