Chapter 10: Enigma Conundrum

This is like a filler but interesting. This and other few chapters will be taking place during the two year timeskip in the Steven Universe story. So why not just skip the time and start at where the Movie takes place?

First, I need some time to plan out the Movie and Future because I did something that completely makes the story mangled. In the words of my friend, Howard, he says, "you fucked up the story by bringing Pink back, but in a good way." So, these fillers will give me time to think and keep you all entertained.

Second, these chapters will be about developing Pink Diamond (and potentially Batman). She, Steven and Greg deserve family time, so expect family bonding time about them. These chapters will be back to back with Batman and Steven until two years have passed (story-wise, not real life).

Once it reaches two years, you'll know what happens. Let's begin!

3rd Person P.O.V.

1 week after Pink Diamond returned to Earth.

Bruce has been in Gotham for at least a week straight without going back to Beach City. He hopes Steven and his mother are spending quality time together. It's important for him since he had just seen his mother for the first time, Lord knows Bruce would do anything to see his mother and/or father.

Tonight, the bat signal was lit. This surprised Bruce, with Arkham City closing over three weeks ago, there's something wrong. It's probably to solve a casefile, or if Jim wanted to check on Batman, not that he would, but it's possible.

He suits up and grapples to the top of the GCPD, where Gordon was there, smoking a cigarette.

(Gordon) Batman? I'm surprised that you came. I'd thought you retired after Arkham City.

(Batman) No. But it's good that you thought of that. That means everyone else won't be expecting me. Which will give me the element of surprise.

(Gordon) Well, not everyone. Someone still thinks you're still here, and they're waiting for you at the church that's in the remains of Arkham City.

(Batman) Arkham City is still there?

(Gordon) Yes and no. The walls are tore down, but completely deserted from the damage of Protocol 10. I'm surpirsed there's still buildings there. And... squad hasn't finished clearing out the corpses Strange had left when he shut down the place. God, the nerve of him. The least he could've done is dispose the bodies instead of leaving them for us to find. The stench would give that side of Gotham a foul odor for God knows how long.

(Batman) What is at the church?

(Gordon) We got some card saying to send you to the church. If we didn't, we'd lose a few of cops and a lot of doctors. Dunno how they knew you're still here, but I'm glad you're here. Otherwise, we'd lose a lot of doctors and cops.

(Batman) I'll check it out.

He jumps off the edge and glides to the church.

At the church

Batman opened the door and heard a familiar voice.

[Speaked] Oh, no, where have they gone? Could it be that while you were absent, I, the Riddler, snuck in and took all those poor, stupid fools?

Edward Nygma.

(Batman) Where have you taken them?

[Speaker] Questions, questions, Dark Knight. It's not you who needs answers here, it's me. You answer my riddles and I tell you where they are. You answer my riddles and they don't die. So, shall we begin?

(Batman) I thought you were dead.

[Speaker] Of course you did. Did you really think I was unaware with Hugo Strange's plan? I knew all along, which is why I was one step ahead. You fear of my intellectual superiority that towers over yours and everyone else. Without me, you would "supposedly" be the smarted Gothamite.

If only he knew.

[Speaker] Now, onward to tonight's festivities.

He cleared his throat.

[Speaker] I'm an instrument whose mysic always comes from the heart. What am I?

He walked to the organ instrument and scanned it with Detective Mode.

[Speaker] Well done. See, you can do it. Solve enough of my carefully constructed conundrums, and I'll tell you where the rest of my hostages are. The first is in the courtroom, I suggest you hurry. He may have been sentenced already. Don't get too comfortable, Dark Knight. All through the remains of Arkham City, deep, deep undercover are people working to ensure that I am informed of the former so-called super criminals. But they're all dead. But there's still some of the fools who worked for them. Right now, one of them is arranging a little welcoming committee for you outside.

He exits the church. Outside are three men. One of them glew green in Batman's cowl sensors, he's an informant for the Riddler.

(Informant) See, I told ya! Batman's here!

(Former Arkham City patient #1) I don't get it? How did you know?

(Former Arkham City patient #2) He's still here? I thought he left.

(Informant) That's not important. Kill him!

