Chapter 14: Something To Show You

Authors Note: I greatly apologize for the late update! I'm still aiming to post weekly! It's just that I had this chapter mostly typed out when... it accidently got deleted! A writer's worst nightmare! So after that... I couldn't remember it all - therefore, it resulted in a short writer's block. But... I am back at it! And I'm posting two chapters to help catch up with my tardiness :) So thank you for reading, voting, and commenting! It means a lot!

********************

The next day you woke up fairly early. Your body was still a bit sore, but not necessarily from the academic tests... as you had been resting for a week already. It was mainly because you were immobile for that whole week. Bed ridden... in a coma-like state to be exact.

Your body wasn't used to not moving around - and the stiffness needed to be worked out of your muscles.

You ignored the pain the best you could by taking a few painkillers every 4 to 6 hours throughout the night.

Speaking of last night, Hawks made sure you got home safely. Having one of his personal cars pick you up and take you home.

He would've flown you himself, but he thought in your current state of healing - he wanted to be safe rather than sorry. And besides... he had to be extra sneaky when he left the hospital.

Hawks was forced to leave from the rooftop of the building due to the Press camping in inconspicuous vehicles outside of the facility. So instead of the steady and comfy flight he was hoping to give you... he needed to be quick and agile.

And shortly after you had arrived home, you saw the Pro Hero fly over your balcony... and that was it. You silently watched him disappear into the darkened sky.

Now it was morning. An early morning, with a sore body. And all thoughts on that damn bird man.

You wished he would've stayed a little last night - but then a part of you was glad that Hawks had ventured off.

To work probably. As he was missing a lot of it because of you... and you felt bad because of that. Even though it was one hundred percent his choice to spend every day at the hospital - whilst waiting for you to wake up.

But one of the main things that you really couldn't shake from your mind... was that almost kiss. Again.

This time, you knew Hawks was going in for a kiss. And now... you had a date with him.

YOU had a DATE with the Number 2 Pro Hero, Hawks.

How the fuck did that happen?

You chuckled to yourself as you thought about how many others would practically kill to be in your position.

You still questioned as to why Hawks was drawn to you. You sensed that he might have found you somewhat interesting when you had first met. Now... it was becoming obvious.

You shook your head. Forget questioning anything at the moment. Because in about a day... you decided that you were just going to enjoy yourself. No matter how fucking nervous you were.

You had a date with Hawks at a Heroes Gala, and you wondered if that would draw any attention.

Brilliant.

Now - time to find a dress.

You huffed at the idea of having to go shopping - as you didn't exactly have the time to do so. You had training to do. But... you wanted to at least dress the part for your date.

And before you headed out the door - you stopped to look at the small crimson feather necklace on the kitchen table.

You smiled... a soft and genuine smile as you picked the necklace up, put it over your head - and tucked the soft quill under your shirt as you then headed out to run your errands.

********************

You had actually invested in a small sorts car, (yeah, you had a soft spot for luxury automobiles). But it was convenient considering you weren't fully comfortable just yet to actually fly to your destinations.

Your first stop was the hospital. You needed to pick up your new schedule, as you had requested to only work once every other week or so - due to Hero training.

Surprisingly, after your testing, the Hero Public Safety Commission had offered to fund you and your expenses.

You knew this was probably the Commission up to something... but you would deal with it when that time comes.

And as you picked up a copy of the schedule in the break room, the voice of the last person you wanted to see at the hospital echoed behind you - as you practically lowered your head in irritation.

"Oh, Y/N! Glad to see you're doing okay."

You then stuffed the schedule into your bag as you turned around to face Doctor Vance with a fabricated smile. "Yup. Definitely okay. Thanks."

The break room was empty now - and you really didn't want to make small talk with Doctor Vance, so you headed for the door. "Nice to see you again." You added out of respect... not that he deserved it.

But Doctor Vance shot his arm out, and rested his hand against the door frame - blocking your exit.

You stopped dead in your tracks; raising your eyebrows as you couldn't believe that this man would make such a bold move. You really did not want to hurt him.

"So... you and Hawks?" The Doctor pried. "The Number 2 Pro Hero. Are you two... seeing each other or something? It's impressive, I'll give you that. But a beautiful woman like yourself... I guess that's no surprise there."

