Something More

A/N: I didn't get to proofread this yet so beware! I wanted to get this out since I've been busy the past few days. Luckily my schedule should be clearing up soon so I can work more on these and my other projects.

Riddler: Everyone knew that the Riddler was a smart man, so it was no surprise that he quickly put two and two together about his feelings towards you. You showed him the attention he so craved and simply just understood him on a level that few, if anyone ever, could. How could he not fall head over heels for you? And head over heels he was as it was nearly impossible for this man to hide his growing love, especially once he came to realize said feelings. Everyone in Arkham could tell just by the way he talked about you in your absence or how his eyes sparkled at the mere mention of your name. This would lead to a bunch of different reactions with some patients trying to help Edward in his romantic endeavors while others (*cough* Joker *cough*) would poke fun at the Riddler or even bring you up as a way to push his buttons. Edward is very defensive of your name and would tolerate no disrespect towards you from any of his colleagues. No doubt he's already planning out the perfect way to confess his feelings to you. He just has to get out of Arkham first.

--------

"No. No. No!" Edward repeated like a chant under his breath while ruthlessly scribbling out another escape plan that failed to meet the Riddler's high standards. This escape had to be perfect- flawless even! Not just because it was a plan from the Riddler, but because he planned to visit you the moment, he was free. That brought up a new dilemma. If he wanted to spend time with you uninterrupted, something he would kill for in the moment, he would need to take care of the Batman. Distract the bat long enough for you two to catch up without a piece of glass separating you both. And maybe- just maybe- Edward could end the night with a confession? Only time would tell. But first he had to come up a good enough plan for all of this to come to fruition! Edward let out another huff as his brain once again froze, a stress headache surely incoming. In an attempt to relieve some of that tension, and possibly get the creative juices flowing, he started to draw simple shapes, symbols, words, and phrases on the side of his notebook page. Most of it was on brand: little question marks and simple riddles that brought up good memories. This slowly started to change, however, when his mind once again drifted to you. Soon enough, all those little symbols were replaced with mini sketches of you and all of his riddles suddenly had the same, cheesy answer to them. Yes, he realized what he was doing and that he was down bad. Did he care? Not one bit. Why should he hide his love for the only other person in this world on the same level as him? He let out a longing sigh while staring at one sketch in particular.
Then it hit him. An idea, one that couldn't possibly fail, popped into his head. One that brought a grin to his features and a warmth to his chest as he turned to write this new flow of ideas down before they ceased to be.

Scarecrow: Jonathan isn't the best at handling new emotions, which puts a huge strain on your relationship when he starts to feel more... intensely towards you. His first reaction would be to shut you out until he can understand what exactly he's feelings. In this time frame, expect Crane to return to his cold and somewhat harsh nature (very reminiscent of when you first started working together). Of course, it hurts him just as much, especially when he got so used to your company while he worked, but it was the only way he could really take a step back and come to terms with all of this. To be honest, this man would need to be told by an outside source that what he was experiencing was a crush. At first, he would brush off the explanation. A crush? What was he, a schoolboy? This had to be a joke. But it wasn't, and the growing intensity of his feelings paired with his increasing loneliness after shutting you out would lead to him begrudgingly accepting that he, the oh so grand Master of Fear, had a crush on one of his few friends. Once he has all that settled, he quickly tries to amend your friendship, which was easier than he first thought since you were more than used to Jonathan's odd behavior by now. After that, he tries his best to grow closer to you, mostly by hanging out with you outside of work purposes. He would nervously invite you over to discuss a book you two have been reading or to join him at a local cafe to just enjoy each other's company. All in all, it's pretty clear that the Scarecrow has a soft spot for you, but don't ever bring it up to him. He may have come to terms with his feelings, but he is far from ready to confess them. Might just insinuate that your crazy or making up false signals.

--------

Jonathan absolutely adored your voice, especially when you were rambling on about something you were passionate about. Luckily for him, you happened to be really invested in the latest book you both decided to read, talking on about one of your favorite plot points. Jonathan couldn't help but smile and nod along, falling into a sort of trance while listening. He was content with the evening staying this way, but it was only a matter of time until you picked up on his vacant stare and uncharacteristically soft smile.

