Midnight Calls

"So you're telling me-"

Katsuki interrupted himself with his laugh that he couldn't keep in. Izuku giggled at his laughter, laughing harder when he pictured the look on Katsuki's face after he had explain the situation. Katsuki inhaled loudly that it almost sounded like a wheeze, recollecting his words and trying to form them into a sentence, his voice was shaky from keeping himself from bursting into uncontrollable giggles.

"You're telling me that your teacher called Monoma gay? Literally used the word gay?" Katsuki asked, barking out another laugh.

Izuku sunk deeper against the pillows of his bed, his blankets laid out lazily on top of his legs, holding his phone closer to his ear. The sounds of his friend's laughs made him laugh harder. His bedroom door was closed and good thing too, he wouldn't want to wake anyone up from how loud he was being. Katsuki's breathes became ragged, struggling to control himself as he fell against his couch in his living room, earbuds connected to his phone, Izuku's snickers and giggles filling his ears to the point that it was the only thing he heard. Tears watered the corners of his eyes, his hand grasping his shirt hovering over his stomach. It ached from how much he laughed.

"Yes! You should have seen his face, he was so offended!" Izuku managed to say through his giggles, his voice cracky and shaky.

"Damn, I wish I was there! The fuck would the teacher even do that for?" Katsuki replied, his hysterical laughing before slowly easing into gentle chuckles.

"She claimed she meant the other meaning of gay which is happy." The greenette explained, his breathes gradually evening.

"Gay means happy? That's fucking stupid." Katsuki murmured, his heart still racing from the good laugh.

"Yeah. So when I say I'm gay for you think of I'm happy for you instead." Izuku smiled, staring blankly at the blankets covering his lower half, listening for Katsuki's response.

"That sounded gay."

"That sounded happy?"

"That sounded gay as in you're fucking gay!" Katsuki yelled, Izuku could still hear the laughter in his voice.

"Sorry, all I hear is happy. 'You're fucking happy!'" Izuku mimicked Katsuki making his best imitation of him.

"You're so dumb." Katsuki chuckled. Izuku could hear the smirk in his sentence.

"I'm gay for you too, no homo." Katsuki added. Izuku giggled.

They had a weird dynamic. They just had a certain way with each other; whether it'd be playfully flirting or having weird conversations like fetishes that might exist or things they wished they never witnessed before. Katsuki had known Izuku since they were seven and they've been in and out of friendship ever since. And yet, even when they haven't seen or talked in years they always had a blast together. Recently, after a year of not speaking to him out of inconvenience, Midoriya reconnected with Bakugou, it's been almost a month and ever since then, they talked every day when they weren't in school. They'd call for hours on end, their longest call being fifteen hours long. They often pulled all-nighters on the phone just talking like nothing else mattered. Tonight was one of those nights. Izuku glanced at the clock, it read twelve-thirty AM.

"Wow, twelve already? It was like ten just a second ago." Deku murmured, feeling out of breath from the laughing, his chest feeling light, his voice strained.

"It's one for me, nerd." The blonde responded. Izuku could hear movement on his side of the line.

Katsuki had moved to the other side of Japan a year ago. Izuku wished reached out with him sooner and he spent more time with him. He missed talking with him in person, seeing the way his lips curled in a dorky smile when Izuku said something funny or the feeling soft texture of his spikey blonde hair. Midoriya sighed, forcing himself away from his thoughts and back to the person he was on the phone with.

"Heading to bed now?" Izuku asked, he could hear Katsuki rustling and moving around still.

"Nah, just getting something to eat." Katsuki muttered. Izuku perked up, suddenly feeling the pain in his stomach.

"That's actually a good idea, I'm gonna do that to." Izuku said as he reluctantly left the comfort of his bed and excited his room.

"Water sounds good right now too, to be honest." Izuku whispered as he entered the hallway, sparing a glance at his mother's bedroom door.

"No kidding, my throat feels like it's gonna explode." Katsuki laughed a bit. Izuku had to hold in his until he was successfully in the kitchen.

"Already? It's only been four hours." Izuku teased. Katsuki only hummed in amusement.

