Funeral for a Friend

Chapter 35

Funeral for a Friend

Manor

Heroes from all over the world showed up at Bruce's funeral. It wasn't only heroes though, ordinary citizens showed up. People who Bruce saved in the past. The funeral was held at the Wayne Manor. Thousands showed up there.

People wanted to pay their respects to the man who showed that a mortal can be more than just a man. Everyone who worked closely with Bruce payed their respects too.

At the funeral, people got flashlights that shined a Bat Symbol in the air. There was never a clear day in Gotham, it was always cloudy. Cloudy days are perfect for occasions like this.

Tim Drake was still sobbing over his wife's death but Bruce's death hit him just as hard, even though they had a fallout. Tim was paid his respects and showed up at the funeral. Dick Grayson had a fallout with Bruce but at the end he was able to makeup with Bruce and also showed up. Terry McGinnis was there to but their fallout wasn't ultimately resolved.

Not many people spoke at the service. If they did, they talked about how either Bruce changed the world or how Bruce saved them in the past. Wonder Woman didn't but tears were running down her eyes the whole funeral.

Superman going to speak though. Tears were coming out of his eyes. Everyone knew his speech would mean something different.

"This is really it, This is really how the Batman died." Superman started off. Tears were already racing down his face. "I never imagined this day coming." More and more tears came out of his eyes. "If Bruce Wayne and I never met, I would still be the hero causing destruction as he tried to save the city. I might have been looked at as an outlaw if it weren't for Bruce. He taught me how to become the hero I am today. 'Save as many lives as you can, don't let anyone die,' I remember him telling me that. Bruce may have not had any powers but he was was just as powerful as me or anyone who will ever join the Justice League. He may have not being as strong as us physically but he was definitely stronger than us mentally. Bruce taught me how to take a beating, he taught me how to stand up to those who are stronger to me. Every live I've saved and ever will save, everyday I live as a hero was and will be because of him." Superman stopped for a minute. It was hard to go on. "In his last days, many of you should know, the Joker was back. And so was his former partner, Jason Todd. Joker was more psychotic than ever before and Jason had turned on Bruce, he hated Bruce. Bruce was able to work through this though. He was able to save Gotham one last time. So everyday Gotham lives from now on, is because of Bruce Wayne, the Batman."

Superman walked off stage. As he walked off stage, everyone turned on their flashlights. Thousands of Bat symbols appeared high in the sky. Every single light was a live Bruce Wayne had saved or touched. This is how it stayed for almost five minutes.

After five minutes though a group of military vehicles drove through the gates guarding the Wayne Manor. Soldiers walked of the military trucks and we armed.

There was a man leading them. His name was Clifford Zmeck. He had led the military since the Darkseid War.

"You take position over there." Zmeck point to the Wayne Manor door. Superman flew up to Zmeck with Wonder Woman behind him.

"What do you thing you're doing?" Superman questioned. "Who sent you?"

"We have permission from the New Jersey Governor to raid this house." Zmeck showed Superman a search warrant. "Now get out of our way."

Superman still stood in front of Zmeck. Heroes of all generations stood behind Superman.

"How about, you get off Wayne Manor." Superman stated.

Zmeck looked behind Superman. "Fine but we'll be back."

"I'm counting on it." Superman stated.

"Men!" Zmeck shouted. "Let's go!"

The military trucks drove off Wayne Manor. After the trucks left, the funeral continued. There were no more speeches though, just silence and sadness.
