Chapter 12: Wings Unfolded

The pit of your stomach traveled to your chest - as the force of free falling sent your adrenaline spiraling out of control.

You then felt the back of your shirt rip under the pressure of your wings - every black and white feather materializing out of thin air.

And as soon as they fully solidified - with one powerful thrust, you tucked your wings close to your back - causing you to shoot up and into the sky.

Anyone watching had only seen you jettison into the clouds - Hawks especially trying to put together how you were doing it.

He had excellent eye sight, but your image was blurred into the banks of high-rise fog.

The Villain Bot hovered over Hawks and Aizawa now - as it aimed in your direction; waiting for a clear target.

But you broke through the clouds with speed.

It seemed to all happen in slow motion as you aimed at your objective - your wings expanded outward in all their splendid glory.

The dull lighting of the sky ricocheted off of your quills - creating the illusion of Heaven and Hell within your wingspan. Light and Darkness blending into one.

The backdraft coiled within your outstretched wings - which strained against your back. And directly below you - was a wide-eyed Pro Hero...

Hawks couldn't take in what he was seeing at first - as he had never seen anyone possessing wings in the same fashion as he did.

His eyes glimmered, his mouth open, and every fiber of his being screamed in adoration.

He had already been drawn to you... but this confirmed what he was feeling. You were the most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes upon.

"I knew it!" He cried out, recalling the times he could have sworn he sensed a part of you being hidden. Which was why he would awkwardly stare at your back the few times that he did.

Maybe it was because you actually possessed wings, Hawks' instincts felt akin to you... because his senses told him so. And his gut feelings were usually never wrong.

As you flung yourself towards the armed Villain Bot, the familiar sound of a low bass cord echoed in a 10 yard radius - the creation of energy and matter around you - building into a destructive weapon at your disposal.

The ball of energy you created collided with the Robot in full force; heaving the massive machinery to the ground, and crippling it beyond repair.

And as you twirled around in midair, you aimed for your landing.

Your last landing wasn't so graceful... and a 'tuck and roll' would be thoroughly embarrassing.

So as the ground came nearer, you tried slowing your speed.

You were unsteady, but steady enough to land - sliding on your tiptoes in the dirt as you lowered into a crouching position, and reached one hand down to level yourself on the terrain.

Trying to catch your breath, your wings heaved up and down with your breathing.

And as you turned around, you almost collided with Hawks - as he was already making his way towards you with an outstretched hand. Almost as if he wanted to touch your wings to make sure he wasn't imagining things.

But before he could get to you, an Official grabbed you by the arm, and practically chucked you into a transport pod. Your wings being stuffed within the small car-like vehicle that suddenly showed up to take you to Ground Beta.

"Your next test will commerce immediately." The Official told you.

And as you drove away, you practically plastered your face against the window as you stared at Hawks. The winged-Hero already spreading his wings to head to your next challenge. He didn't want to miss a single moment with you.

*******************

You were standing on a rooftop at Ground Beta. You took in the city landscape - looking ahead as you had already seen the lower-grade Villain Bots placed strategically around the entire perimeter.

Hawks and the few Pros and Officials were in a viewing room - the rest watching from a live feed from another location once again.

Aizawa stood before you - the wind had picked up a little, causing you to squint your eyes to avoid the dryness.

"Last challenge, L/N." Aizawa noted. "This test... do not hold back."

You scrunched your face. "What? You want me to release how I did when I first came to UA that day?"

"Yes. And even more. They want to see your full potential." Aizawa continued. "I will come to you if things get out of control. Remember what my Quirk is. You're in safe hands."

You looked to the side, wondering if his Quirk would work against your powers. If it didn't... you could kill yourself.

"Sensei..." Your voice soft and full of concern. "I could kill myself if things go haywire."

"You have more than enough Pro Heroes here to stop you if something goes completely wrong." Aizawa exclaimed - as if he'd thought of a backup plan already.

You inhaled deeply - holding it in to calm your nerves.

'I need to trust them, remember?' You told yourself.