"Are you serious? That is really none of your business if I was or wasn't." You spat. "Hawks was there simply because I had a Hero-related incident happen." You fumed as your body became rigid. "And I'm already telling you enough. Now... if you would be so kind as to move aside."

Doctor Vance leaned in a little closer to you, and your face mirrored with disgust. "You both looked a little too comfy for it to be 'Hero-related' when I walked in."

'Is this guy fucking serious?!' You thought to yourself as you balled up your fists; ready to take a swing.

"I mean... look at this." Doctor Vance laughed as he reached for the necklace around your neck, and pulled the small red feather from under your shirt.

You flinched backward - the shock of how this man was acting overtook your common sense as you stood there frozen.

Doctor Vance licked his lips as he then gripped the quill in his palm. "I bet he doesn't kiss you as good as I would."

You were simply dumbfounded. So shocked that you didn't even notice Doctor Vance grasp the feather and use the chain of the necklace to pull you in for an obvious kiss - as his lips puckered for yours.

"What the fu-?!" You yelped.

And just as you were about to whack this idiot, the Doctor cried out in pain.

He tossed the feather as a droplet of blood slipped from his hand.

You looked down to the feather, and it was as stiff as a blade.

And as soon as you picked it up from your chest - you twirled it around in between your fingers whilst admiring at how this once soft quill turned into a weapon... it then immediately softened with your touch.

"That is so cool." You chuckled.

Your glare then found the confused Doctor before you. "Don't you EVER try anything like that again. Do you understand? Because you will get way more than you bargained for. If you haven't so already." You motioned towards the feather.

You didn't even wait for an answer - as you stormed off and out of the hospital.

You sat down in the small ragtop vehicle a little more dramatically than you intended when your phone buzzed.

You looked at the text message - a smile threatened to surface after such a shitty encounter.

Bird Man
9:55 AM
"Are you okay?"

You snorted. Hawks really sensed his feather doing that?

You
9:56 AM
"Indeed, I am. Thank you."

Bird Man
9:56 AM
"What happened?"

You
9:58 AM
"Nothing really."

It was obvious that you were avoiding telling him something, but you didn't want to pin your issues upon the Pro Hero. You were sure he had enough to worry about.

Bird Man
9:59 AM
"That didn't seem like nothing...☹️"

Gosh! Why was he so damn... CUTE?!

You forcefully leaned forward in your car; hitting your forehead against the steering wheel.

You inhaled deeply, only for your phone to start ringing.

You lifted your head to look at your phone.

"Aizawa." You read the call name; scrunching your eyebrows as to what he could possibly want.

You finally answered the call. "Hello?"

"L/N. I trust you're not busy at the moment?" Aizawa asked.

"Actually..."

But you were cut off with the Pros urgency. "Meet me at UA in 30."

'Click'

"Oookay." You replied to an empty line.

********************

You arrived at UA; now sitting in darkened lobby.

"Jeez. Do these lobbies have any decent lighting?" You said aloud as you casually leaned against a table waiting for Aizawa to arrive.

"Heard that you were up and conscious from the hospital." Aizawa stated as he made his way through the door; his light footsteps echoed throughout the empty room.

"Yeah, alive and well." You exclaimed; waiting for the teacher to tell you why you were here.

"Hawks here saved you before you could fall to your death after you lost consciousness." Aizawa gestured as the Number 2 suddenly appeared from behind him.

You didn't even see Hawks come in. How did he do that? How did you not see him - with his wings and all?

You were beginning to notice at how inconspicuous the winged Hero could really be.

"Anything for you, Sweetheart." Hawks winked as he came to stand directly next to you - leaning his lower back against the same table as you did whilst stuffing his hands in his pockets. That cute smirk of his made you smile in return.

"Wait... you didn't tell me that. You saved me from free falling?" You questioned. "I passed out in midair? What a dumb ass."

Hawks snorted at your own reprimanding. "Well, it's a good thing that I'm fast."

"What else do you not remember?" Aizawa questioned further.

You knew this questioning was coming one way or another. You hadn't even gone over your tests with Aizawa yet... let alone the Hero Commission. All you knew was that the Hero Commission was wanting to support you financially. There was a ploy behind it, of course. But you were just riding it out for now.

