Chapter 2: Playing the cards

Narrator

Abandoned Building

After that night on the bridge, Joker has been thinking about Batman non stop. Not once has he ever left his mind. Joker sat in his chair occasionally spinning around in circles to cure his hurting brain and boredom, striving to find an answer to his problem. Suddenly, he heard rolling. Joker looked in the direction it was coming from, it was Harley and her roller skates.

"Harley, my sweet!" Joker yelled as he shot up with open arms, "Please tell me you got something for me?" Joker wined.

"Sorry Puddin', I looked all over and didn't find the Bat anywhere." Harley said as she rolled over to him. Joker groaned and slouched back into his chair.

"It's hopeless!" Joker exclaimed, he whirled himself around facing the window to the outside. Harley rushed over to him and started to rub his shoulders. Joker sat there in a moment of despair, his thoughts piled in his head. He grew agitated by the minute, He thought of ways he could attract Batman's attention, terrorism, murder, robbery. All great choices, but simply not enough. Joker sat there pondering some more, his mind dissociating from reality.

"Don't worry, you'll think of something, and when you do, Batman won't know what hit 'em!" Harley said trying to encourage Joker. He smiled slightly, seeing Harley make an effort to brighten things up made him feel better. He stood up and looked at her,

"Oh Harley!" Joker shouted as he wrapped his arms around her. "What would I do without you?" Harley giggled,

"Awe shucks," She said as she hugged him back, "ya making me blush!" Joker let her go and kissed her on the cheek.

"My Harley! You inspire me!" He said as he walked away giggling. Harley stared longingly at him, watching him walk away knowing he's only thinking about Batman is heart wrenching. Harley knows what this is. To joker, it's just him wanting to fight Batman till the bitter end, but it's more than that. Harley sees all the signs and knows them too well. Joker doesn't hate Batman...

He's in love with him.

Wayne Manor

"Master Bruce, is everything alright?" Alfred asked, as he walked into Bruce's office.

"Yes I'm fine Alfred." Bruce said, half annoyed.

"I think I know you well enough to know when you're not." Bruce sighed, he lean back in his chair staring at the ceiling.

"If you don't wish to talk about it, I understand. But please, try to get some rest. You'll need it for tonight."

"Is there a possibility for me not to go?"

"I'm afraid not sir." Bruce groaned, he rubbed his face. He really wasn't feeling up for a party at the moment. That comment the joker made about Cat woman, really got to him. Though he hasn't shown it that break up was hard for him. Selina was the only person who understood him, the only person whoever made him feel loved. All the pain he felt back then came rushing back, to be completely honest he never got over her.

"Fine." Bruce stood up and walked away. He didn't want to think about any of this anymore, he'd rather sleep than stay awake. Once getting into his bedroom, he dressed into something more comfortable. He laid down in bed and almost instantly started falling asleep. He thought about what would happen tonight at the party, he really wasn't interested in going but he knew there was no way out of it. Putting all those thoughts aside he finally fell asleep.

At the party

Bruce arrived at the place, he was well dressed in a nice, sleek black suit partnered with a red tie. His hair slicked back as it usually is. He stepped out the car and began walking up to the building, he adjusted his sleeves and fixed his overcoat. Walking in, he was immediately hit with the sweet scent of perfume. Smoke was floating all around the room, he could hear classy music play from a distance. Bruce sighed and tried to look for something that could entertain him. Seeing as there was no one he really knew there, he walked straight to the bar.

"Hello sir! What can I get for you?" The bartender asked, a little too peppy for this kind of party.

"A Bourbon please."

"Right away sir." The bartender said. Once he walked away, Bruce began to look around the room, desperate to find someone he knew. Suddenly he recognized someone, It was Selina Kyle. Great, of course she'd be here. Bruce looked away and stared at the bar's table, the bartender then came back and gave him his drink. He took a quick swig and tried to rid his mind of Selina. Once he finished his drink he walked away from that room, he wasn't ready to face her, not so soon. It was almost abnormal for Bruce to feel this way about seeing someone who he's been in some type of relationship with, but his relationship with Selina wasn't just some relationship. It was real. He couldn't bare to think about it any longer, he walked out to the balcony. Breathing the fresh air helped calm his nerves. He gazed at the city below him, he desperately wished to not be at this party. Seeing Selina made everything worse. He didn't know what to do. His thoughts warped into an amalgamation of nothingness as he forced all traces of Selina out. Once at peace again, Bruce pulled out a box of cigarettes. He wasn't much of a smoker, usually hates to do it. But right now is an exception. He put one in his mouth and lit it. Taking a deep inhale and exhaling soon after, things felt fine again, normal, how they should be. Then all of a sudden, Bruce heard an explosion in the main room. He froze for a moment, in pure shock. Bruce ran into the main room, he looked around and saw all the destruction and casualties, he tried to look for who was responsible, But then...

Everything went black.
