Chapter 24

Survivors

Maxine Gibson's Mansion

Bruce grappled around Gotham looking for any non infected survivors. He couldn't find any in the poor parts of Gotham. Everyone was infected with the Joker Virus.

Bruce stayed away from the ground, avoiding the infected. Bruce decided to go to the richer part of Gotham, maybe there were survivors up there.

Bruce kicked down mansion doors, looking for any survivors. He couldn't find any in the first five mansions. Everyone was gone.

In the sixth mansion, there were six infected and three survivors. Bruce didn't recognize two of the survivors but he knew one. The survivor he recognized was Maxine Gibson, Nobel Prize Winner for Technology.

Bruce came up from behind two of infected and bashed their heads together. The three other infected civilians charged Bruce. Bruce threw a Batarang at on infected to slow him down. Then he grabbed the other two infected and smashed their heads into a wall. After Bruce ran towards the infected he hit with the Batarang and knocked him out with a jump kick. There was one infected left. He had Maxine as a hostage. The infected held a gun up to Maxine's head.

"Oh Batsy... How many deaths will you let happen tonight?" The infected asked. Joker was speaking through him.

Bruce got out a smoke pellet and threw it at the infected. The smoke pellet stunned the infected. Bruce grabbed the infected's head and smashed it on the ground.
Bruce looked over to the survivors. "Are you okay?"

"Yes." Maxine replied. "They took somebody Dana Tan, a nurse at the Gotham Hospital."

"I know who she is." Bruce said.

"You're not Terry, you're the original Batman. Where is he?" Maxine asked.

"He's safe." Bruce replied.

"You should know that Dana's important to him. You've got to find her and keep her safe." Maxine commanded.

"I know, I will." Bruce said. "Wait here, I'll send a Batpod to pick you all up."

"Is this guy really who he says he is?" Maxine asked.

"Yes. The Joker's back." Bruce said. "And I need to stop him before people die."

Bruce grabbed the six knocked out infected and tied them up against a pole outside. After he called Barbra.

"Send three Batpods here. I found three survivors." Bruce said. "One of the survivors is Maxine Gibson. How are you doing on the cure?"

"I can't find anything to reverse the effects of the nanites. We could barely figure out a cure for Joker's old gas. Finding out a cure for this may take days or even months." Barbra stated.

"It can't take days I need it now. Joker has Dana. I have to find her." Bruce said.

"Dammit! Joker knows where to strike. He's learned from the past." Barbra said.

"I'll figure out how to beat him. Maxine is a Nobel Prize winning Technician, she could help find a cure bring the survivors there, it's the safest place on the planet." Bruce said.

"Okay Bruce, I'll send the Batpods. Be safe." Barbra said.

Bruce hung up and grappled away. As he grappled away the he heard the Batpods land.