(Former Arkham City patient #2) No problem.

Riddler wasn't wrong when he called them fools. Batman quickly dealt with them and saved the informant for last. He grabs his throat and hoisted him up off the ground with one arm.

(Batman) I know you work for Riddler.

(Informant) Please, don't hurt me! I'll you what you want to know!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) It's been a pleasure.

He knocks him out with a punch to the face with his free arm. He goes to the abandoned courthouse. He finds another informant to interrogate and a cop tied to a chair.

Like the last one, Batman holds him off the ground with one arm.

(Batman) Tell me everything about the Riddler.

(Informant) I just do what he says! I'll tell you everything!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Thank you.

He knocks him out with his fist. He untied the cop.

(Eddie Burlow) I didn't want to do it, but he made me. He had my friend. He stuck a knife in his leg. It's all my fault but, he was going to kill him.

(Batman) Where is he?

(Eddie Burlow) He's insane. He told me to get everyone in my squad and the doctors. He said they'd all die if I didn't. I was scared. He kept blaming you.

(Batman) You're safe now.

(Eddie Burlow) He told me to tell you something. He was very, very specific. It's just some numbers: 2-7-5, 3-2-5. I have no idea what they mean.

(Batman) They sound like a radio frequency.

He equips his Cryptographic Sequencer. He moved the analog joysticks to the specific numbers to hear a frequency.

[Cryptographic Sequencer] At last. I suppose I should fulfill my side of the agreement. A riddle for a bat. Can you solve it?

Batman puts his device away.

(Eddie Burlow) Did you figure out what the numbers mean?

(Batman) Yes. It's just one of Riddler's games. He gave you something, right?

(Eddie Burlow) Yeah, it's just a box. I don't know what it does.

(Batman) I'll figure it out. You should head back to the GCPD. You'll be safer there.

He scanned the box with Detective Mode. It appears to be a riddle solving  box that isn't an explosive. He pressed the activate button and a screen emits with a riddle.

"Riddle me this: If you know me, you'll want to share me but if you shate me, I'll be gone. What am I?"

Batman moved the letters to spell the answer.

"S-E-C-R-E-T"

A check mark appeared, meaning he was correct. The box spoke.

[Enigma Box] Well done, Dark Knight, you did it. Like a child learning to walk for the first time, I feel I should reward this miracle and give you the location of the poor, soon-to-be dead doctor, who is desperately crying out for help.

He placed the box in his utility belt and contacted Alfred.

(Batman) Riddler's loose. He's taken cops and doctors hostage.

[Cowl Comms] As I recall, he's been incarcerated since you lead the Police to his location from Arkham island. What does he want?

(Batman) Revenge. He's leaving me radio frequencies and he gave mena device to decode his riddles. They lead to map references within the remains of Arkham City. I'll let you know how I get on.

He leaves to go the location.

5 minutes later

He walked inside the place.

[Speaker] So, you decided to finally show up, did you?

(Batman) Let them go, Riddler. They're innocent.

[Speaker] Don't be stupid, Dark Knight. They wouldn't find themselves in the predicament they are currently in if they had tried to think just a few steps ahead now, would they? Now, if you solve the room ahead and four other equally challenging ones, you save them. If you don't, then they die, and we'll see if society crumbles at their passing.

(Batman) You're insane.

[Speaker] No! That would imply either mental illness or derangement. I suffer from neither. Oh, and yes, I can see you, Batman, and I look forward to watching you fail.

He opens the door to see a doctor tied to a chair on a platform that's hanging from the ceiling. The floor is electrified, other than the tile Batman is standing on and the one he needs to get to.

(Adam Hamasaki) Hey, Batman! You've got to help me!

[Speaker] As you can see, this room is incredibly difficult for that small, retarded brain of yours. It would take you merely hours to--

Batman used the Line Launcher to get across the room to the tile without touching the ground.

[Speaker] What?!

The tile rises up to where Batman can use the Line Launcher to reach the guard.

[Speaker] No, that's cheating!

Batman reaches the doctor and unties him.

[Speaker] Don't feel too pleased with yourself, Dark Knight. That room was one of the easy ones.

Batman grabbed a hold of the doctor.