"Jon? Earth to Jonathan?" You repeated while snapping your fingers close to his face. He blinked a few times, eyes widening as he finally realized what he was doing. He felt his face heat up and prayed you wouldn't take notice of it.

"Hm?" Was all he could make out until you let out a soft laugh.

"Am I that boring?" You joked. Jonathan, ironically enough, proceeded to panic, trying to find a justification for his previous action.

"No! Of course, you aren't. I- uh-" He trailed off, trying to choose his words carefully. In the meantime, you were taken aback. It was quite the uncommon sight to see Jon, the self-proclaimed 'God of Terror', so nervous.

"I like... the sound of your voice?" He phrased more as a question than anything, unsure of how you would react to the confession. Would you think he was weird? Did that sound weird? He quickly added on what exactly he liked about your voice in an attempt to sound less creepy, the extra talking only increasing his anxiety about the topic. You observed the professor with wide eyes, silently taking in his scrambled explanation until he eventually fell quiet, mentally scolding himself on messing everything up. He fully expected you to just up and leave at that point.

"Wow. I never considered my voice to be soothing, but I'm happy to know you do." You admitted in a hushed tone, smiling when you met Jonathan's curious gaze.

"If anything, I find your voice to be way more calming than mine!" You continued on, turning his compliment back onto him, going on about all the things you liked about his own voice like how much passion he put into speaking and his adorable accent! God. You would be the death of him.

Mad Hatter: Jervis is another who is rather on the nose about his whole crush. He's the type of person to fall hard for another, borderline obsessive in a way. While Jervis only initially viewed you as a good friend, his heart was quick to latch onto you as something far more. One day he just woke up and viewed you in a new light, picking up on all the little details he would soon come to adore with all his being. Have you always looked so cute in your (favorite color) apron? How has he not noticed this before?!
Jervis does have a few reservations about these new feelings, mostly due to his insecurities. Not only did he mess up big time with Alice, but he was unsure if you would want to date a criminal like himself. Maybe you wouldn't mind, and he could take you out for a night on the town (this time without the whole hypnotizing people to look more important than he is)? Or maybe you would reject his advances just like Alice and he would be left all alone again. To say he was conflicted would be an understatement. Oh, how he wanted to proclaim his undying love for you already, but those nagging thoughts would always push him to bite his tongue last minute.

--------

Jervis finally worked up the nerve to come out of hiding after a month or so, tagging along as you ran a few errands outside of the cafe. Of course, he couldn't wear his Mad Hatter git up, even going as far as hiding his identity with beanies and such (he was not too happy with the choice in fashion but that's what you got to deal with when you're hiding from the law and a man in a bat costume). All of his unpleasant feelings towards his attire would vanquish the second you pulled him to a new place, however. Jervis loved to spend any time with you, even if it was just wandering around town completing a to do list. Man practically followed you around like a puppy, a wide grin anytime you addressed him or included him in any way. He would insist to carry things for you and would stumble over his feet to get to a door before you, just to hold it open like the gentleman he is. Really trying his best to make you see him as a nice and sane person instead of the now wanted rogue he is. You found his actions adorable and would always address them with a giggle or a smile and a thank you, earning a flustered response from Jervis. He honestly reminded you of when you two first met all those months ago. This just cemented to you that Jervis was still the same ol' Jervis despite all that's happened.

"Please, allow me, my dear!" Jervis once again extended his hands to carry the newest bag of supplies to add to your growing collection, this one being some new decorations to spice up the cafe and draw in new eyes.

"But you already have so much, Jerv. I don't want you to topple over on the sidewalk." You replied with a hint of concern, only to receive a dismissive sway of the hand from Jervis.

"You underestimate me, (Y/n)." Jervis replied with a cocky grin before extending his free hand once more.

"If you say so. That's the last thing on our list anyway." You shrugged, giving him the bag and moving to leave the store and holding the door open for Jervis this time, prompting him to playfully pout in response.

"Thank you, my dear." Jervis eventually said with a smile after getting over his minor disappointment at you beating him to the punch. You just rolled your eyes and followed after him, starting up a conversation about some new ideas you had for the business, taking into account his suggestions.

