Kuroo Testurou X Neutral! Reader (Haikyuu!!) {Bookstore}

In which they meet at a bookstore at 1 am. Or, I made a comment "meeting at bookstore at one am? Yeah that sounds like a fanfic-"

The glorious years of university, getting young adults into debt the moment they leave their parents. Studying until they fall asleep at their desk or at the library. Others use coffee, tea or energy drinks to stay away, sometime for days at a time. This is no different for Kuroo Testurou, a chemistry student studying at the second highest rank school in Tokyo.

The man lives off three hours of sleep, two cups of coffee in the morning, multiple energy drinks during the day, one last cup of coffee in the evening and uses tea to help him whenever he gets the chance. That is usually in the early hours of the morning.

Tonight however our hero has taken root in a local bookstore. There was a small café section for university students to buy a caffeine drink and study. It was a little odd, being open for twenty four hours a day. Only being closed on Friday and Saturday nights, all day on Sunday's.

Which brings Kuroo to a cold Tuesday night, the worker had already gotten to know him well over the past month he had been coming. With a cup of coffee already placed next to him, he finally finishes his second to last assignment. Contemplating wether or not he should just sleep or complete the last one, he looks up to stretch in his chair. When he notices it's not just him and the worker tonight.

The café only had two tables, Kuroo sat in the farthest left corner closest to the counter where costumers order their drinks. The other person was sitting closest to the door, staying far away from anyone else. A drink was at their table meaning they had to order at some point. Kuroo knows no one was there when he arrived. He shrugs and decides to sleep for the night. Ordering a tea to-go, he makes eye contract with the person as he reaches for the door. Giving them a friendly nod, he disappears into the early morning.

----

A week has pasted; Kuroo noticed the person had been coming at the around the time he normal does. They have been exchanging friendly smiles and eye contact during this time. No words have been spoke between them. The worker running the café laughs to himself about this, knowing all about how outgoing Kuroo can be.

The person walks into the store as he was ordering his last cup of coffee. He turned around to see them standing a little bit away from him, examining the menu. It would be awkward to not say anything, he justified to say something to them. "Their cold brews are good here too." He says with a small smile, earning a nod for a reply.

Kuroo made his way back to the usual table he sits at, immediately getting sucked into his textbook. He didn't even notice them taking his advice and ordering a cold brew. It was a little bit chilly outside that early morning but it wasn't a bad choice. They too get busy working on a paper due in two days, using the coffee to keep them alert.

When Kuroo finishes up his work, so does the mysterious person. They both exit the bookstore together, the person making small conversation as they walk. "So," they start, "your a university student right?"

"Yeah," Kuroo chuckles, "was it the coffee or the textbooks that gave it away?"

"The coffee for sure." They smile, "I'm (Full Name), nice to meet you." They hold out their hand for him to shake.

"Kuroo Testurou, it's nice to meet you too." He says while shaking their hand. "What are you studying?"

"I'm at (dream job) student at the university here. How about you?" (Y/n) replies.

"Chemistry major here too." He gives them a friendly smile. "Are you in dorms or...?"

"I am, you too?" (Y/n) asks.

"Sure am, guess we're headed in the same direction then." He answers and the conversation ended. It must have been too early in the morning since he couldn't come up with any other topics. (Y/n) didn't seem to mind, they were too tired to talk anymore. They said goodbye to each other as they parted ways.

----

The next evening (Y/n) arrived before Kuroo did. They turned around and saw him standing behind them. "Took your advice." They said and showed him their order, a cold brew coffee. Kuroo smiles back at them, already exhausted from his day. His work load from the beginning of the week has gone down but it's still overwhelming. He thought about just taking the night off, maybe waking up a tad bit earlier to get some of it done.

With his coffee in hand, he was on auto polite mode. Too busy thinking about his options that he missed the table he normal sat at. He slightly glanced over at (Y/n) and felt a sense of comfort. Kuroo was always the type that got close to people faster than others. He took a seat across from them and they looked up from their textbook.