"Okay." Was all you could muster. Because you would be lying to yourself if you said you weren't scared. You had NEVER released to your full potential. Ever.

As Aizawa walked away, you shivered. And not because of the wind... but you were truly afraid.

But just before your panic could fully settle in... that familiar single red feather came floating towards you. But attached to it - was a small chain.

It then looped over your head, and then rested against your neck.

A necklace? Did Hawks really make a necklace out of his feather? Just for you...

Tears swelled up once again as you gently picked up the soft quill; caressing it between your fingers. Something you did to calm your nerves... and it never failed to work effortlessly.

You then held the feather to your face as you closed your eyes - and relished in the comfort it provided. You also could have sworn you could feel a pulse vibrating through the small quill.

After today, you were definitely going to put your insecurities aside - and open up to this man whom brought you such reassurance.

And taking a deep breath - you opened your eyes, and focused on the Bots in every direction. Ready for the loud-sounding 'BUZZ' to start your final challenge.

********************

Hawks stood in the viewing room below the compound. About 15 widescreen televisions plastered along the massive wall - all displaying different views of different spots in Ground Beta.

Hawks watched you as you cradled the feather he had sent out there - the warm feeling in his heart swelling with affection that he could literally feel from you simply holding it.

As Aizawa entered the room, Hawks didn't take his eyes off of you on the screen as his tone came out flat and serious. "Shota Aizawa."

The teacher pierced his brows as he looked to the winged-Hero whom kept his eyes focused on you.

"Do not let anything happen to her." Hawks demanded. "I hope you know what you're doing. Because if she gets hurt... or worse..."

His voice trailed off - not wanting to finish his sentence as if his fear would come true if he did. The bird-like Hero side glanced the tired-looking Pro as they shared but a stare - a silent confirmation of what Hawks' threat meant.

And as their attention came back to the screens, the loud 'BUZZ' signaled the start of Y/N's test to start.

********************

You heard the signal. And with one last calming breath - you shot from the rooftop - flapping your wings harder than usual.

If you were going to test your limits... you were going to go all out.

You then aimed for every single Villain Bot, tapping the top of one and the next - provoking every single machine to come to you in one spot.

That was your plan. Luring each and every Bot to one spot and unleash everything you had.

And so far... your plan was working. About 15 huge green Robots ran towards you as you flew to each and every one.

When finally... you came to the last one - landing on a rooftop with a loud 'thump'.

The Bot slowly raised high above the building as you stared down at the asphalt you landed upon - letting the calm demeanor you had created overtake you.

Your eyes were already dry, your throat tight, and your body tense... and as all 20 Villain Bots were in close proximity - you powered your wings for one good flap as you jolted upward.

You gripped onto the energy around you - sucking in every form of matter - and released an explosion close to 4 crates of C4 explosives.

The ground below even protested against the pure power of what you unleashed.

Hawks and the others in the viewing room gripped onto the walls or chairs for balance - as the surface beneath them shook. All of the live feeds were instantly lost - causing every flat screen to go black.

"What the -??" Endeavor cursed to himself as everyone else rushed up to the surface to see what the hell you had done.

Hawks was the first to shoot up and outside; wanting a clear view of you in the sky batting down each Bot with an unknown force. And right above you... the sky had turned a milky black.

The winds picked up tremendously, and a whirlwind similar to a tornado started to materialize within the milky black heavens.

You landed upon another rooftop to try and harness this power - stretching your hands out to your sides as the winds and molecules formed a barrier over both of your arms.

You grit your teeth as your muscles strained against the pressure. The power penetrated to your bones as they protested in pain.

The roaring of thunder emerged from the black hole in the sky - looking as if it were a portal to a different dimension.

Endeavor's flames whipped around as if they had a mind of their own. "What in the world are we seeing here?!" His voice trying to raise over the sudden change in weather.

Hawks shielded his face with his gloved hand as the back of his tanned jacket whipped behind him. "Eraser!" He yelled. "You need to stop this! Right now!"

Aizawa didn't need to be told twice, as he was already covering his eyes with his goggles.

