You/Esdeath - Revelations

The chief was brutal with you. He expected perfection from everything you did and you weren't sure why. He pulled you aside for extra lessons and even made you pick up weapons that the other kids in the clan would never touch for how difficult they were to handle. The only one who would often partake in the extra trainings was the chief's daughter.

She only stuck around when he father asked her to train with you. While you liked having her around, you didn't enjoy training with her. You never understood how to please her father when the two of you training together. If you defeated Esdeath, he grew angry at you for hurting his daughter. If you were defeated, he grew angry for being so weak. The chief was never pleased with your performance.

Arriving early than usual to your morning training, the chief met up with you halfway.

"We're changing things today. I want you to go to the lake by the forest to fish until you fill this bucket. I don't want you to return until it's filled. You're only allowed to use your bare hands and a spear. Got it?"

"Yes sir."

You quickly grabbed the bucket and hurry to the lake. He hadn't given you a time to return so you figured he was timing you on how fast you could finish your task.

X

You could see the fire just a few feet away from the lake. Although you knew it was coming from the village, you hoped that wasn't the case. Tossing the bucket of fish, you hurried to help.

When you arrived, you forced yourself to walk among the dead bodies for any survivors. Finding your parents, you only spared them a couple of minutes to utter a silent prayer before continuing on your search. It wasn't until the very end when you arrived to find the chief.

"Sir!" You hurried to help him but he stopped you. "I can save you. Just hold on!"

"Stop it! Quit wasting your energy on me. You need to leave. Run away before they return. M..my daughter, I sent her away. Find her and keep her safe."

All the extra trainings made sense. The chief was training you to be Esdeath's guard. You should be furious that your choice had been taken away but you were strangely okay with the position that you were just given.

"I'll find her and keep her safe."

"Take my band, you've earned it."

Nodding, you removed the band from his head. After a quick goodbye, you ran off in the direction of the single footprints.

(Present)

You waited until the man stopped moving before removing your mask to clean the blood. You normally wouldn't care over the blood but you were going to meet with Esdeath. She demanded perfection from anyone that worked under her and a dirty uniform was not tolerated.

Once clean, you put the mask back on and hurried back to headquarters. You quietly walked down the halls until you arrived at the door of Esdeath's office. You only walked in when you were given permission.

"How did it go?"

"The target has been eliminated."

"Excellent. I knew I could trust you (code name). You're dismissed for the night."

"Thank you, General."

You give her a slight bow and turn on your heel.

"Wait."

You freeze in your steps and turn around to find out what she wanted. Instead of saying anything, she stood from her chair and walked over to you. Pulling out a handkerchief from her pocket, she wiped what you assume is blood from your neck. You tense up from being so close to her. Although she couldn't know that you were under the mask, you still worried that she will eventually figure out who you were.

"Thank you, General. I apologize for my appearance."

"You always look sharp. A few drops of blood you missed is nothing. Go rest. You sound exhausted."

Excusing yourself, you hurry to your room. You were grateful for the mask that hid your pink cheeks. You hated how a few words from her would make you react like this. Falling in love with the person you are meant to guard is strictly prohibited. You wouldn't be able to do your job properly if you let your feelings get in the way of things.

After taking a long shower, you finally went to sleep. Your dreams were all about Esdeath.

X

You could barely get yourself out of bed the next morning. You had only gotten a few hours of sleep when you had been called by Esdeath for another mission.

As you stood at attention while hearing the details from your mission, you were swaying. You only noticed because Esdeath had pointed it out.

"Have you been resting?"

"I find it difficult to get sleep but do not worry about me, General. I am capable of carrying out your mission."

She gives you a wary look before eventually continuing to explain the details.

"Are you sure that you are capable of doing this? I have others that can complete the mission."

"I'll be offended if you hand my mission to someone else. I'll complete it by tonight."

"Alright. Be careful." You nod and excuse yourself. You had only taken a few steps before exhaustion overtook you and you passed out. "(y/n)"

Esdeath hurries to your side and makes sure that your heart is still beating. When she comes to the conclusion that you had only passed out, she carries you in her arms and leads you to her room. She bumps into Dr. Stylish and has him follow her so he could check you.

"So she just passed out? What else did you see?"

"She was swaying when she stood at attention. I asked her about it but she told me to ignore it."

He nods as he takes several notes. When he's done checking you over, he pulls out a bottle of pills and puts them on your nightstand.

"Her body gave out. She's been using her imperial arms far too much and it's taking a toll on her body. With rest, she'll be back on her feet."

"I'll see to it that she rests. Thank you."

He excuses himself, leaving the two of you alone. Esdeath stared at your mask, tempted to take it off. As your superior, she had every right to take it off but she hesitated. You had been loyal to her and never questioned her about anything. The only thing you requested was to remain anonymous. No one asked questions about and you would remain loyal. If she were to take off your mask, your identity would be revealed.

After going back and forth with herself, she decides to leave your mask on. As she's about to take a seat, she notices the district band from her clan and a bracelet she had given to someone special she knew.

She wouldn't take off your mask but she needed answers.

X

Esdeath remained at your side for hours, waiting for you to wake up. You had only been awake for a minute before you're bombarded by Esdeath's questions.

"Please wait." She actually stops talking, allowing you a minute to gather your bearings. "What happened?"

"You passed out from exhaustion. I carried you in here and Dr. Stylish checked you over. He's having you on bed rest for two weeks. Now answer my questions."

The last thing you wanted was for Esdeath to know about who you really were. Things were just better if she believed that she was the sole survivor of the clan.

"They're mine." Reluctantly taking of your mask, you toss it to the side. Grabbing the band and bracelet, you hold them out for her. "I'm sorry for not telling you sooner."

Esdeath takes the items and spends a while staring at them. It's quiet for a few minutes before she surprises you by throwing her arms around your neck and pulling you for a tight hug.

"I thought I had lost you. I'm so happy you're still alive."

"You remember me?"

"Why wouldn't I? You were my..." She stops herself from talking, taking a minute to think of an answer before continuing. "You were my father's choice to become the next chief."

You frown as you hear this. You had always believed you were being trained to be Esdeath's guard.

"The next chief? That's not right. He said that I was supposed to be your guard. Before I left the village, he told me to search for you and keep you safe."

"I assume since the clan was wiped, there was nothing for you to take over. I can't believe you actually listened to him. You could've just ignored his wishes."

"I couldn't. I cared....care for you, Esdeath. I needed to make sure you would be safe. It took a while but I eventually found you."

She gives you a wide smile.

"I'm glad you found me. I was beginning to think that I was destined to die alone but now that won't be the case since you're here."

You could feel your heart threatening to come out of your chest with how fast it was beating. It almost sounded like she wanted a future with you.

"I don't understand."

Tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, she leans in close enough so that your lips were almost touching.

"I've always liked you, (y/n). My feelings for you never went away. Am I correct to assume that you also have feelings for me."

Closing the distance between the two of you, you kiss her.

"You are correct to assume."
