You took a deep breath, preparing yourself for what was about to come. After being with Esdeath for several years, you were going to break up with her. You were done with the constant abuse that Esdeath would put you through. If you stayed, you were never going to be happy. 

"What is it, (y/n)? I need to prepare for our mission."

There was no point in dragging it out so you just blurted it out. 

"We need to break up."

Esdeath actually laughed at your words. She found it ridiculous that you thought the two of you would break up. 

"Don't be ridiculous. You can't break up with me. You love me just like I love you. You would be a fool to do so."

"Esdeath, I do love you but I can't tolerate the way you treat me anymore."

"What is wrong with the way I treat you? Everything I do is out of love."

"You keep me locked in this building unless I go out with someone you trust! God forbid that I talk to someone that you don't know because you kill them. Any friend that I used to have is gone because of the constant death threats that you gave them. I can't do this anymore. You treat me more like a prisoner than your lover, Esdeath."

Esdeath sighs as she caress your cheek with her thumb. It hurt that you didn't appreciate the efforts she took to keep you safe. There was only one way to show you why it was important for her to do all those things to you. 

"You're right. If you wish to breakup then we will. I haven't been treating you well and you deserve someone better. I'll have someone help you with your things. Do you have a place to stay?"

It was stranger for her to just give up like this but you weren't going to question it. 

"I do. Thank you Esdeath and I'm sorry for breaking things off like this."

"You don't have to apologize for breaking up with me. I just want you to know that if you need me, I'll always be here for you."

You thank her and make your way out.

You were sleeping when they broke in that by the time you noticed that they had broken in, it was too late. 

"So it is true. The two of you broke up. Lucky for us that we just happened to be in the neighborhood."

They quickly covered your mouth and tied your limbs as they dragged you outside. Any attempts that you took to get out of the rope were useless. 

"It's okay, we're not going to hurt you too bad. Just enough to get the attention of your ex. We have some business with her."

One of the men tells you before knocking you out.

You wake up to hear the distinct sound of the ice your ex used to control. Screams soon followed and you knew that Esdeath had showed up. A few minutes later and the door is slammed open. 

"Oh my sweet darling. I was afraid that this would happen."

She says when she notices the cuts and bruises that covered your body. Kurome removes your bindings and helps you stand as Esdeath inspects you for any other injuries. 

"You came to save me.."

"I told you that I would always be here for you. I was alerted about the break in and I rushed to come find you. I'm sorry for not getting here quicker."

You give her a tired smile as she pulls you to her side. 

"It's okay. You came to save me. Just like you've always done. Can we go home?"

"I'm not comfortable with taking you back to your place. What if they send more to finish the job?"

"I mean back to your place. If that's okay with you."

Esdeath gives you a smile as she nods. 

"It is more than okay with me. You'll be safer back at our place."

After making sure that there were no more survivors, Esdeath took you back home.

"Did you really have to put her through all that, Esdeath? I'm sure the poor girl would've realized that she had made a mistake on breaking up with you."

"She had to know that she's nothing without me. I had to show her that she needs me and I did. She's not going to think about leaving anymore."

Wave didn't say anything just nodded and headed back to his room. He felt bad for you but he wasn't going to say anything. The men that Esdeath killed had been hired to kidnap you and yet she killed them just to make it seem like you had been really kidnapped. There was no telling what Esdeath would do to him if he told you what Esdeath had done.

Esdeath moved to get up but you held on to her tighter.

"Please don't go."

"I'm only going to the bathroom. I'll be right back."

You buried your face in her neck, refusing to let her move. Esdeath smiled, happy to see that her plan had worked. 

"Alright. I'll stay, (y/n). Get some sleep. I'll keep you safe."

You were never going to make the mistake of ever leaving again. You were hers forever.