"Last thing I remember was trying to control my Quirk from a rooftop." You confirmed.

"You made 24 million dollars worth of robotic technology disintegrate." The tired-looking Teacher's tone was bland as he crossed his arms.

You pout your lips. "Um... sssorry?"

"And my Quirk did not work against yours."

"Again, you got me there." You tensed as you began to nibble on your thumbnail.

Hawks eyed you - his keen sense of training was telling him that you were nervous about something. Also, the feather he knew that you were wearing against your chest picked up on your uneven pulse.

The winged Hero remembered when he had first met you - how you instantly retracted away from him when he had asked what your Quirk was.

Some kind of trauma exists, and you weren't the one to open up so easily about it. And a part of Hawks related to you in that sense. The last thing he wanted to do was back you into a corner... but he also wanted to be there for you, and have you open up to him. And how he was going to do that... he currently had no idea. But he was focused on gaining that trust from you - and vise versa.

"You're going to be questioned by the Hero Commission." Aizawa continued. "And tested further into what your Quirk can do."

"Over my dead body." Hawks threatened as his eyes now seemed to illuminate under the faint florescent lights up above.

You and Aizawa looked over to Hawks - the Pro Hero's stern tone was completely out of character.

"That is not for you to decide, Hawks." Aizawa responded. "You know this better than anyone."

Hawks seemed to ignore the Teacher's words as he then shifted his body off of the table he was leaning upon. He turned to you and gently gripped your elbow - pulling you with him and heading for the door to leave.

"Oof!" A small breath of air escaped your lungs in surprise as you followed the Pro Hero; your elbow still in his gentle grasp.

"Do you always drag others to follow you?" You managed to say.

There was no response from the Number 2 - and you swallowed hard as you wondered what in the world was going through his mind to act a little irrationally.

Hawks knew that Aizawa was right - he did know better than anyone else on what the Commission was capable of. And if they wanted someone or something... they typically get it.

His mind then wandered to the day you took the tests; shortly after you had passed out and taken to the hospital...

**

"L/N has the power to do things that are unheard of." A member of the Commission stated. "What's her Quirk again?"

Hawks leaned against the nearby wall with one leg propped up against the surface behind him. His arms crossed, and his yellow visors hugging his face tighter than usual as he listened to the Commission members converse at what they had just witnessed. Even he was processing what he had just seen what you were capable of.

"Says here... Magus." Another Commission member recited as he read from a file he held.

"Means... Magic? Right? Well what is that supposed to mean? Is her Quirk like magic? What does that entail? And your Quick failed to work against L/N's, right, Aizawa?"

The sleepy Teacher sat at a nearby table and simply nodded in response.

"So from what we've seen today," The member continued. "L/N has more than excellent physical fighting skills. Her Quirk is unheard of, and has an unknown limit of power. I would consider her a Grade A. In other words... she is dangerous. More of a weapon than anything."

Hawks' wings abruptly expanded, causing a loud 'whoosh' of air around him. They then fitted behind his back in a stiffened state as he continued to listen.

"It seems that she was designed to 'take down' rather than 'save others'."

"So what do you suggest we do? Lock her up?"

A bundle of red feathers shot out towards the Commission members; pinning the file one of them was holding - and the rest pierced the wall behind them.

Everyone jerked their heads towards the Number 2 who now stood up straight; facing them. His expression hard to read - as Hawks dipped his chin further into the collar of his jacket.

"You really intend on just locking an innocent person away?" Hawks started, his voice now becoming stern.

"Retract your feathers, Number 2. We saw your reaction when you had saved L/N from falling." A Commission member continued as she pointed at Hawks. "Also, the way you embraced her after that fall. Is there a relationship with L/N that would cross the professional line?"

Hawks ignored the accusations as he stepped closer. "Could you imagine Y/N falling into the hands of the enemy? You claim that she could be used as a weapon... then what do you use me for, hmm?"

The winged Hero raised his brows in confrontation as he pressed further. "Locking her up would just prove that you're no better than the Villains out there. You WANT Y/N to be on our side... not someone elses'."

