Chapter 4: The Knight and the Clown

Narrator

Joker stood on a bridge, humming to himself a joyful tune. He's been waiting patiently for tonight, Batman was finally released from the hospital. He had set everything up to be perfect. After all, Gotham loves a good come back. He turned around to see if he had arrived yet, to his disappointment he stood alone.

"Ugh! Where is he!?" Joker yelled in agitation, he pulled out a Walkie-talkie and spoke in it,

"Harley! Any sign of the Bat?" There was no response,

"Harley!?" Again nothing, Harley always responds to Joker no matter what. 'What could she be doing?'  He thought. He checked to see if he was in the correct station and he was, so what was the issue? Then from the speaker he heard a faint sound, he quickly started to mess with it. Then he heard a voice,

"Where's the girl Joker!?"

"Boy Blunder!? Ughhhhhh, are you kidding me!?"  Joker groaned, "it's just one thing after another."

"What? Mad cause I'm here to stop you?"

"Yes actually! Cause I want your boss to stop me!"

"He's not my boss. And Batman isn't coming." Joker smacked himself in the face, he couldn't believe what was happening. As Joker ruffled his hair in aggravation, a dark figure approached from behind him. Joker sensed something closing in on him, he slowly pulled out a gun and quickly turned around to point the gun at whoever it was but was met with a sudden hard punch. Joker fell back and hit his head on the pavement, he looked up and to his surprise it's was the man of the hour, The Knight.

"Batsy!" Joker exclaimed, as he jumped up and back. "You've kept me waiting for quite some time." He said with an exaggerated tone.

"And I've been waiting to put you back in Arkham."

"How rude! I save your life and that's how you thank me? Where are your manners?"

"One good thing doesn't redeem the years of crime you've done." Batman said as he walked closer to Joker. Joker smiled, this is exactly what he wanted. Him and Batman alone together under the moon waltzing the dance they know all too well. Joker started with a punch, Batman swayed to the side, grabbing Joker's hand he pushed it away as he punched him twice in the stomach. Joker fell down, he then knocked Batman of his feet with a sweep kick, Batman fell down hitting his head. Joker then stood up, pulled out a knife and tried to stab him in the chest. Batman grabbed Joker's wrist and kept it away. Joker used both of his hand to push the knife down, Batman with ease pushed his hands away as he sat up, in doing so leaving only inches of space between them. They could feel each other's breath on their faces, there was an unusual long pause as they sat there staring at each other. Joker was confused, he wondered to himself why he isn't doing anything, why he's just sitting there. Batman wondered the same. They both felt the urge to close the gap between them. Suddenly, Batman punches joker, it surprised Joker, so much so he didn't do anything in response. He quickly snapped out of it and rushed to his feet. For another moment again, they only looked at each other, their eyes locked on the other's. There have been plenty of times where there was tension between them, but this time it was different. There was a pressure, a heat. Joker's heart tugged at him, he didn't understand what he was feeling. Batman quickly knocked Joker out. He then tied him up and left him on the bridge for the police to deal with.

Batman stood on a building, his thoughts wondering about the feelings he had felt when he locked eyes with him. It bothered him. His heart ached with a familiar heat he only felt for her. He loomed over the edge, getting ready to leave when suddenly a voice called out to him.

"Hey." Bruce stopped moving, he froze in his place hearing that voice once again. He turned around and looked at her. It was her...

It was Selina..

"What are you doing here?" Bruce asked bluntly, he wasn't trying to be rude it just came out that way.

"Don't tell me you're still upset about that?" She said as she walked closer to him. Bruce couldn't look her in the eye, he was scared to.

"I'm not." He said, obviously lying.

"Bruce, you don't have to lie to me, I know you were hurt by what had happened. I was too. Which I why I came back to find you." Bruce looked at her,

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, I want to try again. I still love you Bruce." Selina said as she cupped his face. Her touch was a high that Bruce never wanted to end, he placed his hand on hers.

"I still love you too." Bruce said almost in a whimper. As soon as he said those words, Selina had no hesitation to kiss him. They shared each other's embrace under the moon, they've been craving this moment. Unbeknownst to them, Joker stood on the opposite building, he managed to get away from the cops. Looking at them filled him with an ache, an ache he wasn't familiar to. It hurt. He clenched his shirt, his fists grew tighter and tighter. He hated the sight of them together, it's only supposed to be him and the Bat!

The Knight and the Clown.