(Batman) Hang on.

He grappled out of the room with the doctor in his arm. They land safely to the other room Batman entered in first.

(Adam Hamasaki) 6-2-5, 9-2-5! 6-2-5, 9-2-5! That's what he told me to tell you. I don't know what it means, but he said he'd kill the others if I didn't tell you exactly what he said. Why doesn't he just tell you exactly what he wants?

(Batman) Because he's insane.

(Adam Hamasaki) You don't say.

Batman used the Cryptographic Sequencer to find the next channel.

[Cryptographic Sequencer] Too soon, Dark Knight. The missing ingredient to finding hostages is secrets and you don't have enough.

He needs to solve his little, minor annoying challenges to make Edward tell him what he wants. In order to find these challenges, he needs to interrogate more of his informants to reveal the whereabouts of these challenges. He already has a few given to him, but it won't be enough to satisfy Nygma.

He goes out to find more informants.

17 minutes later

One informant was vaping on a rooftop. His little session was interrupted when he turns around to see Batman quickly yanking him off the ground with a single arm to perform another one-hand interrogation.

(Batman) Tell me what I want to know about Riddler, or get ready to eat through a straw.

(Informant) This is all I know! Don't hurt me!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Of course not.

He knocks him out with a punch. He tossed the unconscious body to the side, making sure he doesn't fall off the roof. He goes after the next informant.

12 minutes later

He found another one in the alley. He has him against the wall with his hands gripping his collar.

(Batman) Please don't lie to me. I only just got Riddler's last informant's blood off my face.

(Informant) Oh, God, no! I'll tell you everything!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) That's what I wanted to hear.

He headbutts him into unconsciousness. Off to interrogate another one.

7 minutes later

He finds another one at a rooftop. He grabs him with a single arm again.

(Batman) You really don't want to lie to me. Tell me about Riddler.

(Informant) I don't know much! But I'll tell you everything! Don't hurt me!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) If you're lying, I'll come find you.

He knocks him out. He goes to find and solve the challenges they told him.

30 minutes later

Batman solved enough challenges to make the box activate. A voice spoke.

[Enigma Box] So you finally completed enough of my challenges. Was it hard? I hope so, because it is time for a reward. And what's more rewarding than a riddle?

Batman saw a text.

"Riddle me this: The more there is, the less you see. What could I be?"

"D-A-R-K-N-E-S-S"

[Enigma Box] Amazing. You actually solved my riddle. I suppose a reward is due. I'm running a lityle game of chance that you may be interested in playing, here's your invitation.

Batman followed the coordinates. He opens the door to see three curtains.

[Speaker] Roll up, roll up! It's time for my latest game!

Batman saw the curtains lift to see a cop tied to a chair.

[Speaker] All you need to do is keep your eyes on the prize.

There giant mechanical cups cover the cop and two empty correlated spots. Knowing Riddler, it won't be exactly how it seems. He used Detective Mode to see the cop being moved beneath the floor and not following the original cup he was placed in.

The cups were shuffling. They eventually stopped.

[Speaker] Take your pick, Batman.

He points at the one where the cop was held at.

[Speaker] Shall we see if you were right?

The cup lifts to reveal the cop.

[Speaker] What?! No! How did you do that?!

Batman frees the cop.

(Batman) You're safe now, Officer North.

(William North) Thank you. I thought I was going to die back there.

(Batman) Riddler gave you a code, right?

(William North) Yeah. It's 8-6-0, 1-2-0. He said something about it helping you.

(Batman) It will. Get back to the GCPD.

He equiped the Cryptographic Sequencer to find the channel.

[Cryptographic Sequencer] Is someone trying to locate a hostage before they've found enough of my secrets? I hope not.

He needs to find more informants.

[Speaker] There's no way you could have solved that one, Batman. Even I couldn't. You must have cheated! Consider this a warning. From here on it, it gets harder.

He leaves to find the informants.

4 minutes later

He finds the informant eating a banana. He finishes it and tossed the banana peel to the side. He spots Batman and tried to run.

But he slipped on the banana peel he just used to litter on the ground. This is why you throw away your trash, especially banana peels. Batman grabs the informant off the ground with his arm to interrogate.

