TW: Death

"I'm a little busy, Gojo. What do you want?"

You dodge the curse's several attacks and then ran for cover while trying to listen to what Gojo what saying.

"...so you need to be here."

"I'm sorry. What did you say?"

"The games are next week! You need to be here! Utahime will be here."

"You deal with the games. I'm busy."

"Hellooooo? You didn't hear me say that Utahime was going to be here?"

"Why should I care that she's going to be there? She hates us."

He lets out a loud groan before answering.

"I might wear a blindfold but you really are blind. Utahime hates me but she loves you. Like she's in love with you. Do I need to...."

"Gojo!" You yell at him as you barely dodge another to the curse's attack. "I'll be there. Just stop bothering me! I'm busy."

"Yes! Don't worry about a thing. I'll take....."

He trails off when he realizes you had already hung up on him. The first step to his plan of getting the two of you together was complete.

"Soooo. The two of you are semi-grades 1. Maybe you should..."

"I'm too busy for anything."

"I prefer to work alone."

The two answer at the same time. Gojo laughs and turns to look at the screen of the event.

"It was just a suggestion."

You turn to glare at him when you see Utahime was focused on the screen. He raised his brows at you in a suggestive manner and you flipped him off.

"If the two of you could stop messing around. That will be nice."

Utahime tells the two of you. Both of you apologize and focus your attention on the screen.

After the attack, the rest of the events were postponed for another day. You've been talking to Gojo about what had happened when Utahime decided to join the two of you.

"We have an event tomorrow. The two of you shouldn't be out here so late."

You opened your mouth to answer but Gojo beat you to it.

"We're used to working long hours! 12AM is nothing. Is there an actual reason as to why you're giving us curfew."

"Well I just want the game to be fair. The two of you are going to be tired. I'm just trying to make sure that we beat you fair and square. Do whatvever the two of you want to do!"

She turns around and storms off back to where the Kyoto students were staying.

"You see. I don't know why you won't believe me. She clearly likes you. There was no reason for her to interrupt us unless she wanted me away from you."

"Whatever. I don't have time to deal with your theories. I've already accepted that Utahime doesn't like me. Why can't you just leave it be, Gojo?"

You rolled your eyes and began to walk back to your room.

"Looking for someone?"

Utahime jumps up in surprise when Gojo suddenly shows up behind her.

"What? You're not supposed to be here!"

"I know! I'm just here to give you an update since a player is missing."

"Who?"

Utahime asks, despite already knowing that you were the one missing. Gojo refrains from smiling when he hears the concern in her voice.

"(y/n). She was called away on a mission so I'm stepping in for my team." He starts to make his way back to the Tokyo students but suddenly stops. "Also! She told me that she wants to talk to you when she comes back."

"What? why?"

"Dunno. It did sound super important though. I'm sure she'll give you a call when she returns."

"Wait, Gojo!"

He waves her off as he continues on his way.

Utahime silently cursed Gojo for making her out to be a fool. She could already picture him laughing at her. After being almost 10 minutes late to the agreed spot to meet, Utahime pulled her phone out to call him.

"Sorry. It took longer than expected when I informed everyone."

She frowns when she doesn't hear his usual playful tone. Everything was a game to him so this was out of character.

"Informed everyone. Is this about what you called me?"

"I apologize for not telling you over the phone but I thought you would want to see her one last time."

"What the hell are you talking about Gojo? What is going on?"

He sighs tiredly before looking up at the sky.

"(y/n) is dead. We got bad intel about the type of curses that would be at the location. By the time we realized it was wrong, we ended up arriving too late. They overpowered her and she succumbed to her wounds."

Utahime close her hands into fists, her knuckles nearly turning white from the strength of her grip.

"If this is another joke..."

"I know my track record isn't the best but I wouldn't joke to you about this. Come on. Shoko is preparing her body for the funeral." He starts to walk, assuming Utahime would join him but she doesn't. When he realizes that she isn't following him, he stops. "What?"

"I'm not going. There's no reason for me to see her."

"She's not here anymore, Utahime. You don't have to hide your feelings from her anymore."

"I know! I know she's not here anymore!"

She yells at him out of frustration. You were dead and she had never told you how she felt. You probably died thinking she hated you after the way she acted around you.

Gojo doesn't say anything about her outburst. He just places a comforting hand on her shoulder before he continued back to where you were currently being held at.

"I'll tell you where she'll be laid to rest."

Even after receiving the directions of your last resting place, Utahime refused to believe it. She was hoping Gojo would pull another one of his pranks like he had done with his students. She wouldn't put it past him to do something like this just to get her to confess.

After making the long trek across the cemetery, Utahime's eyes landed on your name engraved on a headstone. She let out a loud sob when she realized Gojo hadn't been lying. You were really gone.

Forcing her tears back, Utahime laid her flowers in front of your headstone. She closed her eyes and let it rest against your name. Uttering a silent prayer, she hoped you would forgive her for being a coward. Maybe if she hadn't been in denial, she could've joined you on the mission and you wouldn't be dead.
