You/Isabella - Help

There's a knock at your door and a second letter, Grandmother walks in.

"Pack your things. You're being assigned to Plantation 3."

You weren't fit to be a Mama but you were good at being a sister. You weren't a leader but you made sure that everyone followed them as well as yourself.

"May I ask why? Plantation 3 has one of the best Mama's from what I hear."

"Isabella will fill you in all the details. We don't have time to waste so hurry up. Meet my at the gates in 10 minutes."

There was hardly anything for you to pack but your uniforms and several personal items that they had allowed you to keep. Once done, you headed out to meet with Grandmother.

Isabella greeted you with a warm smile as she met up with the two of you. Grandmother explained a few things to the two of you and then went back inside the cave.

"It's nice to meet you, Sister (y/n), Grandmother says that you're one of the best."

Your cheeks redden, not used to getting compliments.

"I wouldn't say that. I just do my job."

"A lot of women do their job but don't do it well. If Grandmother says that you're one of the best then I'd like to believe she's right about you. Lets hurry up and get back to the house. I have a lot of things to discuss with you and we wouldn't want for one of the kids to wonder around."

X

Isabella had explained everything that had occurred before she called in for help. You were honestly surprised that several of her kids had learned the truth and were planning on escaping.

"For now, we'll just pretend that you're here to gain experience. I don't want them to know that we're on to them. Just stick close to me and they won't suspect a thing. Do you have any questions?"

"I think you've filled me in on everything."

"Great. Let me show you to your room."

X

It took a while for Isabella to adjust to having you around. You did your job well but you distracted her. The two of you were supposed to keep an eye on the trouble makers but Isabella often found herself focusing on you than on the kids. It was a miracle as to how you hadn't noticed that Isabella could hardly take her eyes off of you.

"Could I talk to you for a second?"

It was late at night and the kids were already sleeping. After making sure that no one would sneak out of their beds, you made your way to Isabella's room to talk to her about something that you've been thinking about for a while.

"Of course, come in. What is it that you wanted to talk about?"

You walk in and close the door behind you. Being alone in the room with her was a little nerve wrecking and you were feeling very grateful of the training you had undergone to hide your nerves.

"I dunno how to say this..."

"You can tell me anything. We're supposed to trust one another. Have the kids done anything?"

"No, this isn't about the kids. This is about....you."

Isabella is a little surprised that you had come to talk to her about herself. She wasn't sure what you wanted to talk about and she just hoped that you wouldn't bring up the staring.

"What about me?"

"I've noticed you occasionally looking at me. I...I don't mind it. I just wanted to know if you didn't like what I was doing. Like you said, we're supposed to trust each other. If I'm doing something that you don't like then please let me know."

There was no way Isabella was going to tell you that she had come to like you. The last time that she had liked someone, they had died. She had sworn off of falling in love but she couldn't help herself with you. However what she could do was not tell you the truth and lie about it.

"You're doing everything perfectly. I just need to keep up appearance. The kids all think that I'm supposed to keep an eye on you to see that you're doing a good job."

You suddenly felt stupid for overthinking things.

"Right. Thank you for telling me. I'll leave you be. We have an early morning tomorrow. Goodnight, Isabella."

"Goodnight (y/n)."

X

Isabella needed you gone. The longer that you stayed, the harder it was for her to keep her feelings in check. The only thing she could do to get you away and keep you alive was to recommend you for a position of Mama. Thankfully a position had opened up so she could recommend you for it.

"I don't understand. I'm becoming a Mama?"

Isabella had waited until all the kids were asleep to tell you the news.

"Precisely. You were able to help me with our little problem and I think this is only fair."

You weren't sure what to say. You didn't want the job nor did you want to leave but you weren't allowed to decline it. This was supposed to be an honor.

"When do I leave?"

"Tomorrow."

It was too soon. You still hadn't worked up the courage to tell her how you felt and now you were never going to be able to.

X

The day comes faster than you would've liked. You hadn't been able to sleep and now you were regretting not at least attempting to get an hour of sleep.

"You were all wonderful children. I hope the kids that I have to take care of are as wonderful as all of you."

You give them a smile and hug all the kids that had warmed up to you. After bidding them goodnight, Isabella helps you with your bag as the two of you walk back to the cave.

"Are you ready to becoming a mama?"

"Not really. I still don't think that I'm fit for the job. I've always been a better sister. Grandmother never bothered to continue my training as a mama because of it."

The two of you continue walking quietly, not really sure what else to say.

"I'm going to miss you, (y/n). I really like having you around."

"Isabella, I..."

"There you are! We need to hurry, the sister that we left in charge is clearly not ready to be a mama. Come on!"

Grandmother interrupts you before you have a chance to tell Isabella how you felt. Your opportunity had passed.

"Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I couldn't have been able to get it because of you."

"You deserved it."

She hands you your bags, wanting nothing more than to hug you but she refrains herself from doing so. Grandmother was watching and she didn't want them to suspect anything. You give her a smile and follow Grandmother back into the cave, wishing that you had gotten the courage to tell her before getting the job.

Isabella doesn't look back as she heads back to the house. With you gone, she could start thinking clearly and focus on taking care of the kids.