Penguin: Considering his last relationship and how that ended, yeah, he's not pleased with this revelation. Not to say he doesn't trust you; he really wants to. You have never shown to have a single bad bone in your body and, if he was being honest, you were nothing like Veronica. Even so, that didn't stop his anxieties from getting the best of him. How could someone like you love someone like him? There was no way. It was simply impossible. Best not to get his hopes up. Maybe if he waited long enough, these feelings would just vanish, and he could act as if they never existed in the first place. But, as you may have guessed already, they don't.

--------

"Aren't they just adorable?"

"Heh. They sure are." Penguin replied rather distantly as you gawked over the many different birds in the large aviary. You once again pulled Oswald from his lonely office to join you in some fun, this time dragging him to the Gotham Zoo instead of the dancefloor. Now, Oswald enjoyed the Gotham Zoo well enough. It was one of his favorite places in this disaster of a city, but he for the life of him couldn't focus on anything but your excitement at every creature there. You knew so much about each species, boosting facts that most people wouldn't find useful to hold on to. But you did and Oswald couldn't help but find that just so sweet, so alluring. Something he shouldn't be feeling, he would repeat to himself. You only saw him as a friend after all. A powerful crime boss that happened to look after you in a way. Just like all the others he ever let in. It stung to think that way, but there was no point in getting his hopes up just to have his heart shattered again.

"Hey. Are you okay, Oz?" You suddenly asked in a soft, sincere voice, your eyes filled with nothing but concern for your friend. "Is the crowd too much? I get like that sometimes. We can go sit on a bench if you want-"

"No, I'm fine (Y/n). Just thinking about work again." Oswald lied, not wanting to bother you about the subject. It would only make things more difficult on the both of you. You paused before standing up and placing your hands on your hips like a disapproving mother.

"Didn't I bring you here to free your mind from work?" You scolded, earning a half-hearted laugh from Oz.

"I guess I need to try a little harder, eh?"

"You better! Or else I'll keep dragging you around town until you finally get to relax! And that's a promise Oz!"

Two-Face: Two Face is another that would be hesitant due to past relationships. First off, you have his disastrous relationship with Poison Ivy, and next you have his failed relationship with his fiancé due to his "new look". While Harvey was once a lady's man, he no longer saw himself as such and feared that you would either push him away or use him for your own gain. Not to mention your relationship, for the most part, was mostly transactional. You would show up and fix his outfits, maybe stay for a few hours to talk or have a drink. That was it.
That is until Two Face decided to start finding other reasons for you to hang around, always having an excuse no matter how dumb. Every other day he would flip a coin to decide whether or not to call you up or leave you be. Might also flip on what excuse to use since Harvey and 'Big Bad' Harv can rarely if ever decide on what sounds the most believable.

--------

(Quick A/N: I'm gonna use Italics for "Big Bad Harv's" voice so there can be more distinction outside repeating how it's deeper or gruffier than Harvey's normal voice)

"So, what do you think Harvey?" You asked while giving another small spin to show off the newest outfit you made, this one with left over fabrics you had from the last tux you created for Two Face. This meant the whole thing was a perfect mix of black and white, a very geometric look to the whole piece. You tailored it to fit your frame since it made the process so much easier. Plus, now you two could match! Isn't that just neat?

"Harvey? Harv?" You repeated, addressing both personalities to get any semblance of a response. Two Face just stood there with wide eyes, taking in the outfit before seeming to break whatever trance he was trapped in. You were worried you had done something to offend him, until a smirk appeared on his face.

"You really know how to make suits fit just right, doll." Harv commented with a chuckle before Harvey seemed to snap back, the smallest hint of a blush to his features. One thing both Harvey and Harv could agree on was that you looked stunning in a suit, especially one that resembled theirs. All the anxieties you were clinging to vanished into thin air as you let out a relieved sigh, giving one last look at yourself in the mirror, fixing your collar in the process.

Harley Quinn: Very conflicted. Practically devastated. What would Mr. J think about this? Wait, why should she care about what that clown thinks? They were on a break after all. But what if he gets jealous or-
Yeah, she's high key panicking. It would take her a while to fully understand that she was developing a crush on you, mostly through sheer denial and avoidance of the topic. Too bad that can only work for so long. She goes back and forth between worrying about what the Joker would think to not caring about his opinion and focusing on herself for once. It was mentally taxing, but thankfully she had you to comfort her, even if she refused to tell you what she was stressing over for obvious reasons.

