Chapter 18: (Part Three) Heroes Gala

Authors Note: I deeply apologize for the super late update! Due to unforeseen circumstances, things got a little busy in the month of October. Which really sucks because I really wanted to write a Halloween chapter. But with Halloween come and gone - I'll be sure to keep up with the upcoming Holidays - as I absolutely LOVE writing bonus Holiday chapters :) I'll also be updating weekly again. So once again - I apologize for the tardiness! So here's a few chapters as a truce ;)

********************

It took every ounce of your being to gain control over your limbs. You felt like jelly at the knees, and you struggled to walk a straight line.

For goodness sake, you only made out with the guy! Nothing else!

But this was Hawks. The Number 2 Pro Hero... that only existed on paper or the television back in your world.

And the way he touched you...

You had never been caressed to the point of wanting to explode right then and there. Your lower abdomen was coiling up with a pleasing pressure that could've erupted if that fiery session lasted even a second longer.

And judging from the way Keigo... Hawks was losing a bit of himself in you... it was as if the both of you were craving this from one another - whether you both knew it or not.

Pent up emotions for each other that just kept building up until released.

You knew that you were falling for him, and you thought that was dangerous. And your gut feeling had you thinking that even Hawks had tried avoiding you... as you tried to with him.

During that month of training you had at UA - he seemed to stay away for reasons. Yes, he was a busy man - but other factors hinted otherwise.

He didn't seem like the type who would let much get in the way of his Hero work... but here he was - making an effort to be in your life. Even knowing little details about yourself that you had never told him before tonight.

For instance - Hawks had to have known that you liked books... he even 'guessed' your favorite flowers...

Had he been keeping a peepful eye on you without your knowing? He did work for the Hero Commission. Therefore, he had more access to certain information - also being trained at such a young age to undergo undercover work and related skills. He was good at what he did.

Hawks observed, analyzed, and gathered intelligence on his 'targets'. So obtaining information on someone like you - would be a piece of cake for him.

You would definitely give him shit for that if that were the case.

But you were flattered nonetheless.

But maybe you were judging the man too harshly. Coming to personal conclusions because of how he presented himself to the public. And not giving his inner and real personality a chance.

You currently only had glimpses of his true identity. Even back in your world, his true nature still had you full of questions.

You opened the door that led back to the Gala - and as you made your way closer to the party, you squinted your eyes at the golden rays of light that illuminated the ceilings.

You stood there for a moment; letting your eyes adjust once again. The crowded room was still filled with elegant gowns and Pro Heroes - and the chatter was a bit more hyped up.

It seemed that most of the attention was now flowing towards the stage, as you could see at least the top 10 Pros being lined up... all except for Hawks.

Speak of the Devil...

"Hey, Sweet Stuff!" Hawks beamed as he appeared beside you. "Is my Song Bird ready to go?"

You tilted your head as you questioned the new nickname. "Song Bird?"

Hawks got that gleam in his eye - as you were now starting to familiarize yourself with his gestures and body language.

He gently took your hand in his bare ones - as he didn't put his gloves back on due to wanting to feel your skin under his.

Hawks gently kissed your hand, the eye contact awakening that coil in your abdomen once again. "I just thought it was... cute."

You fluttered your lashes in bewilderment; the embarrassment creeping to your cheeks for the 100th time tonight - but you shook it off.

You knew Hawks wasn't copping up to something, that much you could tell. You really did begin to understand his body language, and him you.

"Just cute?" You probed. A smile threatening to surface, as the corners of your lips twitched.

"Yeah." Hawks then scratched the back of his neck. Something he did when nervous, or a gesture to take the attention off of whatever he was avoiding.

You squinted your eyes at him - you, probably over analyzing the nickname, but you couldn't help it.

Suddenly, a female announcer echoed from the nearby stage. "Will the Number 2 Pro Hero Hawks please grace the stage?"

Hawks winked at you; giving you that lop-sided grin. "Root for me, Song Bird? Hearing your voice gets me going."

You cocked your head every so slightly... and that's when it hit you...

Your voice, your... moans in the library... Song Bird...

Your lungs constricted when the realization hit you. You balled up your fist when the thought of a quick jab to his side started to look like a good idea. "You?! -..."

But before you could finish, or call him out - Hawks was already on his way to the stage. And more than ever you wanted to slap the shit out of him.

Was that healthy? Wanting to slap and yet kiss a man at the same time? Grant it, you would never condone violence... but the thought of it entertained you.

Your humor must be broken.

