TW: Death, Suicide

Mahiru watched your chest rise up and down as you peacefully slept. She wanted to reach out and caress you but she knew of how much of a light sleeper you were. It killed her that she couldn't be with you the way she wanted to be. She had the devotion and love of others but not yours. At times, it often felt like you hated her and she wasn't sure why. She hadn't done anything to upset or hurt you. She had plenty of chances to do so but she never did. It was getting to the point that if you didn't return her feelings, she was going to take extreme measures.

With a sad sigh, she quietly grabs one of your sleep shirts and hurries back to her room. There, she changed into your shirt and was comforted by your scent. It wouldn't be long before you would be in her arms.

Before she could even walk into the training room, Mahiru could immediately hear your laugh. She smiled for a briefest second before it fell when she heard the laugh of two others. Walking inside, she saw you talking to Guren and Shinya. It made her blood boil to see them with you.

"Mahiru! You're late. We were going to get started without you."

"Seems like you already did." She muttered under her breath. "Then lets not wait any longer. Lets get started."

She said with a smile.

Shinya was struggling to catch his breath as Mahiru continued to attack him despite him calling a timeout. He knew that she had heard it and it almost felt like she was using more force in her attacks.

"Mahiru!"

"What? Can't take it, Shinya?"

Something wasn't right. This wasn't the same kind and sweet Mahiru that he knew.

"TIME-OUT!"

He yelled, desperate to stop the fight again. He thinks it had worked this time but she ultimately goes for the strike. He barely has time to block it. The tip of her sword just barely cut his cheek.

"Shinya!"

Mahiru actually stops when she hears you from behind. You ran past her to make sure that Shinya was okay.

"What the hell where you thinking Mahiru? You could've killed him."

Guren says as he moves to stand beside her. If he wasn't so focused on making sure that you didn't need any help, he could've seen the disappointment on her face.

"But I didn't."

On the next training session, you switched partners with Mahiru. Shinya was now your sparring partner while Guren had Mahiru. Much like the session with Shinya, Mahiru ignored Guren's call for a time-out. You had to physically intervene to stop her attacks.

"I'm sorry! I didn't realize he had said anything."

The three of you didn't say anything about her lie. It was obvious that she had every intention of hurting Guren.

"Just be careful next time, Mahiru. You could've seriously hurt him."

You tell her as you and Shinya helped Guren walk out. Mahiru remained in the room, watching the three of you walk away. She couldn't hold herself back anymore. She needed to have you and the two of them where in her way.

The next training session isn't held for another two weeks. However, it's just Mahiru, Guren and Shinya.

"Where's (y/n)?"

Guren asks. He wasn't even sure why he asked, he knew that Mahiru would lie.

"She said that she wasn't feeling well. Are you ready to start? I'm anxious to stretch out my muscles after these two weeks."

"I think we should cancel..."

Shinya starts to say but is cut off by Mahiru attacking.

" Oh no! I'm not wasting another opportunity like this. Try to fight back, you're not going to win!" Even with the two of them fighting together, they struggled to hold back Mahiru. Neither of them wanted to hurt her and they couldn't even if they wanted to. Mahiru was surprisingly stronger than before. They tried to reason with her, hoping they could calm her down but she seemed to be on a warpath for some reason. It only took less than 20 minutes for her to beat them. They were covered in cuts and bruises while Mahiru remained without any injuries. "Now you're going to pay for getting in my way."

"What the hell...."

"NO!"

It all happened so fast. Mahiru brought her sword down to finally end the lives of the men who you paid more attention to but you got in the way. It had been pointless for you to even get in the way, nothing was gonna stop her sword from slicing them. The only difference was that you got caught in the mess.

Mahiru immediately drops her sword and makes her way over to stop the bleeding. She paid no attention to Guren and Shinya as she held you close.

"I'm sorry! I..I didn't mean to!"

"....Ge..t.....a..w.."

You couldn't speak. You choked on your own blood as your heart began to slow down. Mahiru started to cry as you continued to bleed out. Her attempts to save you were pointless as they just covered her in your blood. It didn't take long for you to bleed out. Your eyes remained open when your heart beat for the last time. She finally had you in her arms but not in the way she wanted to.

You were gone and there was no point for her to continue to live. Especially not when she couldn't get the angry look you gave her as she held you.

Through her tears, she reached for her sword to take her own life. She closed her eyes and released the demon inside her cursed weapon.

"I can help you." She felt it hug her from behind to reach over to touch you but Mahiru slapped their hands away. The demon laughed and moved to stand over the two of you. "I can make it so that she's always with you. She'll live and have nowhere else to go but stay by your side. Isn't that what you wanted? For her to you yours?"

"What do you want if I accept your deal?"

"I just want to fuse with her. I get stronger and she gets to live. When you're able to find a way to bring her back to life, I'll separate myself. Her body will remain safe in the gear."

"Do it. Save her."

The demon smile and fused themselves with you. Immediately, your injury began to heal. Once it was done, the demon fused with you returned to the sword. As she held it up to the light, it changed color from black to the color of your eyes. Despite being unable to hold you for the moment, Mahiru was happy to know that she could eventually be able to do so one day.

The deaths of Guren, Shinya and your disappearance was covered up by the military. Mahiru moved up the ranks of the military without any repercussion of what she had done. No one even questioned about the change of her cursed gear.

"Mahiru! You're back!

The memories of your life erased. All you knew was that you were a demon that had sworn to protect the woman who wielded your sword.

"I said that I would be back, didn't I?"

Mahiru closed her eyes as you pulled her into a tight hug. It wouldn't be long before she could feel the real thing.
