Gotham Characters React to You Coming Back To Life (HCs)

((A/N)): FINALLY SOME GENDER NEUTRAL CONTENT. I cannot for the LIFE of me write a high-quality, detailed oneshot with a male reader; I don't have the experience to do so, as a girl. So I'm proud of myself for working it in here. The transition isn't as clean as I'd like it to be, but... I'm really trying to be all-inclusive, I'm working on it :/

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jim Gordon:

-Poor Jim is so confused.

-It took him awhile, and he's probably with Lee at this point, but he's "moved on". Relatively.

-He's probably at the GCPD with Harvey when his old partner looks over his shoulder with wide eyes and says simply, shocked: "Jim, that's Y/N".

-You're also confused, after being dead one minute, and alive the next.

-You're at the GCPD because that's where your instinct takes you, where you know someone important to you, who cares about you, will offer you help.

-You don't recognize him at first, but Jim eases you back to your senses, and you remember everything soon.

-It's a traumatic process that requires lots of time to heal, and though Jim is busy, he never lets you out of his sight again, and will drop anything to comfort/help you, Lee, too.

Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin:

-Your death hit Oswald hard, but he's so used to losing people and seeing death pretty much everywhere, and no loss has ever hurt worse than his mother, so he moves on fairly fast, though he always pays his respects whenever someone mentions you.

-"... and Y/N, God rest his/her soul, ..."

-He's a little more guarded around Sofia because of you.

-However desensitized he was to your death, he's absolutely SHOCKED when he sees you walking around the city.

-At first, he thinks he's hallucinating. You do look a little different.  And then you show up at the Iceberg Lounge, looking for him, and he knows it's you.

-He pulls you into a hug, clinging to you like he's going to lose you again.

-You've always been his support, and he knows he can depend upon you to back him.

-He trusts you. And he trusts that you'll take better care of yourself, and never throw yourself in the line of danger for him ever again.

-"You...", he says, clutching you by your shoulders and looking up at you seriously, "... are far too important to me, my dear".

~

Edward Nygma/Riddler:

-You probably end up noticing him first, actually.

-I'm thinking this probably takes place around S4, when pretty much everyone came back to life.

-You've been at Cherry's since you came back, laying low and trying to find a safe way to slip back into your old life.

-Ed's too busy trying to "get smart" again (Ed, you were always a dummie) to actually take note of his surroundings.

-When he does find out, it's probably through Grundy, who you befriend when he's not in the ring beating the shit out of people.

-Ed thinks he's kidding, and doesn't believe him until he actually sees you with his own eyes.

-Once he finally meets up with you again, he's really awkward. He doesn't know what questions are inappropriate to ask you, doesn't know how you came back or if you've changed.

-He's a little wary of you, too, just because of that. He'll probably test you with some riddles just to see if you're really you, because you always knew the answers to them.

-When you get them right, he's relieved to see you, and welcomes you back into his circle of trust with open arms.

~

Jerome Valeska:

-This probably takes place during the concert crash, when Jerome is demanding his brother and Bruce be brought to him.

-He's already heard that you're alive, ever since breaking out of Arkham, as news spreads quickly in Gotham. He's not sure if it's true, though, so he demands you, too.

-He's hopeful but scared at the same time, because he doesn't know what he'll do if it turns out that the rumors aren't true.

-The GCPD gets hella confused, and they think he's even crazier, because as far as they know, you're still confirmed deceased. They pull up your death record and everything just to make sure.

-They honestly think it's just a case of him missing you so much, he thinks you're still alive; a deranged way of coping for a deranged mind.

-Meanwhile, you're chilling at your old apartment, all dusty and shit from being abandoned. You're watching all of this go down on the TV, watching Jerome's downward spiral, but you have a theory that if you go back to him, he'll only get worse.

-You only decide to reveal yourself when you swear you think he's crying. The cameras can't see it, and he's laughing and cracking jokes as usual, but you know his ticks and mannerisms well enough.

-You manage to see him one last time before he falls off the roof. It hurts, but you don't shed tears or lose sleep over it. You know it's probably for the best, but you pay your respects and say goodbye before his body is taken away.