You snorted to yourself as you crossed your arms. You then stood dead center of the dance floor - in front of the grand stage.

As the current top 10 Heroes lined up, you then felt a warmth coming to stand closer to you than anyone in your proximity.

You looked over to see that familiar blonde with striking red eyes hover just centimeters from your side.

"Katsuki." You acknowledged with a smile. "Oh! I'm sorry! I haven't had a chance to ask you... do you prefer Bakugo?"

Katsuki's eyes kept forward - focusing on the stage before him, but he made every intention of gaining your attention.

His posture was stiff, his arms crossed, and a hard look bestowed across his boyish features.

"Katsuki." His voice was flat, but you smiled in return. Because if someone like Katsuki Bakugo would let you call him by his first name - was quite the progress.

"You looked like you were going to punch that feathered idiot there." Katsuki observed.

You lightly laughed - mostly because Katsuki had obviously been watching your interaction with Hawks just moments before.

"Nah." You tried playing it off. "I'm just in a room full of Pro Heroes, and amazing soon-to-be Heroes." You gestured towards the blonde - his spikey hair moved ever so slightly as he finally turned his head to meet your timid E/C eyes. "I'm just nervous." That much was true.

A deep exhale came from Katsuki as he glanced back at the stage. "Well... you... you look good tonight." His voice was almost muffled as he stuffed his hands in his pant pockets and his jaw tightened with tension. "So I don't know why you're so damn nervous."

Your heart warmed at Katsuki's compliment. Because coming from him... that was HUGE.

Your eyes softened, and you couldn't help but to gaze at the young Hero in training. "Thank you. And likewise." You smiled. "You look great in a suit if I might add."

"Tch." Katsuki turned his head away from you - probably to hide the very faint creeping blush that complimented his already rosy irises. But you already caught a quick glimpse of the blonde's change in color - as it wasn't hard to miss with his fair skin.

'Cute.' You thought.

"Well, Katsuki..." You uncrossed your arms and playfully bumped your shoulder into his. "I'm glad to be your classmate now. Time to kick your ass."

You knew that challenge would break him from his shell.

Katsuki whipped his head towards you, and his hands plunged into one another; punching into his palm - as little firecrackers popped off around his hands.

"Bet." Katsuki's smile reached his narrow eyes - giving him an almost intimidating look.

You giggled at his antics - thoroughly looking forward to working with - and against this explosive guy in academic challenges.

But Katsuki's smile faded into a sneer as his eyes trailed back to the stage once again. "Your boyfriend the jealous type?"

That caught you off guard. "Who? Hawks? He's not my boyfriend."

"Yeah, well... he sure doesn't act like it."

You looked up to where Katsuki's eyes were focused on.

It seems that the announcer was going to each and every Hero down the line - asking them cliché questions about Hero work.

You then laid your eyes on Hawks.

His attention was fully trained on you and Katsuki - his eyes bright and narrow - and his crimson wings seemed to fan out a little wider due to the ruffles in his feathers.

You gave him a lop-sided smile, wondering why he looked a bit troubled and... precarious. You knew that Hawks could hear your entire conversation with Katsuki, as you were still wearing the feather around your neck. You didn't say anything disrespectful...

Could Katsuki be right? Was Hawks jealous? Did he take offense to something you said? But what?

If that were the case... that Bird Man should at least be more honest with what he was feeling. Especially towards you.

'I'd like to be a little more straight forward with my words tonight, if you don't mind.' Your head instinctively repeated the words Hawks had said on the car ride there.

Was he going to be more forward with his feelings? Is that why Hawks stood up on that stage looking a little disheveled?

Was... was he afraid that another man would come and sweep you off your feet before he did?

This was a date after all...

Gosh... there you go with your over thinking again. Stop, Y/N.

"He's just analyzing his surroundings." You finally chimed; defending the Winged Hero.

Katsuki side-eyed your profile, enticed by what you had to say.

"Hawks is the Number 2 for a reason." You continued. "In all honesty... I think that he works harder than most Heroes... and runs into situations that require the upmost difficult decisions."

"What do you mean by that?" Katsuki asked.

You smiled; lifting your head to face the Winged Hero, only to make eye contact with those pools of liquid gold. A soft smile had replaced the concerned look that he had before.

"Well..." You muttered; not breaking eye contact with Hawks as you knew that he was definitely listening now. "Due to his extensive training, I believe that Hawks is one of the few Heroes to put aside his morals for the greater good. Something that I don't think even the Number 1 would do."

Katsuki squinted his eyes at you; absorbing your words.

