The Dark

You found yourself taking a walk through Gotham, despite it being in the middle of the night.
The silence seemed almost overwhelmingly loud when suddenly you felt someone grab you, dragging you into an empty alley way.
"Give me your money!" The voice demanded, he reeked of alcohol and vomit.
"I-I don't have any!" You plead as you eyed the large figure pinning you against the wall.
"Bull shit!" He began to feel up your pockets, though his search was interrupted when you stomped with all of your might on his foot, causing his grip loosen just enough for you to escape. You ran as fast as you could away, though to your demise he managed to catch up to you, pinning you once more on the sidewalk. This time he pulled out something you failed to notice your first encounter with the stranger.
A knife.
He pressed the cold blade against your throat "Give me your damn wallet!" He demanded.
You flinched at the strangers loud, demanding voice until you noticed someone standing in front of the two of you.
Looking up the best of your ability, you noticed it was a muscular built man wearing a black bat-like suit.
'Oh good one of his accomplices...' you thought dreadfully to yourself, but you couldn't have been more wrong.
The attacker dropped his knife on the sidewalk as he let go of you, backing away slowly "I wasn't gonna hurt them!" He plead.
Suddenly the large man lunged, managing to tie up the stranger to leave them on the sidewalk as he soon turned his attention back to you.
You couldn't help but stair, frozen as you laid on the ground.
"Are you hurt?" The man asked, you shook your head gently. He reached out one of his gloved hands, pulling you off of the ground.
"W-Who are you...?" You asked with a stunned tone.
"Vengeance." He answered simply, and with a blind of the eye he seemingly vanished, as if he were nothing but a figment of your imagination.
Dusting the dirt off your clothes, the only option left was to make your way home, quickly. The entire walk to your small apartment, the silence of the night was filled with your curious wonders about this mysterious man, who was he? Or better yet what was he? It seemed almost inhuman how quickly he made his escape. Why, of all people, did he help you? Your mind wondered but you failed to find answers.
