Chapter 5: Hawks

"Keep your eyes closed, it'll help with the wind pressure." Hawks told you.

Hawks. The Number 2 Pro Hero.

And here you were... in his arms, getting your ass saved by a Pro Hero already. And you haven't even been in this world for nearly 3 days!

"Or better yet..." Hawks trailed off as he removed his yellow visors from his eyes and placed them upon your face gently.

You slowly opened your eyes; the visors making the unforgiving wind that much more tolerable.

"Thank you." It was the most sincere and innocent 'thank you' that had ever come from your lips.

Hawks had saved many people in his time, but the gratitude coming from you struck a soft spot within him, and he smiled in return.

"Just cover your ears at least. Although - I won't be accelerating to velocities to the point to where you'd need these." He smiled and tapped his index finger to his headphones.

You were practically awe-struck with his relaxing personality. Almost as if he was trying to lighten the mood subconsciously.

"So are you okay? Are you hurt?" The genuine concern laced in the Hero's voice.

You went to shake your head 'no' to his last question, but as you did - you finally noticed the pain upon your throat once again.

As your eyes formed into slits, you freed one hand from Hawks' neck to gently touch your aching skin.

The Hero caught a brief sight of your injury, and furrowed his brows together. "I'll take you to the hospital."

"No, no. Please, not there. I'm okay." You protested. You would be damned if you were put right back in the hospital.

"That doesn't look okay to me, Kid. But if you don't want to go - I won't force you to. At least let me clean it up for ya."

You blinked a few times behind the yellow visor that clung to your face, finally nodding and giving the 'okay' for the Hero to treat your wounds.

His direction then changed with a sudden gust of his powerful wings - causing you to tighten your grip under his arm - and the other around his neck.

You missed the smirk that caressed Hawks' face because you buried yours into the crook of his neck. You were terrified. You weren't in control of this flight, and the panic had settled in as you tried to ignore it the best you could.

And before you knew it, the light squeeze of Hawks' palms on your waist brought you back to reality. You looked up and around - as you were now back on the ground.

You didn't even notice him landing! It was so smooth. You definitely had a lot to learn. Way better than your 'tuck and roll' job earlier.

Hawks then gently let you down, only now - your adrenaline had worn off from earlier - and your legs had finally given in to that jelly-like feeling as you started to collapse under your own weight.

"Woah, there!" Hawks tensed as he reached out to catch you.

"I'm okay." Your voice a little more stern than you anticipated as you regained your balance by catching yourself against the wall of a building in front of you. "I-I'm sorry. I can walk. Just a little worked up is all."

You hated to show weakness. And you dreaded what kind of first impression you were giving off to the bird-like Hero beside you.

Hawks blinked a few times, his black-gloved hands still outstretched for you - just in case.

Satisfied that you could walk, Hawks led you into a skyscraper type of building.

"Welcome to my agency, Miss...."

"Y/N."

Hawks smiled that crooked grin of his. "Y/N." He rolled your name off of his tongue as if tasting a fine wine. "I've always loved that name on someone. And I'm glad to have finally met one."

You popped your head to the side glancing at him with a surprised and yet dumbfounded look. Was that a pick-up line? Nah. He was just being nice...

You tried to ignore the somewhat flirtatious comment by taking in your surroundings.

The inside of the agency was massive. Employees everywhere - either on the phone, filing, or scrambling to get something done.

As you walked beside Hawks, that earned you a few quick glances. Even some leaning over to whisper to one another - thinking that they were inconspicuous.

You suppose you couldn't blame them. Hawks was top news in this world. He was practically a celebrity - as any Pro Hero was. And here you were, casually walking beside him with his yellow visor on your face.

You then avoided any eye contact; keeping your head straight forward as Hawks led the way into an elevator.

Thankfully it was quite roomy - considering his massive wings. But you still gave the man his space; keeping a decent distance in between the two of you.

As the generic elevator music became the only sound within the space, you shifted from heel to heel - clearly uncomfortable.

And every time you looked his way, it always seemed like he was glancing in your direction as well.

"I don't bite." Hawks smirked. "Not unless asked to, of course."

"Is your sense of humor always this dry?" You countered.

"You should see me on a good day."

"This is a 'bad' day for you?"

"Well, yeah... I didn't have my coffee this morning."

You snorted, and Hawks smiled even wider at the fact that he finally got somewhat of a laugh out of you.

"Well I'm sure your girlfriend wouldn't appreciate such comments though." You instantly pierced your lips, thinking that comment of yours was crossing some kind of private boundary. Instead, the Bird-like Hero just chuckled.

"Wouldn't you like to know."

"Know what?"

"If I have a girlfriend." Hawks snickered.

"Honestly, I could care less. But what I do care about is how long it takes for your elevator to get to where we're going." You were trying to change the subject. And fast.

And as if on queue, the elevator emanated a loud 'DING' - allowing the doors to open up to what looked like a small infirmary.

You quickly stepped out with Hawks close behind you.

"Well..." Hawks continued. "I'm sure that your boyfriend wouldn't approve of you tangling with the League."

"Ppfftt. Wouldn't you like to know."

"About the League?" Hawks asked.

"If I have a boyfriend." And this time - you were the one smirking.

Hawks opened his mouth to make his comeback - when he was suddenly interrupted by a tall man in a fine-looking suit. "Sir. Did you need help with anything? I saw that you were in the infirmary."