"A Hero is not someone who does something courageous when they have nothing to lose and something to gain..." You inhaled softly, choosing your words from the heart. "But rather... they are the one who will act well when they have nothing to gain, and everything to lose."

The look on Hawks face was of pure adoration, and the feather around your neck vibrated gently against your skin.

"Tch. Yeah, well - I'm going to surpass them all. Even All Might."

Looking over at Katsuki, a genuine look of idolization bestowed in your features. "That's very 'Bakugo' of you." You chuckled. "You can accomplish anything if you put your head to it - and your heart is in the right place. I believe in you, Katsuki."

The hot-headed Blonde didn't know how to take your kind words. He barely knew you. And yet, you made him feel like he's known you for a very long time.

Katsuki was about to say something to you that he never would have thought he would say to anyone. And just as he were about to open his mouth...

"Kacchan!"

Katsuki's whole demeanor changed as his whole body slumped when Izuku came walking up with Shoto on his heels.

"Mister Aizawa is looking for us." Izuku exclaimed. "Hey, Y/N! I'm really excited that you're in Class 1-A now! We can go over notes, study, go over Quirks and...-"

"STOP IT, YOU MORON!"Katsuki's voice echoed even over the announcer; causing a few bystanders to look at what the ruckus was all about.

Katsuki's fist then came down on top of poor Izuku's head - his green hair flattened out from the sudden impact.

Thankfully - the hit was not enough to knock the poor guy out. But probably enough to earn him a decent headache.

Izuku squinted his eyes, and a single 'Ow' escaped his lips.

"That's rude, Katsuki." You reprimanded.

"You don't want to hear this damn Nerd ramble all night, do you?!"

"Inside voice." You whispered, mocking the hot-headed blonde as you put your index finger to his lips as if to shush him.

Katsuki was baffled by your sudden and bold move of touching him. His thick eyelashes fluttered open widely. He practically went cross-eyed whilst looking at your finger resting upon him.

That cute blush spilled over the Blonde's cheeks as he gently swatted your hand away. "Tch. You asked for it."

If Katsuki was being honest with himself, you stole his breath away. Literally. And he didn't know what to say or how to react to you touching him. Nor could he believe what he was about to say to you before he was interrupted. So he stuffed his hands back in his pockets as he turned on his heel to find his Teacher.

"Woah." Izuku muttered. "No one has ever tamed Kacchan's temper once it starts."

You giggled. "He's really a great guy with good intentions. Just misunderstood sometimes." You then looked to both Izuku and Shoto. "You're both great guys as well. I look up to all of you."

Izuku's smile was like sunshine - it was contagious and you couldn't help but to smile as widely as he was.

Shoto had a gentle and warm grin. One that you could definitely get used to.

"Thank you." Shoto responded. "I look forward to being in class with you. You look nice by the way."

You ugly laughed. "Thanks."

Being complimented by these guys was a dream come true. You could die happy about now.

As you watched them leave, you looked back to Hawks, and he was about to be questioned by the announcer.

The Winged Hero was a bit more relaxed now. His wings flexed for the camera - as all attention was on him.

"Hey, Number 2!" The announcer echoed into the microphone. "You've come a long way, climbing the ranks at such a young age with great momentum. So tell us, what do you think makes a good Hero?"

Hawks looked at you; his features soft as you smiled coyly right back.

You raised your brows; urging for him to answer. You were curious as to what he would say.

The Pro Hero leaned into the microphone mischievously. Endeavor stood next to him as the massive Number 1 pinched the bridge of his nose - expecting a smart ass response from the man beside him.

"All of these yadda yadda questions, man! No one wants to hear this kind of canned crap." Hawks announced.

Endeavor glared at the Number 2 - a silent warning of not to go too far.

"But... I haven't been more happier to answer such a question until now." Hawks continued, and even a few Pro Heroes whom stood on stage stretched their necks sideways in shock to make sure that this was the same Hawks they all knew.

"A Hero is not someone who does something courageous when they have nothing to lose and something to gain..." The Winged Hero repeated your words, and your heart fluttered. "But rather... they are the one who will act well when they have nothing to gain, and everything to lose."

Endeavor didn't try to hide the surprised look on his face as his flames settled to a calmer flow as Hawks continued.

"Someone special said that... and I will forever keep those words with me. Only fair that I share it with the world."

"Wow, Number 2!" The announcer acknowledged, followed by applause and 'oohs' and 'awwes' from the crowd. "Can we ask who that special someone is?"