ALTERNATIVELY:

-You never reveal yourself. You let the police think you're still dead, and Jerome never finds out if you're alive or not.

-He dies hopeful, still, though.

-He never sees you again, but you manage to get a moment alone with his body before it's taken away.

~

Bruce Wayne:

-It's probably hella late, pouring down rain, when you stumble towards the doors of Wayne Manor and knock feebly.

-Alfred answers the door, and is absolutely shocked to see you, alive and drenched, after watching you die himself.

-Bruce is probably hungover and goes downstairs to see what Alfred's deal is, but when he sees you, he sobers up real quick.

-Of course, he's not completely out from under the influence, so he tears up when he runs to you, pushing some wet hair out of the way to see your face clearer, to see if it's really you.

-He hugs you and buries his face in your shoulder, crying and relieved.

-Over the next few days, he worries that you might not be the same, that you might not even be the real you, after his experience with his clone.

-He doesn't go out to party or get drunk anymore, which relieves Alfred, but the alternative, sitting in his father's study occupied with you 24/7, isn't healthy, either.

-He realizes it's really you by your mannerisms. His clone hadn't ever gotten his own mannerisms down, but you still twist your necklace, randomly take his hand and squeeze it, etc. It feels like you.

-You're confused when out of nowhere, when he comes to this realization, he attacks you in another hug, but you smile and hug him back, because you know how worried he's been and how much he's missed you.

~

Barbara Kean:

-Barbara's running her little club with Selina and Tabitha when you just waltz in, all dressed up, ready for a night on the town.

-You honestly had no intention of meeting her that night, but you're not object to it when it happens.

-Honestly, Barbara has always been run and acts by her emotions, whatever they are. She was shocked and hurt and emotional when you died right in front of her, was super agitated during the aftermath; probably killed anyone who ever mentioned your name in her presence, or tried to use you against her.

-But she doesn't really know how to feel when she sees you that night. She thinks it might've been close to shock, but she couldn't place the feeling specifically.

-She kinda dances around approaching you, because she's remembering how emotional she was when you died, and how emotional she'll probably be when talking to you again.

-She manages to find you alone outside, getting some air, and that's when she whispers your name.

-She does, indeed, break down. She cries. You hold her and comfort her, assure her that you're really there.

-When she pulls herself together, she threatens to kill you if anyone finds out about what happened between you that night. Probably does it while still hiccupping and wiping away tears, too.

-"I swear- *sniffle* if anyone ever *sniffle* hears about this * I- *sniffle* I'm going to kill you. Again".

-Then proceeds to start sobbing again.

-You only laugh and hold her, and you both realize how good it is to be back with your best friend again, something that you'd definitely taken advantage of before, but never again.

~

Victor Zsasz:

-Victor is, also, desensitized to death, be it people close to him or just a stranger. Your death isn't a big deal to him.

-He does miss you, though.

-You were the kind of friends who would go out and get milkshakes together, compare your arsenal of weaponry, tally kill counts... you'd find jobs for him, he'd come back and split the share.

-Basically, partners in crime.

-He also mentored you, kind of. Taught you self-defense, taught you all the places in the human body to hit to kill, sniper angles, etc.

-So because he's so nonchalant about your death, he's also not overtly emotional when you come back.

-Then again, neither are you.

-You shake hands, and he'll either kiss yours, ever chivalrous, or he'll teasingly ruffle your hair, back to your old kicks again.

-"It's good to have you back, kid. Long time no see".

~

Tabitha Galavan:

-Tabitha is used to death and killing, but your death hit her harder than she'd ever admit.

-People around her, like Theo or Barbara, would note that she got more aggressive with her kills, though she didn't really have the same passion for it. She did the job, brutally, and got up and left. Also, she spent more time alone, grew quieter, etc.

-Anytime anyone ever mentioned you, she'd leave. Plain and simple. If she ever heard your name, she'd stand up and walk away without saying anything.

-Theo and Barbara in turn tried to get her to move on, but she wouldn't and couldn't.

-You're probably brought back by Theo himself because he got tired of his sister moping around over you.

-Tabitha walks into the apartment one evening and is shocked to find you drinking tea on the sofa with her brother.

