(High-Rise Invasion)

Mayu found it unnerving to see you act like a robot. Out of the two of you, you were the one who had the most emotion. It killed her that they hadn't been able to turn off your programming. 

"We'll figure out a way to save her Mayu."

"I wasn't...."

Yuri gives her a small smile as she takes a seat besides Mayu. The two of them watched as you repacked their bags to head out. 

"You were thinking about her. Just like you've been thinking about her since you reunited with her."

Mayu sighs, turning around to face Yuri. 

"I'm sorry. I just.....I don't know. It kills me that she's like that. We don't even know if we'll be able to bring her back. Her reprogramming failed once, it can fail again."

Yuri wrapped an arm around Mayu and pulled her closer to her. 

"I promise. We'll figure something out."

Yuri laid wide awake as she remembered how distraught Mayu had been earlier. Mayu wanted to bring you back but you didn't want to return. She had a choice to make and it worried her that whatever choice she made, Mayu would hate her. After all, she had lied to Mayu about your reprogramming and what had happened inside your conscious. 

Yuri made sure that Mayu was still sleeping before making her way to where you were sitting. 

"This is all your fault, (y/n). Why can't you see that your decision is hurting Mayu." Yuri tells you in a bitter tone. It annoyed her that you just had a blank stare as she talked to you. She could always go back into your conscious but it worried her that Mayu might catch her. "Stop being a fucking coward! Mayu needs you. She needs us."  She grabbed on to your shirt and shook you in an attempt to get a response but you just continued to stare ahead. "I can't do this anymore. I can't do this to Mayu. She's done so much for me."

Wiping her tears, she touches your forehead and closes her eyes.

"I told you that I didn't want to return...."

Yuri doesn't hesitate to slap you, stopping you from talking any further from the shock. 

"Fuck you! Mayu needs us. You keep saying about how you did this for Mayu but she doesn't want this. She doesn't like seeing you act like a fucking robot. She told me about how the two of you used to be best friends. The decent thing you could do is go back to her and be there for her as a friend."

"Yuri, I..." You let out a sigh as you stared at the girl. You hated that she was right. "I'll go back."

"You will?" Yuri asks surprised that you had agreed so easily. She had expected for you to put up more of a fight. "Just like that?"

"Yes. I was a robot but I could still hear and see everything around me. I saw how I was hurting Mayu. I need to go back."

The two of you wake up to find Mayu had fallen asleep on your other side. You're about to wake her up but Yuri stops her. 

"I'll take her back to bed. She needs to rest. Your little reunion can wait until tomorrow." You nod and watch as she bends down to carry Mayu. "You're telling her that this was your fault. I'm not getting in trouble because you were being an idiot." 

"I will. Goodnight, Yuri."

She bids you goodnight and heads back to where they had been staying. This time it doesn't take long for her to fall asleep.

Yuri grabs her gun and rushes outside when she hears Mayu scream. When she gets outside, she finds the two of you hugging. As she coughs, you immediately disentangle yourself from Mayu and take a step back. The last thing you wanted was to get on Yuri's bad side. 

"It worked this time! Thank you, Yuri! Thank you for not giving up on her."

Yuri gives you a questioning look when Mayu tackles her into a hug. 

'Later' You mouth to her

It's not until a few days later when the two of you are left alone as Mayu goes to the bathroom. 

"What did you tell her?"

"I told her that you kept attempting to wake me up since I met up with the two of you."

"You didn't tell her the truth?"

"There was no reason to. Telling the truth will just make her upset."

"Mayu deserves to know the truth! You need to tell her."

"She's going to hate me if I tell her the truth! I don't want to lose her again."

Just then, Mayu steps out of the bathroom.

"Tell me what?"

"M...Mayu, I didn't mean to...."

"Tell me what!? Don't make me repeat myself."

"I could've come back when the two of you first entered my mind but I didn't want to come back.  I forced Yuri to tell you that the reprogramming didn't actually work. I only came back because Yuri begged for me to return."

Mayu was furious to learn this. She had worried over nothing when you could've come back at anytime. She scoffs and turns her back to you. 

"Maybe you should've just stayed an Angel."

"Mayu, I did this for you! I didn't want to hurt you. I had already caused you so much pain."

"You didn't do this for me. You did this for yourself because you've always been a coward. You just didn't want to face me."

You reached to take her hand but Yuri got in between. 

"Don't make this worse that it already is. Lets just be civil so we can get out of here."

You looked over Yuri's shoulder and sighed when you saw Mayu was already walking away. 

"Yeah. You're right."

Yuri nods and joins Mayu's side to comfort her. You wanted to turn around and put a distance as far away from the two of them but you decided to stick around. You needed to keep Mayu safe.
