(Seraph of the End)

After taking the last of the horsemen out, Shinoa made her way to Yu.

"This is why I tell you to not take off without us. You could've gotten killed."

"Was I just supposed to let that kid die?! I had to spring into action!"

Shinoa just shakes her head and turns around to inspect the rest of her team.

"Don't force me to suspend you for our next mission."

"You can't do that! You need me......"

Shinoa paid no attention to what Yu had to say, knowing that he would just go on and on about how he had been justified in his actions.

"Where's (y/n)?"

With the rest of the team finally having a chance to breathe and look around, they noticed you weren't around. Being the team's medic, you were always the first to make sure that no one was mission before taking care of their wounds.

"She was with me just a few minutes ago."

Yoichi says. Realizing that you were now missing, the rest of the team joins him in searching for you. Unable to find you in their vicinity, they split to search the nearby buildings for you. An hour later and they return empty handed to their rendezvous.

"I'm sorry, Shinoa. We couldn't find her."

Mitsuba tells her when she returns. Yu, Yoichi and Shiho return with the same news. Shinoa nods and thanks them for their efforts to find you.

"We need to meet up with the rest of the company. When we finish our mission, we'll return to search for her."

"Shinoa, we can afford to stay a couple of more hours to search for her. We don't have to leave right away."

"Yeah, Mitsuba is right. (y/n) must be around here. We're not leaving without her, Shinoa."

Shinoa didn't want to leave but as the commander for the unit, she had a duty to carry out orders. Then again as commander, she also had a duty to return with all her unit. You were missing, not dead.

"We'll stay but we need to leave before night falls. Guren expects us back at the base in the morning, understand?"

They all nodded and began to make a map of the area to search and keep track of where they had already checked.

Night was beginning to fall and there was still no sign of you. The team didn't want to give up on their search and neither did Shinoa but she knew they would all get in trouble if they didn't return now.

"I'm calling off the search. There's no point in us searching anymore. We've searched all the nearby buildings and she's gone. We need to head back."

"We can't just leave her! Guren will understand!"

Yu didn't want to leave. If he had only been more careful then the team wouldn't have sprung into battle. You wouldn't be missing and all of you would've already been back in the base.

"You've already disobeyed my orders plenty of times, Yu. If you don't want me to write you up then I suggest that you shut up and start heading back."

Yu stared at her for the longest time, wanting to say something but he knew now was not the time. He just nods and follows the others to head back to base.

Shinoa looked back to where they had been searching, hoping that you would suddenly appear.

"Shinoa? Are you alright?"

She turns around, finding the unit staring at her.

"I'm fine. Lets head back."

When they returned, Shinoa had been chewed out for not returning sooner. She apologizes and takes full responsibility so that team isn't reprimanded.

"You know better than to waste time and search for someone that is long gone. Why did you break protocols?"

"We were dating. I couldn't leave without her."

Guren shakes his head, disappointed that Shinoa hadn't listened to him. He had warned her to not start anything with you and yet she didn't listen.

"I warned you about this. Since you can't seem to put your emotions aside to command your unit, Mitsuba will take over your position. You'll get it back when I can see that you're capable of leading."

You stood besides Mika, looking down at the rest of the vampires as they crowded around the army. He had been assigned as your keeper to make sure you didn't run off to join the humans.

"How do you do it? How can you just watch them kill humans?"

"I don't care for them. There's only one person..."

"Yeah, yeah. You only care about Yu. I already told you that he's still alive and yet you refuse to search for him."

"I can't risk it. If I don't return when they're done with their mission, they'll know where I've gone and hunt us down. I need to be patient just like you have to be."

"Shinoa must believe that I'm dead. I can't help but think if that's better than her knowing that I've turned into a vampire."

The two of you are interrupted as you're forced to join the fight.

Months pass by with you waiting patiently for a chance to run into Shinoa. There were times where you were tempted to take off and search for her but Mika always calmed you down. The time were you had least expected to find her managed to be the time were you spotted her and your old squad attempting to escape.

Both you and Mika spring into action, taking down as many vampires as you can to clear a path for them to escape. When they see an opening, they make a run for the nearest building to hide.

Just like Mika, you weren't fully turned as you refused a drop of human blood. You survived by taking Krul's blood to satiate your hunger. With the energy you used and the amount of injuries you had sustained while clearing a path, the two of you were barely holding up. Both of you waited until Shinoa and her squad disappeared before taking off as well.

When you're sure that you're not being followed, you lead Mika to where you had seen Shinoa take cover. As soon as you step inside the building, the two of you have weapons at you. You immediately drop your sword and hold up your hands.

"I...I'm not here to hurt you."

You say out of breath. You fall to your knees, unable to keep yourself upright anymore.

"(y/n)!"

Shinoa kneels beside you, looking you over to see the injuries you had sustained.

"I finally found you..."

You whisper, giving her a tired smile. She quiets you down as she attempts to deal with your attempts.

"Why aren't you healing? You're supposed to be healing"

You're barely holding on to your conscious so you couldn't speak anymore.

"She needs blood. We ran out of the blood we use to avoid drinking the blood of a human."

Mika explains as he watches you struggle to remain awake.

"Then drink my blood! You need to heal! I'm not losing you again."

You shake your head, refusing to drink her blood. You didn't want to fully become the thing you hated.

"You're going to die, you idiot! Just drink my blood." With your refusal, Shinoa cut herself to tempt you. "I'm willingly offering you my blood. I don't do this for just anyone."

The smell of her blood was intoxicating. You weren't able to hold yourself back as she leaned her head to the side, telling you to drink. Stuck in a trance, you sunk your teeth on her neck and began to drink.

When you pull back, you find Shinoa had closed her eyes. You panic, thinking you had drunk too much.

"Shinoa! Shinoa! I'm so sorry! I....."

"I'm fine." She says to calm you down. "Just a bit tired."

You let out a sigh of relief as you wrap your arms around her.

"Go to sleep. I'll keep you safe."

Feeling safe in your arms, Shinoa closes her eyes to rest. She knew she had responsibilities but for now she was going to enjoy being in your arms after losing you for almost a year.