"We'll see who's laughing when you end up falling asleep first like you always do." The blonde remarked.

"Not tonight, I'm energized. Sleep is for the weak." Izuku cheered in a yell-whisper, grabbing pre-made dumplings his mother had bought him from the fridge and stuffing them into the microwave.

"You say that all the time and yet you still fall asleep." Katsuki countered, Izuku could hear him opening a bag before putting it in his microwave. Deku listened to the way his old microwave screeched. He opened his fridge yet again, grabbing a water bottle.

"Yeah well, I mean it this time." Izuku huffed before taking a sip of his water.

"We'll see about that." Katsuki snickered.

Izuku hummed that sounded more like a hpmh before taking another gulp of his water. He stared at the microwave, waiting until the timer hit one second before opening it, keeping it from waking up his mother. Kacchan heard him, grinning to himself as he chucked down some water before speaking.

"Let me guess, dumplings?" The ash-blonde said. Izuku smiled back, knowing Katsuki had a cocky smile on his face; sure that he was right.

"Always. It's tradition now to eat dumplings at twelve in the morning when I'm in a call with you." Izuku joked, releasing the dumplings from its plastic bag and drizzled soy sauce he got from the pantry on them. Katsuki lightly laughed at his joke. Soon Deku. could hear Katsuki's microwave go off. Something he didn't have to worry about because he was home alone unlike Izuku.

"Ramen?" It was Deku's turn to guess.

"Yep. I'll make it into a tradition too like your dorky ass." Katsuki grinned.

Izuku softly laughed at that, grabbing some chopsticks. He then retreated back to his room with the plate of dumplings in one hand and his water in the other, his phone held in place between his shoulder and cheek. He stifled a yawn, quietly padding past his mother's bedroom, and entered his room, closing the door behind him with his foot. He laid his food on his blankets before scrambling back up the bed. Izuku didn't hear anything from the other line which meant Kacchan was eating. Midoriya noticed Bakugou always muted his mic before eating. Maybe it was because of manners or shyness, Izuku wouldn't know. But for good measure, Izuku would do the same.

"Hey, nerd?" Katsuki spoke after fifteen minutes of eating had passed. Izuku immediately unmuted himself, gulping down his food with water.

"Yeah, Kacchan?" He said with a slight rasp in his voice from swallowing too fast.

"How long do you think it'll take before we get sick of each other?" The blonde asked. Izuku was silent for a moment, confused by the question. Eventually, he laughed it off.

"Oh, Kacchan. I could never get sick of you." The greenette smiled knowing well Katsuki couldn't see it.

"You better not, you moron, otherwise I'll drive back over to kick your ass." Katsuki playfully threatened causing Izuku to slightly chuckle.

Midoriya's laughter faded after a small while, his smile following soon after. There was a silence between them, short and thoughtful. A thought tugged at Deku's mind, nagged his heart. Katsuki noticed the way Izuku's sighed and opened his mouth to speak. Though Izuku beat him to it and spoke first.

"Kacchan, do you think we can visit each other soon?" Izuku asked. Katsuki puffed out a small breath of doubt.

"I don't know, Deku. You know how things are right now."

Both of their lives were hectic, the boys juggled school work and a part-time job which doesn't sound like much on paper but the responsibilities weighed heavy on the their shoulders. Neither of them had time to take a walk let alone visit someone across Japan.

"I know... I just want to hang out with you like we used to." The greenette murmured.

"Maybe one day, Deku. When we're as old as Mr. Aizawa." Katsuki offered a joke. It successfully made Izuku laugh.

"Kacchan! He's not that old."

"Yeah right, he's as old as he is grumpy."

The boys continued to joke and talk for hours. It was seven in the morning when one had passed out on the other. To Midoriya's surprise, it wasn't him. No, this time he was the one to stay awake. Deku listened to the gentle snores Katsuki released. A sense of pride and victory lifted his spirits. He finally stayed up past Katsuki.

With that feeling of winning Izuku whispered a small 'goodnight, Kacchan' before hanging up the phone, excited for when the sun to set again when he could call the blonde and boast about his win today. Then they could talk and stay up and do it all over again.