They gave him a confused 'uh what are you doing? Are you okay?' look that snapped him back into reality.

"Oh wait..." He mumbles, "I'm so sorry." He makes an attempt to move but (Y/n) shakes their head.

"You don't have to move. Maybe you should get some rest, I can wake you up in an hour?" They suggest, moving their items so that he will have room to lay his head down.

"It's fine, I don't sleep without drinking some tea. And, uh," he holds up his cup, "this is coffee."

"I see." They reply, not sure what to say.

"But thanks for being concerned. It seems like uni doesn't care how much sleep it's students get huh?" He complains, really needing to blow off some steam.

(Y/n) picks up on this so they agree with him. "I'm a natural night owl but it get ridiculous. You pretty much got to work at least part time just to stay here."

He nods, "I'm lucky I don't have too. I can't imagine working and going to uni."

They chuckle, "it's not easy but you meet a lot of interesting people."

That sentence made Kuroo remember and old friend, he smiles genuinely. "Hearing you say that makes me think of an old friend."

"Oh..." They are sure what to say once again, "sorry."

Kuroo waves them off, "no no it's a good thing. We're still friends actually, he's still in high school. A senior this year actually." He seemed to have relax more after mentioning his friend. His eyes and facial expression softened.

Noticing this, (Y/n) asks him about his friend. Kuroo then talks about his old volleyball team in high school. As well as some other players from different schools. "And that owl loved receiving with his chest. I swear it did it every chance he could. Sometimes Kenma would purposely set it up so that I would hit it at him. It was funny whenever he failed though..." He mumbles the last part, loving the reactions he got out of (Y/n).

Their phone buzzed, an alarm was set. "Sorry to cut you off but I have to leave now." They say and start packing their things. "I have to work tomorrow so I really shouldn't stay up too late."

"Don't worry I understand." He smiles, "it was fun talking to you though." He stands up and waves goodbye to them.

"Yeah it was." They wave back and exit the store.

Kuroo lingers a little too long were he's standing before ordering his tea. "You should have walked with them." The worker tell him, handing his usually order. He likes to mix it up but the worker was determined to make Kuroo go after them.

"You must really think so." Kuroo chuckles and pays, "see you." He calmly walks out of the store before rushing down the street.

It as a clear night, not a cloud in sight. Which was good considering Kuroo isn't much of a fan when he comes to running in the rain. He catches up to them rather quickly, slowing down to make it seem like he wasn't in a hurry.

The redness in his cheeks gave him away instantly. "I was wondering if you were gonna come after me." (Y/n) teases, waiting at the cross walk for him.

"Shut up." He sighs, taking a sip of his tea.

"I would have done the same thing, don't worry." They nudge him when after he's drinking. "And I'm nice enough to not make you spill your tea."

Kuroo chuckles, "then I'll have to repay that kindness."

"I guess you will," (Y/n) smiles being sarcastic.

"How about dinner whenever you get off work tomorrow?" He suggests, "doesn't matter how late. I'll be catching up on school work until we meet anyway."

They shake their head but smile, "sounds good. Meet over at the café?"

He nods, "sure. See you then." They part ways for the night, both too excited for tomorrow to come.

Got to say it's nice writing about a 'love at first sight' type of thing. I don't think I've actually written one of those, if I have it's been too long. I like that there isn't too much dialogue like how there usually is, it's a nice change of pace.

I feel like I've gotten better at making the characters move around a be a bit more expressive but it still needs some work. This was sort of cut off but like I didn't know how to make them talk about the bookstore itself. Since, like, they both just do school work lol. I figured that they would talk about how they found the store whenever they go on their date. That's a little extra piece for those who read this.

With that I start my last year of high school tomorrow, hopefully I can keep posting. I didn't get a lot done over my break, actually wanted to have this book finished, but that's just how life goes. I'm getting closer and I'm having fun, that's what matters.

LOVE YOU GUYS