The Hero's obvious employee then looked over to you and then winked.

You scrunched your nose at the man's gesture. You weren't used to such 'attention'.

"Nah. I'll take it from here, thanks!" Hawks waved the man off as he took his leave.

"Hop on here, Kid." Hawks exclaimed as he pat down on a desk.

You raised your eyebrows as you looked over to an actual hospital cot, and then to the desk he was asking you to sit upon.

"The desk?" You questioned.

"I know. Kinky. So try to contain yourself." Hawks replied. "But I have a better angle of your neck on here than that bed over there. Now - hop to it!"

You paused briefly, but trusted this Pro Hero nonetheless. So you walked over to him, rested your back against the edge of the desk, and went to use your palms to lift yourself up.

Instead, Hawks was quicker than you, and instantly gripped your waist - hoisting you up to sit upon the table.

You weren't expecting that, so you instinctively gripped onto his shoulders for support.

Hawks chuckled - his voice like honey. And those pools of liquid gold stared straight in your vibrant irises. You were hypnotized... you had never been drawn to the Pro Hero Hawks. Not even in your world. But there was something about him that touched your heart.

You wondered if the man before you was feeling something similar, because he was staring just as intently, and captivated as you were.

You shook your head and abruptly retracted your hands from his shoulders.

"Sorry." You mumbled as the unavoidable blush crept to your cheeks.

"You're cute when you're flushed."

"I-I am not flushed!" You stuttered. "I'm just... my neck hurts. That's all."

If Hawks could look any more cocky than he did, you could easily punch him in the gut right now. But you thought better of it and kept your thoughts to yourself. For now.

Hawks wanted to bask in your shyness just a little more before he went to work on your neck, but thought that your injury was more important than his attraction.

He then pulled out a small box with a flame on it. A burn kit from the looks of it.

He took out a tube of what was probably a medicated cream with some application gauze. Hawks then slowly reached up, and before he touched you, he looked into your eyes for the 'okay' to do so.

You understood as you faintly nodded.

The bird-like Hero then removed his visors from your eyes, setting them down beside you. He then gently cupped your chin in between his thumb and index finger; slowly lifting your face so he may get a better view of what he was working with.

What he saw made his blood boil.

The clear imprint of Dabi's hand that had encased your sensitive flesh etched into your skin.

Your skin didn't blister, thankfully. But it was REALLY red. Some parts black and blue - resulting in small splits on those delicate surfaces which had caused a little bit of bleeding.

Hawks was familiar with Dabi's antics, and this was a controlled type of burn. That Villain knew what he was doing. He was going for a slow, painful and scaring type of wound for Y/N.

Hawks sharply exhaled, trying to control the anger that built within him.

He was typically not phased by such acts. Sure, it bothered him to see innocent people being hurt - he was a Hero after all! Of course he cared if others were in danger or injured! But... this was different. And he didn't know why.

"Well... I don't think you'll scar, so that's a good thing." Hawks comforted as he then started to apply the cream.

The injury really hurt, but whatever Hawks was putting on it - soothed it instantly. But what didn't soothe instantly... was the ever creeping blush that invaded your cheeks. The Pro Hero had taken a step closer to you, and to let him have better access to your neck, your legs were slightly parted.

The position that you two were in was definitely a suggestive one, and you couldn't help your body's reactions to such a close magnitude to the attractive man in front of you - as he concentrated on tending to the task at hand.

"Why are you so nervous?" Hawks suddenly asked, his playful tone didn't go unnoticed.

You peered down from your upward craning neck to see Hawks grinning from ear to ear, but still focusing on applying the medicated cream to you.

"I'm not." You protested.

"Then why is your knee bouncing?"

You didn't even notice that you were practically fidgeting.

"Habit."

"Well..." Hawks continued as he put one hand on your knee; firmly gripping it to stop it from moving. "Quit that habit for two seconds while I wrap this up."

He then started to cover the area with telfa - a nonstick dressing that would restrict air flow from the wound so that the pain would be limited, and it would protect the skin.

Hawks then released you as he took a step back to admire his work. "All done. Now be sure to keep that clean, and check it for any infection. If that happens... please go to the hospital."

The plea in his voice was cute to you. He took his work seriously when needed. You began to admire that about him.

"Thank you. Truly." You breathed as he helped you down from the desk.

And without another word, you began to leave. You didn't want to embarrass yourself any more than you have. And your only goal was to get a breather right now.

But you were suddenly stopped in your tracks as something pulled you back from behind.

Hawks had gripped the bottom hem of your shirt and tugged you backward towards him.

"I don't think so, Kid." He objected. "You haven't told me why you were in a confrontation with the League. That's some serious business there. I'd like you to tell me about it."

You let out a low groan in protest as you succumbed to his interrogation.

Hawks didn't know what he was fully doing when he kept you there. He had patrols to do, and he could have just taken you to the police station to make a report. But he was drawn to your company, and his own selfishness took the wheel. His burning curiosity got the better of him. Even though knowing you for technically just a few hours - the beautiful woman in front of him not only stirred a fire within his core, but she was also quite the mystery. Hawks also felt obligated to keep her safe.

He was right about one thing though - the League was serious business. And from the little he witnessed with her encounter with them... they wanted her alive. Because someone like Dabi wouldn't have been hesitating to kill someone.

This was definitely going to be a day. He needed his coffee about now. "So... do you like coffee?"