Hawks snatched the microphone, his cocky façade back in full action as he began to flap his wings - lifting him mere feet off of the stage.

"Thought you would never ask." Hawks smirked.

You internally panicked. You did not want to be put on the spot. Not yet.

Cameras, the public, the media... and every Pro Hero would have their eyes upon you. For right now... that's a hard pass.

"That special someone is standing right th-.. YEHT!" And before Hawks could finish, his voice hit octaves that no one would ever think possible.

And there you were... wearing a devilish smile as you tweaked the feather in between your fingers.

Hawks instantly planted his feet on the ground, reeling in what had just happened. "Hiccups." He smiled. "What can I say? Too much coffee has gotten me excit-ED, man!"

You then pinched the feather, making sure to linger the sensitive quill in between your fingertips.

Hawks grit his teeth. "And now to hear from Number 1! Get em' Old Man."

The Winged Hero practically tossed the microphone to Endeavor; the massive of a man eyeing Hawks with suspicious eyes as he hastily walked off stage.

You walked to the side of the crowded floor, and before you knew it - a breathless Hawks appeared beside you.

"Nice speech... Song Bird." You mocked.

"Ya know..." Hawks' eyes were a bit wild, but you didn't mind the least. "Be careful what you wish for, Sweet Stuff."

"I wished for something?"

"Rub the lamp three times and a genie pops out." He pointed towards the feather that hung on your chest.

"I can't tell if you're being a pervert, funny, protective... or all of the above."

"So you don't like the nickname?"

You sighed. "I do... but I felt embarrassed because of, eh... how you came up with said name." You rubbed your forearm as a distraction.

You really hadn't made those kinds of 'seductive' sounds with anyone. Ever.

The wildness left Hawks' eyes, and were soon relaxed into a softened state. "Sweetheart... you have nothing to be embarrassed about. In fact... if I need to embarrass myself to make amends - I'll admit... I could barely control myself in that Library with you."

"I-I had had the same problem. And I apologize for that." You sheepishly looked down. "I don't want you to think that I'm that kind of first date."

The Winged Hero took a step closer to you, the scent of his sandalwood cologne eased some of your tension as he gently cupped your chin between his thumb and forefinger - lifting you to face him. "I for one am not sorry." He smiled. "And I would NEVER think of you as that kind of first date - as you put it. I wouldn't change what happened in there for the world."

His fingers then released your chin, sliding down your neck and rested upon your collarbone as he caressed a certain spot. "Although..." Hawks continued. "I am sorry for this... uh. I didn't mean to bite."

He gently circled the dark and bruising area on your neck - your makeup job not exactly doing the trick to cover it up.

"Heh... Don't worry." You mumbled. " I liked i-..."

"Well, well, well! If it isn't Mister Noble Hero with that noble speech!" Mirko appeared beside you as she thumped her foot in amusement. "You must be rubbing off on him, Y/N. Because that was some show."

"Hey - am I not capable of giving noble speeches?" Hawks retorted.

"Look at this." Mirko brought her phone up; scrolling through social media. "You're already trending, Lover Boy."

Suddenly, Present Mic appeared out of nowhere as he began to list out loud of what was trending. "Hawks has a special someone? Pro Hero Hawks, the soft side no one knew? Hashtag Hawks and his girlfriend!" Taking out his own phone, Present Mic then formed an O with his lips as a faint whistle escaped from his mouth. "Pictures of Y/N are already circulating from tonight. Get it, girl!"

Your mouth hung open. "You're fucking kidding me."

"Heyyyyy. We look good in this one!" Hawks held up his phone to your face as you scrunched your nose. You tried to focus your eyes on the bright photo on his device before he retracted and started to scroll some more.

"The only other thing trending is this miracle boy." Mirko stated. "The Promise and Thomas. You guys hear about that one?"

"Yeah, I heard about it." Hawks muttered; his tone turning serious. His nose was still buried in his phone; swiping through photos of the two of you. "No other Hero fits the Angelic description of what that boy encountered. Nor do I even know of anyone with that powerful of a healing Quirk."

Mirko agreed. "Seems that there's some magic at work here."

You literally choked on air. This was all a bit too much. "I uhhh... need to use the washroom."

"You okay?" Hawks asked; sliding his phone back into his pocket.

You nodded your head to assure that you were fine.

"Want company?" Mirko smiled.

"Sure."

As you made your way to the restroom with the Pro Rabbit Hero walking beside you... you couldn't help but to gulp down your nerves.

What a wild first date this was. And you weren't exactly ready for what was about to happen next...
