Boruto X Fem! Reader (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations) {Growing Up} [Re-written]

This was the series that really started off my book back when it was first starting out. All the way back in 2017, just before the anime started airing and almost a year of the manga being published. I met a few other Boruto fans though this but have all left Wattpad or have changed their name, meaning I can no longer find them.

It's sad to see them off but then again I gave up on Boruto after volume six (I hated the anime since it started so-) and I never planned on picking it up again. I will one day because I'll always wonder how it ends, but since it is still ongoing, I will just have to try and read it again another day.

That being said this was written when I was 12 and 13, I am now 17. Yeah, it's been a very long time. I have grown a lot as a person and as a writer. But I will still be keeping the same plot and plot points, but smoothing it all out. I feel like I owe it to those who are reading this series now and to those who read the series in the past.

This will also be my last Boruto one shot. It feels very weird being almost an adult and writing about 12 year olds, which is another reason why I decided to rewrite this series.

Thank you all so much for your support over the last few years. I hope some of you will stick around a little longer.

Note: this is how certain 12 year olds acted back in my day, and Boruto has no official birthday that a quick search would tell me. Keep this information in your mind as you read.

It was a nice spring day, March 26th had finally arrived. The cherry blossom trees were in full bloom as the aspiring ninjas entered the academy. The teacher slides open the door and looks at all of his students. "Hey Boruto." He calls, earning the blondes attention. "Where's (Y/n) at?"

He shrugs in reply, "dunno. You know how she can be."

The door slides open. "Yo." (Y/n) greets her class.

"You're late again." Sinso sighs.

"Sure am." She takes her seat next to Boruto. Even if she showed up early it's not like she ever payed attention. Having the window seat is very distracting for her.

Right now, however, she has a scheme that has been set in motion. So her mind is constantly thinking about what her next move is.

"Oh yeah," she leans over and whispers to Boruto. "Happy birthday."

"Thanks." He smiles bitterly.

"Your dad?"

"Yeah I don't think he's coming home tonight. And now he doesn't even send his shadow clone." He looks more upset.

"We can hangout after school before you go home if you want." She offers, "get something to eat?"

He nods, "yeah we can. Everyone else is busy tonight though."

As the school day slowly comes to a close, "I'll go see what places looks the best. Meet me at the tree close to your house, you know the one."

When the teacher left the room, finally, (Y/n) made her escape out the window.

"(Y/n) left again?" Shinso looks at Boruto.

"Never know with her." He chuckles and class continues.

----

"Honestly, Lord Seven, how can you be so slow!?"

"Aren't you the one who's late!?" He argues back.

"That teacher wouldn't leave! I just can't let him watch me jump out the window." (Y/n) and the hokage bicker until they reached his house.

"Dad!" Himawari jumps into his arms.

"Thank you for agreeing to this." (Y/n) greets his mother, Hinata.

"Thank you for bringing us all together. Boruto is luck to have you." She smiles and sees her son walking towards the tree.

The moment all of them are within his sight, he breaks into a sprint. And being the young pre-teen he is, (Y/n) is tackled to the ground.

"Thank you!" He says over and over again.

"Of course what are friends for." She chuckles and shoves him off, slightly embarrassed. "Enjoy your day. I'll see you tomorrow."

This was a crucial moment in their relationship. Both of them had the same thought: "I like my best friend-"

----

"Are you ever going to man up and confess?" Shikadai asks, noticing Boruto's glances at (Y/n).

"Who says 'confess' now?" He mocks, "it doesn't matter what I do anyway."

"Sure until she moves on and finds someone better." Inojin adds, backing Shikadai. "What are you waiting for? She clearly likes you so shoot your shot."

On the other side of this conversation, "you two are dating!" Sarada slams her fist on the table.

"Keep your voice down." (Y/n) sighs and weakly smiles at the other costumers who turned to look at them. "And we aren't. Can't you let it go already?"

The boys heard them and look over across the fast food restaurant. "Hey!" Shikadai waves them over.

"Now look at what you've done." (Y/n) chuckles as Sarada face palms.

"I was so close too..." She mutters to herself.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night. Come on let's join them."

And so the two groups merged, the topic remained the same.

"Look you two both like each other." Inojin tries to approach this in a calm way compared to the others.

"For the past three years-" Sarada adds.

"Wait." Shikadai stops them, "they're sitting next to each other. Show us your hands."