(Batman) I want answers. What's Riddler planning?

(Informant) No, please! This is all he told me!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Thanks.

He knocked him out. He drops the man and picks up the banana peel to throw away in the nearby trash can.

11 minutes later

He finds the informant trying to hotwire a car. He grabbed his collar and yanked him away from the car so he can hold him up off the ground easier.

(Batman) I'll know if you're lying.

(Informant) I-I'm not! Please! D-Don't hurt me! I'll talk!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Good night.

He slammed his head on the hood of the car, giving him a concussion and knocking him unconscious.

15 minutes later

He finds another one trying to hide from him. He thought he was smart by hiding in a dumpster. This didn't work when Batman found him and pulled him out of there.

(Batman) What do I need to break to make you tell the truth about Riddler?

(Informant) You don't need to do nothin'! I'll talk!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Glad to hear it.

He knocked him out. Now, he needs to complete more challenges.

20 minutes later

[Enigma Box] Well done, Dark Knight. Well done. You have completed enough of my challenges so now all you have to do is solve my riddle and save the day. Can you do it?

"Riddle me this: I have a head, a tail, but never any legs. Do you know what I am?"

"P-E-N-N-Y"

[Enigma Box] Three solved? It seems I underestimated your abilities, but before you start to feel superior, you should try and rescue my next hostage. Bring a towel.

He followed the direction to the next room. He opens the door to see water in fronr of him and a electric gate blocking him from the hostage.

[Speaker] I've done it. This is one puzzle you cannot solve. I've studied your techniques, reviewed your childish gadgets and there is nothing in your arsenal that can help you defeat this room. The hostage will die and I will be victorious.

(Doctor) Can you get me out of here, please?!

She begs as she's in a chair.

(Batman) I need to find a way to save you. I'll be back.

Batman used the Line Launcher to get across the water and onto another platform.

[Speaker] What?! How did you--?! Where did you--?! This is cheating! Do you hear me? Cheating!

He used the REC and a couple of batarangs to open a electric gate that wasn't the one he saw that trapped the doctor. Then he used the Line Launcher again to go through a tunnel of spikes. He lands in a different room that's closer to the doctor.

[Speaker] Are you feeling the pressure?

He used the REC to move a metal box on a platform which unlocked the electrical gate. He freed the doctor and she timidly stands up.

(Batman) You're okay now. He gave you a number.

(Doctor) He did, oh no. What was it?

(Batman) It's important. You need to remember them.

(Doctor) Oh, yes, it was 6-0-6 by 1-2-0.

(Batman) You need to rest here and then make your way to the GCPD if you feel up to it. I need to go after Riddler.

He used the Cryptographic Sequencer to get to the next channel.

[Cryptographic Sequencer] I would claim to be surprised at this attempt to retrieve the location before collecting enough secrets but I am not. It was entirely predictable.

[Speaker] No! You couldn't possibly have done that! How did you... Who helped you? You cheated! I know you cheated! Oh, this isn't over, Dark Knight. Oh, no. Now things get far more difficult. People will die and you will be to blame.

He left to hunt for more informants.

2 minutes later

He finds one alone. He grabs him the same way he did before.

(Batman) Face or legs? Which one do I break first?

(Informant) N-no! Don't hurt me! I'll talk!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Of course you will.

He knocks him out.

9 minutes later

Same scenario but different location.

(Batman) Lie to me if you're done eating solid food.

(Informant) Please, I'll tell you what I know.

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Good.

He was knocked out by Batman.

6 minutes later

You know the drill.

(Batman) Riddler's plans? Tell me or I'll hurt you.

(Informant) I'll tell you what I know! Please, you don't need to hurt me!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) So I see.

He got knocked out.

25 minutes of completing challages for Riddler

[Enigma Box] You actually managed to complete enough challenges, Dark Knight. If you think you can hear me clapping then you are obviously suffering from some sort of delusion for I am doing no such thing. Solve my riddle and find the hostage.

"Riddle me this: I'll be right under your feet, in the midday sun; you cannot lose me mo matter how you run. What am I?"