--------

"Harley! I'm back- woah!" Harley spun around from her spot on your couch to see you enter the apartment, Bud and Lou circling your feet and trying to get your attention by jumping up, nearly tripping you in the process. How Harley managed to convince you to let the hyenas live here too was still a mystery. Maybe she was just too cute to deny? Just ask Poison Ivy; Quinn's puppy dog eyes are killer. You placed the grocery bags on the counter before turning your attention to the two hyenas, quickly giving them attention before rummaging through the bags.

"Sorry it took so long. I misplaced my card and nearly had a heart attack-" You rambled on, trying to make conversation while throwing Bud and Lou a few new dog toys you bought from the store, which would only last a week before needing to be replaced. Harley simply observed as you moved around, putting everything into place while holding the one-way conversation with a smile, talking to her with so much interest about something so mundane. And yet, Harley couldn't draw her attention away from you. There was just something about you that drew her in. Was it the security? The safe feeling you always brought with you, like a glow of warmth that could melt even the coldest heart. Who's to say. All Quinn knew was she had it bad for two people, both complete opposites who've (thankfully) never crossed paths before. What was she to do?

"Oh! I almost forgot. I picked this up for you!" Your voice broke Harley from her thoughts, pulling her attention back to you. You had a slight skip in your step as you moved towards Quinn holding a tub of Cotton candy ice cream.

"A little treat to cheer you up! I don't know what exactly you've been upset about lately- which is fine! You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. But I thought something sweet might lift your spirits?" You said with a nervous wave in your voice, holding out the tub for Harley to observe. She mentioned always wanting to try the flavor but never getting to in the past, a comment Harley was surprised you remembered. She let out a few giggles before swiping the tub from your hands.

"You sure know how to make a girl's day!" Harley joked before digging in, reveling in the sweet taste while you smiled at your minor success to cheer up your roommate.

Poison Ivy: Pamela never expected to truly care for someone on such an intense level, but here she is now. She is too good at hiding her growing infatuation with you, however. She's a master at maintaining her cool on the outside, but oh boy is she a flirt when it comes to you. To be fair, she's always been a bit of a flirt. It's just how she is, especially when she's trying to get something which is literally how you two met. If your observant enough, you can pick up on the differences between then and now, though. She takes almost any opportunity to throw some kind of compliment or pet name your way and is overall more personal with them. Still, you won't know her true feelings until she confesses them, which she plans to do in due time.

--------

"Watch your step." Pamela warned in a hushed tone as you two crept past the security system, finding your way deeper into the store. Pamela claimed that if you were going to stick with her, you had to learn a thing or two about getting around the law. That led to where you are now, robbing a mechanics store for parts for a new scheme Poison Ivy was cooking up. She had yet to fill you in on all the details, but she assured you that, if you were ready by then, you would play a part in it. Pamela managed to pick the lock to the security room and kiss the guard in the room, placing him safely under her spell. You were quick to move to the computer in the room and take care of any camera footage that had managed to catch you two in your little crime. Meanwhile, Ivy had the guard take what she needed to her car, which was hidden outside. Once you two had taken care of any evidence left behind and ordered the guard to go home early for the night, you were off, riding back to Ivy's hideout with no complications. Your heart was racing from the crime, despite how simple the whole thing was. That seemed easy. Too easy.

"Not bad for a first night, huh?" Pamela asks with a smirk, a clear hint of pride in her voice.

"Yeah. There was barely a struggle or anything." You commented, still anxious about the whole thing, as if you expected the cops or worse yet the Bat to appear out of nowhere. Pamela let her smirk drop for a second.

"Without Batman, this city is helpless. We're lucky he's probably busy with some other criminal." She dragged on, a clear tone of underlying disgust present. All of that seemed to disappear though as her eyes met your own.

"Don't think too much on it, kid. Just know you did good." She says with a wink before turning her gaze back to the barren road before her, leaving you giddy at the sudden praise. Maybe this life of crime wasn't so bad after all?