The two in question look at each other and sigh. (Y/n) holds up their hands, fingers laced together with each other's. "About a year ago." She says, leaving everyone stund.

"What did you guys bet on it or something?" Boruto teases, "if so I want part of it."

"No Sarada said it wouldn't be a good idea." Inojin said, "I would have won too..."

"So wait were you ever gonna tell us?" Shikadai said, "and why keep it a secret?"

"I didn't want to risk my parents finding out. They have too many connections and are very strict about the no dating rule." (Y/n) explained, "I'm sorry for not telling any of you. Don't be mad at Boruto-"

"We're not mad." Sarada interrupts her. "And you shouldn't be apologizing, we should."

The group talked some more before leaving. On the walk back home, it was only Boruto and (Y/n) left. "Soooooo..." He starts, "can I tell my parents about us?"

She thinks for a minute too long, not answering his question. She was trying to find a way to avoid it.

"No?" He asks.

"No." She confirms, "it's not you. It's really not..." She panics a little. There are too many possibilities for her to make the right choice.

Boruto and his families bond has gotten stronger over the past few years. Keeping this from them must be hurting him. With this thought playing over and over again in (Y/n)'s mind, "okay you can tell them."

"Really?!" He almost jumps up from excitement. She takes his hand and squeezes it.

"Really."

----

"You cannot date her." Naruto, Boruto's father, says.

"Naruto-" His mother tries to interject.

"He can't." He says firmly.

"That girl isn't dangerous. In fact-"

He glares at his wife and she looks over at her children. "Let's talk about this somewhere else."

"Wait-" Boruto thinks he has caused them to fight.

His mother ruffles his hair to reassure him. "Go up stairs with your sister."

Once they heard his door close, and checked to see if they are listening in on their conversation, they start again.

"Naruto, she has done nothing wrong to hurt our son or family. What she did years ago helped us when we needed it most. And has shown everyone her family name means nothing."

"That's what we thought about them too."

"They've been dating for awhile now anyway-"

"What!?" He yells.

"Oblivious as always..." Hinata sighs. "I've been keeping a close eye on them. Everything is fine and will stay that way. Just be supportive." She walks away from the table to comfort her kids.

----

Everything was black for Boruto. Small flashes of light followed by muffled voices. He felt the warmth of someone else's touch on his arm and the top of his head. This feeling kept him from slipping away.

"Stay with me!" (Y/n) cries as Sarada and Shiakdai come running down the street. Tears were flooding down her face as her friends gathered around her. It was pure coincidence that one of Lord Seventh's shadow clones was out patrolling the area.

Sarada calls the clone over and his eyes widen. "Get my mother, please. Quickly." She tells him in a calm voice, "before you tell the hokage."

"Right." The clone made his way.

"Let's go." She grabs (Y/n) arm. "We need to take him to the hospital."

"Y-yeah." She shakes off her nervousness the best she could and carries him. Sarada's mother, Sakura, meets them at the front door.

"I was just about to find you guys." She takes Boruto into her arms. "Follow me and tell me what happened. Slowly."

"It's my birthday so we were all going out to eat. Boruto and I were hanging out before we met up with everyone. Someone covered in all red clothing attacked us. Everything is a blur until Boruto fell to the ground." (Y/n) lets out a shaky sigh. "Next thing I knew he wouldn't wake up."

"Wake outside for a moment, I'll get him back to normal." Sakura reassurances the group, making her way into an operating room.

(Y/n) paced back and forth in the hallway while Sarada and Shikadai sat on a bench. It wasn't until Boruto's family came running down the hall. Shikadai explains what had happened to them for the girl. And they all waited until Sakura came out, Hinata convinced herself and Naruto to wait outside.

When Boruto woke up, (Y/n) waited outside as everyone else went to see him. She stayed there for an hour beating herself up for what happened. Shikadai convinced her to see him when everyone left.

He would have to stay overnight but refused to let anyone stay with him. "You know how he is now. He doesn't want to bother anyone so he's making all of us leave." Shikadai explains.

"Okay then..." She mutters. His family talked to her for a bit before giving into Boruto's wishes. Leaving just before midnight, about ten minutes until.

(Y/n) open the hospital door with a shaky hand, Boruto greets her with a smile. "Hey, I was wondering when you were gonna see me."

"Yeah..." She closes the door, "look I'm sorry about what happened-"

He shakes his head, "stop beating yourself up over it. It's not your fault, you didn't plan it. Someone else must have. Come here." He holds out his hand.