Hawks absolutely hated what he was saying... but he hated the fact that these people were thinking about locking you up even more. He wouldn't let that happen to you though. Not while his heart was still beating in this world.

The Commission seemed to mull over with what the Number 2 was saying. Because all in all... he was right.

"So..." The member continued; considering their options. "L/N would definitely be the 'nuke' that you send in when the 'messenger bird' failed." He eyed Hawks; hinting to the Pro Hero's undercover work.

Hawks grit his teeth. The last thing he would want - would be for you to get tangled in the undercover work he was currently in.  Because he would be lying to himself if he didn't admit to the now strong urge to protect you.

"We will need to conduct more tests."

"She's not a damn Guinea pig." Hawks' eyes thinned.

The Commission members ignored the winged Hero's growing irritation. "Until next time - dismissed. And Hawks... control that demeanor of yours. It's bluntly obvious that you've come to L/N's defense, and its been noted."

Hawks said nothing as he left the room to join your side to wait for you to wake up in the hospital.

**

Hawks had led you to the rooftop.

You silently followed him when he finally released your elbow.

He still hadn't said a word - but thinking back to Aizawa mentioning the Commission, you had a faint idea of why the winged Hero was a little on edge.

Of course... you knew more than what you put out there. Hawks didn't know this - no one knew this - and his silence was probably a form of protecting you in a way that he knew how.

As you both stepped onto the rooftop, the breeze felt amazing as it caressed through your hair.

You gently closed your eyes as the warmth of the sun soaked into your skin - enjoying the sensation.

But as you were basking in the simple pleasures around you, you didn't notice Hawks walk up behind you.

He gently rubbed a spot on your back; a type of unknown pressure cascaded across your shoulder blades.

Your eyes shot open as you winced.

But you didn't wince in pain - it was almost as if Hawks had grabbed a hold of something on your back... but what did he grab?

You turned to face him - the look of confusion evident on your face.

The Pro Hero chuckled. "This is where the base of your wings should be. See?"

He then continued to rub at the spot on your back - and again - that odd feeling of pressure shot down your spine. It was as if he were simply grabbing your arm... but he wasn't. He was gripping something on your back but... there was nothing there. You were even having a hard time explaining this newfound sensation to yourself.

"You claim that you simply manifest your wings." Hawks then walked around to face you as he lifted his visors to his forehead.

He then slightly leaned down to level the eye contact between the two of you.

"Your wings are actually APART of you." Hawks corrected. "Use them."

You blinked a few times - trying to absorb what he just said.

"Your wings are always there." He continued as he reached towards you, and softly tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear. "I sensed them the first time I met you. So... fly with me?"

"I..." You stumbled on your words as your eyes swayed side to side - taking in the man before you. His crooked smile took your breath away as he expanded his own impressive wings.

"I'm not exactly the best flier." You admitted; shrugging your shoulders. "Not much experience."

"I know." Hawks mused.

"Of course you do." You chuckled jokingly.

"Don't you worry, Baby Bird. I'm here to catch you." Hawks soothed as he lifted his right boot to the ledge, and his other planted in front of you. He then reached down - extending a black-gloved hand to you. "Even when you're not falling. I'll catch you."

Other times when Hawks had reached out to you... there was always a form of hesitation from your side. But this time... you didn't even think twice as you reached for the hand that you craved more than ever.

And Hawks noticed. He noticed everything about you.

How you acted. Your body language. Your tone of voice. The way you handled things. Your reactions to him...

Almost as if he was imprinting YOU into his own state of mind.

Hawks gently guided you up to stand with him on the ledge - the wind a little more harsh as you looked down to the sidewalk below.

And it was almost as if instinct kicked in as you felt a tingling sensation spread across your back.

Your veins faintly glowed, and the ripping fabric of your shirt sounded over the breeze.

Your black and white ombre wings emerged in all their splendid glory - expanding out and behind Hawks as his eyes sparkled with admiration.

The Pro Hero lifted his hand as if he wanted to touch your quills, but instead - he hovered his palm just over the striking black and white feathers; gliding his fingers over the thin layer of air in between him and you.

He didn't want to touch your feathers without asking - even you had asked to touch his wings... so he admired from his current place.

And with a deep breath, Hawks squeezed your hand. "Come on, Kid. I have something to show you."
