chapter two

chapter two | i'm a mermaid, silly

Stiles is the first one to come out of shock. "You're a-- she's a.."

Ariel giggles. "I'm a mermaid silly."

"Right, uh yeah just uh give us a minute, will you?"

Ariel nods her head. "Okay I'll be right here," she says before humming a song.

"Okay," Stiles says. "I'm going to say this as calmly as I can-- How in the holy hell did a mermaid get into the lake?"

"You think I know?" Lydia asks. "One minute I'm taking a breath of fresh air, the next I'm seeing my favorite childhood princess swimming around in the lake!"

Stiles rubs his head. "Okay, okay what are we going to do with her?" Stiles asks the question they were all thinking.

Everyone turns to Scott, the True Alpha looking down at the ground. "What?" He says, feeling everyone's eyes on him. "Why are you all looking at me?"

"Because you're the True Alpha. You should know what to do." Stiles replies, flailing his hands in the air.

Scott narrows his eyes at Stiles. "Really? Because I remember someone telling me that you were the ones to make the plans."

Stiles sighs and then rolls his eyes. "Does anyone else have any ideas?" He asks, hands on his waists.

Malia shrugs. "I say we chop her up and make sushi."

"Malia!" The other for teenages yell in sync.

Lydia rolls her eyes and shakes her head. "Well we're going to have to do something. People swim in this lake and I don't really think they'll react well when they see a red-headed mermaid splashing around."

"Maybe we should go talk to her?" Kira suggests.

Lydia nods her head and then starts walking towards the lake where Ariel is humming, the pack following in suit.

Scott kneels before her. "Hey."

Ariel smiles at him. "Hi, I'm Ariel."

Scott nods his head. "I heard.."

"How did you get here?" Malia cuts in rudely.

Ariels face immediately grows somber. "The Sea Witch, I made a deal with her."

Lydia raises her eyebrow. "You made a deal with the Sea Witch? Why on earth would you do that?"

Ariel's eyes grow sad before she quickly recovers. She splashes her tail in the water. "That's a tale for another day," she replied with a cheesy grin on her face.

Stiles snorts in amusement making Ariel turn her attention to him. She smiles widely. "You're cute," she giggles.

A light shade of pink spreads across Stiles cheeks. "Thanks," he mumbles, looking down at his shoes.

Ariel's smile widens.

"Ariel, sweetheart, you can't stay here," Lydia tells the red-headed mermaid infront of her.

Ariel furrows her eyebrows. "Why not?" She asks with a slight pout.

"Because you're part fish," Malia says bluntly.

Kira taps her lightly. "Stop," she whispers quietly.

"But, I don't have anywhere else to go."

Lydia sighs. "You're gonna stay with me."

Ariel eyes light up. "Like a sleepover?" She asks in excitement.

Lydia chuckles. "Yeah," she nods her head. "Like a sleepover."

"Ok," Ariel says before climbing onto the dock. He once green tale transform into a lightly tan pair of human legs.

"Woah!" Stiles shouts surprised by her naked form. Scott quickly takes off his jacket and puts it on her shoulders.

"Thank you," Ariel smiles.

Scott gives her an awkward smile. "You're welcome."

"Okay, so I need you to be quiet, alright?" Lydia whispers to Ariel.

She nods her head rapidly. "I can do that," she smiles. "I can be quiet."

Ariel quietly follows Lydia up the stairs. "You're going to sleep in my room tonight, ok?"

Ariel smiles and nods. "But what about you're mom?"

Lydia sighs before opening her bedroom door. "I'm going to have to make something up."

"Well, what if you say I'm an exchange student?" Ariel suggest. "You could say you forgot to tell her about it."

Lydia nods her head in approval. "That could work," she says before furrowing her eyebrows. "Wait, how do you even know what an exchange student is?"

"Oh, we used to get the all the time at Fish Body High."

"You did?" Lydia asks in amusment and curiousity.

Ariel nods her head. "Yeah, they would swim over from the Pacific Ocean," she says before rolling her eyes. "They think they're all that because they live in the world's biggest ocean," she says, rolling her eyes.

"Wait, but California is by the Pacific Ocean."

Ariel nods her head. "Oh I know, Oceanography might not of been my favorite class but that doesn't mean I know nothing about it."

Lydia raises her eyebrow. "Well, wouldn't that make you a person who thinks they're all that?"

Ariel shakes her head. "God no, I'm from the Atlantic Ocean. I live in Atlantica with my seven sisters and father, King Triton."

Lydia takes a step back. "Woah, woah, woah," she says putting her hands up. "You're father is King Triton?" She asks in disbelief.

Ariel nods her head slowly.

"As in the God?" Lydia asks. "As in the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, god and godess of the seas? As in thhe messanger of the sea? That King Triton."

Ariel nods her head again. "Yup you got it," she says smiling widely, proud of who her father is.

Lydia smiles. "That's, that's incredible. But wait, wouldn't that make you like a godess?"

Ariel furrows her eyebrows. "I don't know," she shrugs. "But it doesn't matter because I don't want to be one."

Lydia's jaw falls open a small gasp escaping her lips. "Why wouldn't you want to be a godess?" She asks the little mermaid infront of her. "I mean, that would be amazing I would kill to be a godess," she gushes.

Ariel shakes her head. "That's not the life I want. I want to be free, I want to go on adventures and discover different things. I want to travel the world," Ariel tells her with a dreamy look in her eyes.

Lydia shakes her head still not grasping the fact that she would rather have adventures than be a godess. "Well, she claps her hands quietly. "We should probably go to sleep now. We have to wake up early tomorrow so I can sign you up for school."

Ariel nods before laying down in the bed. Lydia pulls the covers up and does the same. Ariel scoots over to Lydia and curls her body into Lydia's back like a puppy. "Goodnight Lydia," she whispers quietly.

Lydia smiles. "Goodnight Ariel."

"Thank you," the red-headed mermaid says before dozing off.
