K (2012)

Year: Fall 2012

Subbed

Episodes: 13

Cat.: Action, Supernatural

Summary:

Yashiro Isana has lived a relatively ordinary, simple life. He lives in the technology-advanced Shizume City and attends Ashinaka High School, a notable high school that is located on an island just outside the areas. Yashiro is friendly with everyone. Nothing ever seems wrong about him, except perhaps his habit of forgetting where his school-issued PDA is.

However, nothing normal has been happening since the recent murder of Tatara Totsuka, prominent member of the infamous HOMRA. No one knows who exactly killed him but the man responsible bears an uncanny, identical appearance to Yashiro. Seeking vengeance, the Red Clansmen of HOMRA set out to get Yashiro and kill him.

Everyone suspects that Yashiro is the murderer. But whether the guilt is his is not clear.

K has two manga that are related to it. K: Memory of Red a shojo type and K: Stray Dog Story aSeinen type. I've never seen a series that caters to two different demographics like that before. Between the two there are only 10 chapters, both serving as back stories. One for the Red King leader of HOMRA and one for Kuro aka the black dog or the stray dog.

Not that there is in any choice at the moment, but I do suggest watching this anime subbed because there is that use of Engrish that just doesn't crossover when its dubbed. There is also the use of German in this anime.

K honestly has some of the best animated fights I've ever seen. It's just badass from the very start.

In the world of K there are 7 Kings that have supernatuarl powers.  The Silver King is the first and controls the sky, the Gold King is the second and controls the Earth, the Red King is the third, the Blue King is the fourth, and the Colorless King is the seventh. The other two Kings have yet to be shown.

The show takes you on so many twist and turns.

My only problem with K is that it is only 13 episodes, even though a second season is coming out this year, the information that given in the first season could have easily filled up 26 episode length or maybe even 52. What could the producours be thinking?  But I guess if you are only going off feedback from a 5 chapters of back story it would be hard to get a big slot. So you get a condesded 13 episodes with most of the information being in the last 6 to 7.

The anime has been green-lit for a season two, which should come out in the spring lineup for this year.

Also, there is a lot of dislike for the show because apparently Shiro (a boy) blushes a lot when around Kuro (a boy). Which I didn't notice at all, besides the first time they met (that's in the pictures on the side and the first episode). The few other times Shiro blushed if I recall correctly was of Neko, who naked pretty much whenever she was in human form. Her nudity is equal to Holo's from Spice and Wolf, it didn't really matter. But others complain that it was an extreme on the fan service. Any way....

I give this a 4 out of 5.