"S-H-A-D-O-W"

[Enigma Box] What? No... This is not happening. Did you cheat? Of course you did. It's the only way. Well, it ends now. Here's the next location, you won't be able to cheat your way past this problem.

Batman goes to the location. Once he got there, is in a little room with a door in front of him.

[Speaker] What kept you? Did you get lost? Were you scared? Did I finally get to you? Have you accepted that I am the winner here? Have I ground you down, have I made my point? No? Well, this next room will. That, I guarantee.

He opens the door. He finds a doctor dangling over an electrified floor with his wrists tied together and the rope is tied to the ceiling. To make matters worse, while he has to navigate through the floor, giant buzzsaws are moving in matters back and forth on the floor.

[Speaker] What is it? Unsure what to do next? May I suggest lying down on the floor and allowing the roller to do its thing?

Batman used the the Line Launcher once again to reach a part of the room he needs to go. He did this after waiting for the buzzsaws to move. Once the reached there, he saw an electrified gate and a weakened wall.

[Speaker] I cannot begin to fathom the level at which your primitive brain functions. Allow me to give you some help. Give up and die. Now.

Batman sprayed Explosive Gel on the wall to blow it up. Then he activates a switch with a Batarang that opened the gate. He goes through it to see a gap in front of him and a hole big enough for him to use the Line Launcher but it's on the right.

[Speaker] As your look upon my work, youe primitive braun must be struggling to comprehend how I have managed all this. It was easy.

Batman used the Line Launcher to get in the middle of the gap. Whilst in the air, he flips and fires the Line Launcher at where he needed to go. He grabbed the doctor with his free arm and got him to safe.

(Batman) You're safe now.

(Doctor) How the hell did you do that?!

(Batman) Tell me the numbers.

(Doctor) 1-1-5, 7-8-0.

(Batman) You'll be safe here for now. If you get the chance, head over to the GCPD.

He got to the channel with the Cryptographic Sequencer.

[Cryptographic Sequencer] Too soon, Dark Knight. Too soon. Not enough secrets to be awared with the next hostage.

Great, more informants and challenges.

[Speaker] How did you do it? Did you cheat? Of course you did. How could I expect anything more from someone like you?

Batman left to find the informants and challenges

10 minutes later

Batman grabbed one of the informants he found.

(Batman) Riddler. Talk!

(Informant) Oh, crap! Okay, okay, I just help him out!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Thanls for your help.

[Cue knock out punch]

4 minutes later

Again.

(Batman) Don't dare lie to me. I'll know.

(Informant) Please, this is all I know!

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) Thank you.

Knock out punch.

9 minutes later

(Batman) I know you work for Riddler.

(Informant) How? I mean, yes! Please, don't hurt me! I'll tell you everything.

[Informant interrogated. Riddler secrets downloaded.]

(Batman) There was never any doubt in my mind.

He knocked him out.

30 minutes later

The box had another riddle.

" Riddle me this: Hit me hard and I will crack but you'll never stop me from staring back. What am I?"

"M-I-R-R-O-R"

[Enigma Box] How did you do that?! Who helped you?! Tell me! Actually, it doesn't matter. Come and save the final cop. I'll be as shocked if you don't come and save her as she'll be if you do.

He went to save the cop. He opened the door, he views the cop on a platform that shocks her at random, putting her in pain nearly nonstop.

[Speaker] What's good for me and potentially fatal for you, Dark Knight? Don't bother taxing your tiny mind, for the answer is obviously my final puzzle. Will you save the ignorant cop? I'll be shocked if you do. As you can see, Dark Knight, that ignorant cop is CURRENTLY experiencing the SHOCKING sensation of her own mortality. Can you help her without experiencing yours?

Batman goes through a little hallway that the ceiling can crush him, but he managed to get through just fine.

[Speaker] So, you wrapped your brain around that last puzzle and squeezed out a predictable solution. How will you attempt to solve this next riddle?

He threw Batarangs at switches im the pattern to the puzzle to turn off the electrified floor in front of him. Then he uses the REC to turn off the electric gate.

[Speaker] Riddle me this: How can you possibly expect to save that poor, poor cop when it is quite clear that you cannot even out-think the simplest of challenges?

