Prologue 2: ...and the birth of a super soldier hero. (Opening)

Gotham City Hospital

The heart rate monitor is beeping as Barbara is laying down on the hospital bed, unconscious. Her father is sitting down on a chair next to the bed, all upset and angry. Batman and Robin are also with him. They're both at the wall, leaning against it. Robin is upset too, as Batman looks with a narrow and frown look. The doctor checks her legs. He pokes her foot, but doesn't get respond of it. He pokes it a couple more times, and the feet doesn't react to it.  The doctor frowns sadly at this, and covers her feet with the blanket.

Doctor: She'll never walk again. I'm sorry, Commissioner.

The doctor leaves the room. Gordon is shocked to hear this. His beloved daughter is completely paralyzed. She'll never walk on her legs ever again. He bends to the bed, holding his daughter's hand. Batman frowns deeply as he looks at a card that was found on Barbara. One of Joker's cards.

Robin: How did this happen? Does anyone know how it happen?

Police officer: Her friend, Colleen Miles. She said she was on her way to see Barbara. But then, she said as she was about to come in the apartment building, she heard gunshots.

Batman: Gunshots?

Police officer: Yeah. She panicked, and waited while hiding. Then, she said she saw Joker, Harley Quinn, and their men leaving the building. She came out of hiding, and went to see if her friend was okay. But...she found her in a bad state.

Batman: What was in the scene?

Police officer: One of Joker's men was shot dead, but there was another victim with Miss Gordon. The owner of the apartment room. Issac Bishop, her boyfriend.

Robin: What's his condition?

Police officer: Last I heard from the doctors, they're still listing him as critical. His family were called, and they're on their way here now. His mother is going out of her mind.

Batman: How bad is he?

Police officer: (Sighs) He was shot several times in the chest, stomach, and in the legs. His right arm was shot off. And he was shot in the throat.

Batman frowns more. Joker really gone too far this time. Just then, they all hear moaning. They all look at Barbara and see she's waking up.

Gordon: Barbara.

Barbara: Daddy...?

Gordon: I'm here, honey. So is Batman and Robin.

Barbara: Batman?

Batman: (Walks to the bed, and kneels down to her level) I'm here, Barbara.

Barbara: What happened..? How did I...

Her eyes widen as she remembers everything that happened. Joker, the bullet, and Issac.

Barbara: Oh, my gosh! Issac!

Batman: Barbara, calm down.

Barbara: No, no! Daddy, where's Issac?! Is he okay?!

Gordon: I don't know yet, Barbara. We haven't got a word yet.

In a operation room, doctors and nurses are tending to Issac, trying to revive him. In Issac's mind, he's having flashbacks in his head. His first flashback is of his little brother watching a cop show. The cop takes down a bad guy with his gun. He spins it with his finger, and puts it away.

Brother: Wow! Can you do that, Issac?

His next flashback is of him and his little sister. She runs to him with a big smile, and hugs him tight. He hugs her back. Then, the next flashback is his parents. He shows them the paper of his Marine status. They both smile, and hug him. And then, the next flashback is of him and Barbara. Barbara gets up from her bed, and walks to him.

Barbara: I really have to tell you something. (Smiles at him) I love you.

He touches her cheek, and she kisses him on the lips. The nurses decide to use electric pads on Issac. They shock him twice. But as they shock him, he starts seeing Joker's men and Harley shooting at him with their guns. He can hear himself screaming in agony. And as the nurses do one more shock on him, his last image is seeing Joker shooting him, and everything goes black. The nurse checks him.

Nurse: (Sighs sadly) Still no pulse.

Doctor: (Sighs) That's it. That's all we can do for him now. Let's call it. Time of death, 11:48 pm.

The next day, the funeral for Issac begins. Everyone is there, including Bruce Wayne, Tim Blake, Dick Grayson, and Bruce's butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Issac's picture is by his coffin, and an American flag is on his coffin too. Issac's best friend and teammates are there too. Barbara is on a wheelchair, while crying. Issac's family are crying too.

Man: And so, it is time to say farewell to Gunnery Sergeant Issac Gordon Bishop. A man I had the privilege and honor to have under my command. A life is only important in proportion to its impact on the lives of others. By this standard, Gunnery Sergeant Bishop ranks among one of our very best. He leaves behind family, friends, fellow Marines, lover, and a grateful nation.

Issac's father gets up from his chair, and walks to the coffin. He pats on it, and pays his respects. The soldier then takes the flag off the coffin, folds it, and gives it to Barbara. She still cries, and she's still wearing the engagement ring. She made a promise to never be with someone else. She will stay loyal to Issac for the rest of her life. She wheels to the coffin, and pats it too.

Barbara: (Sniffs) I'll never forget you, Issac. I'll always love you.

A few days later

It is a quiet night in the graveyard. Issac's tombstone is by his grave, and dirt is being thrown on it. Scene shows a man digging up Issac's grave. And after digging for a few minutes, he reaches the coffin, and opens it. Inside is Issac's body. He looks at it, and picks it up. He covers it with a bag, and carries it. Who is this, and what does he want with the body?
