You/Violet Evergarden - Calm

(Violet Evergarden)

Prompt by: Kenjiro-Kun

Per her usual introduction, Violent bowed as you opened the door.

"If it is your wish, I will travel anywhere to meet you. I am an Auto Memory Doll. Violet Evergarden at your service."

Both of your attentions are drawn to your maid as she made her way over to you.

"Ms. (l/n)! You know that you're not supposed to open the door. You never know who it could be knocking." She gently pushes you behind her back as she takes you spot. "And who might you be?"

Again, Violet bows to introduce herself.

"If it is your wish, I will travel anywhere to meet you. I am an Auto Memory Doll. Violet Evergarden at your service."

"Ah, the doll. It's about time that you arrive. Come in." Violet grabs her bag and follows the two of you inside. "I'm Gretchen Severus. This is Ms. (full name). She was the one to request for you. You must be tired from your journey. I'll lead you to your room."

Violet watches as she leads you to the couch and hands you a thick book that appears to have no letters. She's confused as she sees you trace the page with your finger.

"What did you hand her?"

She asks as the two of them make her way to the guest room.

"It's a book. Haven't you seen one of them before?" Gretchen stops at a door and opens it for Violet. "Here we are. Let me know if you need anything. Please do not disturb Ms. (l/n)."

"Thank you, Gretchen. I'll see the two of you tomorrow morning."

Gretchen nods and leaves her alone.

Morning comes and you're already waiting for Violet at the dining table.

"Good morning, Ms. (l/n)."

You nod at the direction of where you heard her voice and motion to the spot in front of you. Violet takes it as an invitation to join you for breakfast. The two of you quietly eat breakfast, the only sounds that can be heard are of the utensils. Gretchen occasionally comes out of the kitchen and refills your drinks until you're both done.

"Where will you like to work on your letter, Ms. (l/n)."

"If it's alright with you, Ms. (l/n) would like to work on it outside."

Gretchen answer for you.

"That is fine with me. I'll go get my typewriter so we can get started."

"I'll be here to help Ms. (l/n) with her words. Don't mind me."

"Of course. I'm ready whenever you'd like to start."

It takes you a while to start talking. Violet doesn't comment as you struggle to get your words out. She just types at your pace. Gretchen occasionally finishes your sentences when Violet asks you to repeat yourself. Being around your for so long, Gretchen had gotten quite fluent in the way you communicated so it was easy for her to understand.

"I think that is enough for today. Dinner will be ready in an hour. If you'll excuse us."

You do a small bow to Violet before leaving the room with Gretchen. She watched the two of you with curiosity, wondering how Gretchen was able to understand you so easily. Once the two of you disappear around the corner, Violet cleans up her area to head back to her room.

The days passed by in the same manner. She would wake up, join you for breakfast, work on the letter for a couple of hours and then join you for dinner. Violet didn't like to get into people's business but she couldn't help but be curious about how you had become blind. You mentioned parts of the story in the letter but it was never in full detail. All she knew was that you were forgiving someone about what they had done.

She decides to ask you after one of your dinners.

"How did you become blind, Ms. (l/n)?"

"That is not something you should be asking, Ms. Evergarden! Have you no manners!? Isn't that one of the things they teach you at the doll school..."

You hold up your hand to stop her from continuing any further.

"Fine. Do...don't be so ang...y, G..etch"

Violet was generously curious, she didn't mean to be rude. You give her a small smile, hoping to let her know that it was alright. You take your time to explain what happened as it was a little difficult for you to recall what happened. It had been so long since you've thought about the accident. When you're done, you excuse yourself to not cry in front of Violet. Violet just watches you leave, ignoring the little voice that was telling her to follow after you.

"I think that we should take today as a break. Thinking about the accident is a painful reminder to Ms. (l/n)."

"Of course. I did not mean to upset her. Please let her know that I'm sorry."

Gretchen nods and leaves Violet alone.

Night arrives and Violet is unable to sleep. She's unsure of why she keeps twisting and turning but she has a feeling that it has something to do with what happened at dinner. She sighs and closes her eyes, attempting to get some sleep when she suddenly hears quiet humming. She thinks it's all in her mind but it starts to get a little louder. Curious to see what it was, Violet goes out to investigate.

She follows the noise all the way to an open window. When she pokes her head out, she spots you laying down on the room as you hum a tune that she had never heard of before. It's quite soothing and brings back memories of her with the Major.

You stop humming when you hear someone crying. There was only one person that wouldn't freak out if they saw you on the roof. Wanting to comfort her, you carefully make your way over. You climb back inside and have her sit besides you on the floor. Unsure of how to comfort someone, you search for her hand to hold.

"I may not know. . .the reason for your cries, but I do know. . ." You whisper to her, speaking clearly for the first time. "That it will feel nice when it's all over." You gently push Violet's head to your shoulder as you squeeze her hand in comfort. "So cry."

Overwhelmed by her emotions, Violet cries harder by your side.