The teacher's hair stiffened, and his irises bore that bright red as he looked at you straight in the eye.

You met Aizawa's gaze, and waited for the pain to stop... but it didn't.

"FUCK!" You cried out.

Of course Aizawa's Quirk wouldn't work against you... you were considered Quirkless.

It was all up to you now. And you needed to control this power... or you will die.

And with that frame of mind, you gained every ounce of self control you had.

You had the entire Pro Hero world watching you. Hawks... was watching you. So you had BETTER get your shit together.

Just then - everything went quiet... it was as if time had stopped just for you as that small brilliant-red feather that hung around your neck gently floated before your face. It hovered there as you faintly smiled at what you had to look forward to in this world. A sudden clarity and strength coming from deep within your soul.

Your epiphany then ended as time suddenly resumed, and the ear-piercing winds sounded once again. You cried out as you strained against the force. You could feel your bones start to falter, but you pushed your body anyway.

The winds were too loud to hear Hawks crying out to you, and the other Pros ready to rush in to try and hopefully get you to stop.

But as you mustered up the last of your own energy, you jolted upward with a violent flap of your wings - shooting back up and into the untamed sky.

The gusts were so powerful, that the last remaining Robots were caught in a pathway of a cyclone - as the hunks of machinery flew around your figure - completely immobilized and at your disposal.

And as you felt yourself finally grasp onto the power around you - you quickly held on to it, bringing both of your arms over your head.

And with one hard CLAP of your palms... everything completely disintegrated; including the Villain Bots.

The impact alone from such a repercussion backlashed against you - the shockwave knocking you out cold.

"She did it." An Official stated; clearly shocked at what she had just witnessed.

"Wait... is she okay? She's falling to the ground!" Another cried out.

"Nope....! Nope! She's out!" Hawks yelled.

The winged Hero then flapped his wings with such force, a few Officials were knocked slightly off their feet behind him.

The bird-like Hero gave one last expansion of his crimson wings as he tucked them close to his back to jet forward faster than the human eye could see.

And just before you could hit the ground, Hawks caught you with open arms - saving your life.

He landed on the road below; gently cradling you with one hand behind your head - and another securing your waist as he fell to his knees. Your wings hung lifelessly as he was careful not to hurt them.

You vaguely came to - your consciousness coming back just enough to realize you were still alive.

"Hawks?" You managed to say.

"I'm here, Kid." The Pro smiled at you; his eyes glossed over with the sheer fact that you were okay.

"I'll go on that date with you."

"Wait, what? You will?" A nervous chuckle escaped his lips. "I lost that bet."

You hummed in response. "I don't want to go out on a date with you because of a bet." You smiled.

If you weren't half asleep, you could have sworn Hawks was about to cry about now. But before you could poke fun of him, you felt yourself drift back into your unintentional slumber.

"You rest for now, Baby Bird." Hawks cooed.

He then leaned down and ever so gently wrapped his firm arms around you - his biceps encasing your figure to mold to his.

His wings wrapped around the both of you securely, and his hand caressed the back of your head as he held you tightly - afraid to even let you go.

And for everyone watching... it was a touching scene that no one would ever forget.

********************

Night time had come hours ago as the slim-built man with dry and itchy skin sat before a laptop in what looked like a run down building.

Shigaraki sat there with that zombified hand upon his face as someone approached him.

The darkened figure stopped beside the notorious Villain - setting a USB flash drive on the table beside him.

"Good work." Shigaraki's voice coarse - as he waved the infiltrator off.

The Villain inserted the flash drive into the laptop before him as a grainy cellphone video displayed on the screen.

The video was of your tests earlier that day. And as soon as you came onto screen during your last challenge... the amount of power you had possessed caused Shigaraki's eyes to strain against the already bulging red veins behind his pupils.

He removed the hand from his face as he took in every ounce of you - the need to get a hold of you growing to an unstable desire.

"It seems that you're exactly what I need." He mumbled as he ran his decrypted nails across the thin layer of skin on his neck; causing the surface to split and bleed under his clawing. "Y/N L/N."