She takes a seat next to the bed and laces their fingers together. "I didn't miss your birthday, right?" Boruto asks and smiles.

(Y/n) looks around to find a clock, "nope still got some time." When she turns back to look at him, she notices his facial expression. He looks relieved but it's something else too.

When midnight rolled around he squeezes her hand and the conversation stops. "Happy Birthday." She figures out his facial expression is natural, and that she's seen it many times before. But only when Boruto is looking at her. Tonight she figured out what this looks means, he really is in love with her.

----

"Well I love you, and you love me, so why not?" (Y/n) questions.

"This is marriage we're talking about here." Boruto groans, running his fingers through his hair. "It's kind of a big deal."

"Only if you want it to be." She says, "you want a big wedding don't you?"

"Well my father is the Hokage." He counters, "but no. It'll just turn into a political thing."

"Okay..." She grins, "so you do want to get married?"

"I always told myself I would get married young or not at all." He says, "but yes I'll marry you."

Word spread throughout the village about the news. Many people in Naruto's generation were against the idea. Often talking to him about it. Inojin and Shikadai's parents defend (Y/n) just like Hinata did years ago.

Boruto found out after a group of people begged him to stay away from (Y/n). He confronted her about it, "what's wrong with us being together?" He rants to her in their small apartment. "It's never caused any problems before-"

"It has." (Y/n) interrupts him. "Could you sit down for a moment?"

"Huh?"

"Please." He follows her wishes. "You've never met my parents before, right? Never seen them with your eyes or heard their voice with your ears. About a year after that time I helped through you a birthday party, my parents were sent to prison."

Boruto's eyes widen, "I thought you said they were..." He trails off trying to remember. She had always answered him whenever he asked questions about them. Or why he hadn't gotten the chance to meet.

"A few years ago they were traveling merchants who left me here so I could live out my dream of becoming a ninja. Then they were out traveling the world and send me letters of where they are at. I can't even remember what else I told you." She takes a seat next to him. "But you can meet them. They won't be friendly at all... so the choice is yours."

Boruto thinks, "did they ever hurt you?"

"No. They never hurt me. Others though, constantly." (Y/n) says, "I mean like yeah it hurts that they did that to so many people and it had an affect on me too-"

He places a hand on top of hers to remind her to breath. "I'll meet them."

"Are you serious?" She laughs nervously.

"I might have to meet them in the future anyway."

"Boruto," she looks him dead in the eye. "I know I said this is your choice to make, but they are the ones who sent that person years ago. The day before my birthday, remember? I bet my parents wanted you dead. They are the reason why no one trusts me, why everyone tells you to stay away from me."

He stands up, "and when I know what they look like I'll fight them off. Besides you met mine, I want to meet yours."

(Y/n) sighs and grabs her coat. "Fine then but I won't be going in with you."

"That's fine." He says, "let's go."

(Y/n) waited outside the prison until Boruto came back out. "Did you meet them?"

He chuckles, "yep. Meet them, exchanged greetings and they wished me dead."

"Sounds just like them." (Y/n) forces a laugh. "Look we really don't have to get married-"

"But I want too." He cuts her off. It's slowly becoming a habit now. "And you already proposed. All we need now are two rings."

They walked about what kind of wedding they could have. Boruto was more worried about the layout and flowers than (Y/n) was. Talked about a guest list, who would be standing there with them.

When they got back into the apartment, "you still love me?" (Y/n) asks.

Boruto laughs, "after all we've been through, after all these years," he holds out his hand. She takes it and is pulled into a hug. "Of course I still love you. It'll take a lot to change that."

It's the morning of when this book is finished as I am done writing this. I have a very busy day ahead and this was one of the most import things.

This is far better than whatever I was trying to write years ago. The very last Boruto one shot I will ever write, it's strange writing all these characters again. I only used the ones I did in the series but added in a few extra scenes to help explain what is happening.

Since before I was making it up as I went along. All the other parts except for the first one was someone asking me to write another part. And I did without thinking much about it. As you could probably tell I never went back and edited any of it with the exception of part one. Since that's the only one I can read without almost dying of cringe.

With that this is last one shot I am writing for this book.

Thank you all so much for supporting me for the past five years of my life. And for ignoring all the horrible one shots at the beginning of this book. I was twelve when I started it and I'm now seventeen ending it.

I really, truly, love you guys so much.