-"Tabby, we have a visitor".

-Without caring that her brother is watching, she grabs you into a hug, managing to keep a straight face even though on the inside, she's relieved and happy, so happy, to have you, safe, in her arms.

-"Don't you ever do anything like that ever again. Don't ever leave me alone again".

~

Selina Kyle:

-You and Selina have the same relationship that all the street kids have with each other, e.g. her and Ivy Pepper, her and Bridgit Pike, etc.

-Except, she's a little closer to you because she's known you the longest.

-You were the only person she trusted for the longest time. Trusted enough to share a space with, share food with, pickpocket with... trust in general.

-When she started getting involved with Bruce Wayne, you got kind of jealous. It had always been you and her against the world for the longest time. And now this spoiled rich kid was taking her away from you.

-The last time she saw you was the argument you had over it. She regretted it forever, and still did even when you came back.

-She stopped hanging around Bruce as much, knowing that that was the reason you had been upset with her in the first place. She didn't completely abandon him, he was still her friend, but she spent more time on the streets, returning over and over again to your old haunts.

-She finds out you're alive when she crawls back to her shelter on the streets and finds you there. It's the only place you'd ever called home and the first place you'd thought of when you came back.

-She keeps a straight face, but her lip trembles and her eyes get wet. A few tears spill, but that's it. You know how hard it is for her to be this vulnerable, and you don't mind. You're just happy to be back with your closest friend.

-She introduces you to Bruce, and after you get to know him, you start resenting him less, especially when he, also, starts making an effort to include you.

-You end up learning from him just how much you meant to Selina and how hard your death hit her. You also realize that he probably knows all of this because he cares so much about her.

-That night, you hug her, what seems to her out of nowhere. You tell her how much she means to you, and how you'll never leave her again. Neither of you are going anywhere.

~

Jeremiah Valeska (Pre-Spray):

-When you get killed by Jerome for not giving him up, Jeremiah blames himself immensely.

-Ecco feels it, too. She stays strong for both herself and Jeremiah, but she definitely feels your loss.

-He holes himself up in his study for the longest time. Ecco brings him everything he needs. He only leaves to go to the bathroom. He works on mazes, inventions, etc. just to keep his mind off of you.

-He tries not to sleep as much as possible because he has nightmares of you and his brother, and he only blames himself more.

-When you come back, you head straight for his bunker, knowing that that was where he would be, and that was where you would be safe, since you, also, were traumatized by your own brutal killing.

-Ecco saw you first, gave you a real, genuine smile, and let you in, taking you to get changed and refresh yourself before letting you see Jeremiah.

-Boyyy is he an anxious WRECK when he sees you. Asking you every single question that pops into his mind as soon as they do, checking you for injuries, scars, wounds, etc.

-Honey, he's never letting you out of that bunker again.

-He sends Ecco to pack your things and bring them back to you.

-You probably shut him up by kissing his cheek, because he's pure and he'll get flustered by the act.

-Every night, he'll hold you extremely close to him; even though it gets too hot and uncomfortable, you let him, because you know he needs to know that you're back and alright.

~

Post-Spray Jeremiah Valeska:

-Post-Spray Jeremiah is PISSED. But he's good at hiding it.

-Probably takes it out on whoever is around, except for Ecco. Most likely the workers he has digging his tunnel to Wayne Manor.

-No one is to EVER mention your name around him. He doesn't just kill anyone who does... actually, no one knows what happens to those who do. Something terrible, is all they know. The perpetrator is simply never seen again, and Jeremiah has blood on his clothes the rest of the day.

-He goes even crazier, following his own "one bad day" logic. He simply cannot live without you.

-When he finds out you're alive, he hunts you down immediately, and he does it himself, too.

-He carries you back to his hideout, the Church of Jeremiah (or whatever the hell it was called... such a drama queen)

-When you wake up, he scoops you into his arms and spins you around. He's absolutely overjoyed that you're back.

-He's also extremely possessive now. He keeps you near him at all times. You literally might as well have been wearing a leash.

-He's determined to never let anyone touch you ever again, and he tells you so every night, whispering it into your ear as he holds you to him.