Batman climbed up a latter to reach the upper floor of the puzzle. He sees metal boxes and a weakened wall.

[Speaker] Do you need to call a friend? Why bother, I am sure you don't have any.

He used the REC to move the metal boxes against the weak wall to break it.

[Speaker] A brute force approach to a simple conundrum, Dark Knight. How predictable.

He used the Line Launcher to move across the electrified floor and reached to the cop.

[Speaker] You weren't suppose to do that! That room was impossible. How did you--?! Oh, this isn't over, Dark Knight! You may have defeated me tonight, but I'll be back.

(Anne Bishop) Where is he?

(Batman) I'll deal with Riddler, just tell me tje code.

(Anne Bishop) Code?

(Batman) He gave everyone else a code. Why didn't he give you one?

(Anne Bishop) He sounded like he thought you'd die in bere. I guess he was wrong. Is there anything I can do?

(Batman) No. Get back to the GCPD when you can.

He contacted Oracle.

(Batman) Oracle, we've got a problem. I solved the last Riddler room, but there wasn't a radio frequency.

[Cowl Comms] What's he up to?

(Batman) I don't think he thought I'd defeat his last room.

[Cowl Comms] That's good, right?

(Batman) He's still got hostages. If they're still alive, I need to find them. Search every record about the buildings he's used so far. There may be a connection there.

He went to leave but he heard Eddie speak.

[Speaker] Right. Listen to me carefully, I still have more hostages so... I'll just need a couple of days and I will make a puzzle so taxing you will never solve it! I will. You'll see!

Batman left. Barbara called back shortly after.

[Cowl Comms] I think I've found something that links all the Riddler rooms. It looks like they were all owned by a Mr. Fine. He seems to have acted as a sort of property broker.

(Batman) When was this?

[Cowl Comms] Before Arkham City was built. It's a long shot, I know, but he sold one other property three months ago before Arkham opened. There's no record of who to, but I'm sending you the location now.

(Batman) Thanks, Oracle. I'll check it out.

He hurries to the building. Once he got inside, he snuck in a vent and he heard voices he knows.

(Riddler) That's right, worms, keep walking. You remember how to walk, don't you?

(Aaron Cash) Riddler! When I get out of here, I'm gonna hurt you for this! You hear me?!

(Riddler) Come now, Mr. Cash. In order to hurt me, you would have to break free from the predicament you currently find yourself in and attack me in such a way that does not cause me to press this remote detonatir, distributing yout primitive DNA all over the walls.

(Aaron Cash) I'll do it!

(Riddler) You'll try, I'll give you that, but I doubt you will succeed without blowing yourself up. Oh, and I'm sure I mentioned the remote detonator I have here. One press, Cash, and you ignorant buffoons will be all over the walls.

(Aaron Cash) I can walk all night, Riddler.

(Riddler) Good. Let's see if you still feel the same way tomorrow.

Batman got out of the vent to see multiple people walking on some minecart track. They have football helmets in that have dynamite stuck to it. It's set to explode when they stop moving.

Batman couldn't get in their way. He carefully snuck to the floor where above it is where Riddler is standing on. He breaks through and grabbed his ankles.

(Riddler) What?!

He dragged him down to the floor and punch him, knocking him out. He hits the off switch, freeing everyone.

Later

When Riddler woke up, he saw that he has a football helmet on his head, his own contraption.

(Riddler) This cannot be happening! Do you really expect me to fall for this, Dark Knight? I know you won't kill me.

(Batman) True, but you can't say the same about the others, can you?

(Aaron Cash) Get your ass movin', Riddler!

(Riddler) You can't tell me what to do!

(Aaron Cash) Do I need to press the button?

Riddler had to move now..

(Riddler) What?! No! Oh, you'll pay for this, Batman!

Once he was out of earshot, Cash spoke.

(Aaron Cash) You sure this thing won't work?

(Batman) No, but there's no point in him knowing that, is there?

Batman watched Riddler walk around, thinking he'll die if he stopped. He purposefully got in Riddler's way to trigger a reaction from him.

(Riddler) What are you doing?! Get out of my way!

He lets the Riddler pass by. Once he realizes he's been duped, he'll be locked up.

End of Chapter 10
