Top Ten Underrated Anime

{ATTENTION: Before I start I want to warn you that you don't have to agree in everything I said. This is based on my/ and my friends' opinion. So please don't get MAD at me if you're not satisfied with the list.}

***

There are bunch of anime out there and many otakus only focused on the mainstream anime and popular manga(s)/light novels adaptations but while you're watching "Mainstream/Overrated Anime" there are actually several amazing anime that are overlooked by fans because they're not that mainstream. So, I made this list!!

(Synopsis and Overview below)

10. Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

Synopsis

God abandoned the world on Sunday. As a result, nobody in the world can die or reproduce. A little girl, Ai, is the gravekeeper for a village. She has prepared 47 graves for the eventual deaths of every member of the village. Later, a man who identifies himself as "Hampnie Hambart, the 'Man-eating Toy'," which is coincidentally the name that Ai's mother left behind as the name of her father, arrives in the village and slaughters everybody.

Overview

The characters are unique and not really clichéd, are nicely developed, allowing you to feel connected to all characters, the plot is entertaining and different and merging with different themes that usually aren't a part of only one anime. The drama here is also good!

9. Shinsekai Yori

Synopsis

A millennium from now, in Japan, exists a utopia. The protagonist, Saki Watanabe, lives in an idyllic village barred from the outside world. Her world is ruled by the people who possess the "gods' power" of psych kinesis. After finally obtaining her own powers, Saki enters the Zenjin Academy to train along with five other children: Satoru Asahina, Maria Akizuki, Mamoru Itou, Shun Aonuma, and Reiko Amano.

Overview

Overall I really enjoyed this anime, people should give it a try (unexpectedly, it even became one of my favorites). It did not look appealing to me at first, hence "diamond in the ruff", but once I started and things picked up, I just wrapped myself in a blanket and marathon the whole show.

8. Binbougami Ga!

Synopsis

At the expense of the people and things around her, Sakura has absorbed so much "happiness energy" that she has caused an energy imbalance in the world. In order to return balance to the world, the Poverty God, Momiji, sets out to take away Sakura's ability to absorb this energy. Will Momiji be able to put a stop to Sakura's absorbing abilities, or will the God succumb to her happiness?

Overview

Binbougami ga! is hilarious and completely slapstick. It features obvious references to other anime/manga or Japanese tropes while boasting a simple but fairly heartwarming arc as Sakura Ichiko proves she is a dynamic character.

7. Hunter x Hunter 2011

Synopsis

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is set in a world where Hunters exist to perform all manner of dangerous tasks like capturing criminals and bravely searching for lost treasures in uncharted territories. Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss is determined to become the best Hunter possible in hopes of finding his father, who was a Hunter himself and had long ago abandoned his young son. However, Gon soon realizes the path to achieving his goals is far more challenging than he could have ever imagined.

Overview

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is an intelligent battle anime with a fantastic story, excellent characters and fights that involve a lot of strategy. Separating it from most of its genre, the series subverts shonen tropes and boasts unpredictable plot progressions that make it truly unique.

6. White Album

Synopsis

Fujii Touya, a college student, is dating a rising idol singer named Morikawa Yuki. There are numerous challenges to the couple's relationship from the other people at Fujii's college, Morikawa's work, and elsewhere.

Overview

White Album is a true life story about what it means to be a guy in the real world. White album is truly underrated because they thought its just the same romance anime but it's not true! It includes cheating and other serious things that are very similar in real life which made this show great. If you tried to skip this show just because its from an eroge, I think you're doing a wrong decision.

5. Zetsuen no Tempest

Synopsis

The Kusaribe family is a family of sorcerers under the protection of the "Tree of Origins". Their princess, Hakaze Kusaribe, was the greatest sorceress of their family. But Samon Kusaribe, a member of their family seeking to resurrect the "Tree of World's End", a tree that opposes the "Tree of Origins" and controls the power of destruction, stuffs her into a barrel, and banishes her to a deserted island.

Overview

The story is original, the characters are great, and the artwork is beautiful. What makes Zetsuen no Tempest exciting is that you'll think who is the real "bad guy" but the truth is there is no real "bad guy" and both sides are just desperately fighting for what they truly and honestly believe is right. Adding quotes from Shakespeare's Hamlet and Tempest also adds interest from other people. I just wish this anime would be discovered by other anime lovers...

4. Kyousou Giga

Synopsis

Three kids are stuck in a strange city causing massive mayhem through the land. They are searching for an atypical rabbit in order to return home. Koto, the eldest of the three, seems to have some sort of connection to this weird place ruled by a monk, a demon, and a priest.

Overview

Kyousou Giga is not your typical anime that you can find out there and it is definitely a piece of work, but I might have to warn you that it may not seem to be very coherent at first. Even though it might get confusing at first, they did a good job highlighting the plot points. The art is also one of the most captivating parts of the anime since it's very unique ^_^

3. Tokyo Ravens

Synopsis

Tsuchimikado Harutora was born into the prestigious Onmyoji family, but can't see "spirit energy." Therefore, he's been enjoying a peaceful daily life with his friends at the Onmyo branch school. One day, his childhood friend Tsuchimikado Natsume, heir to the head family, suddenly appears. Will this cause his destiny to spring into motion?!

Overview

For people who enjoy magic fantasy action anime, you will probably like this as it has a nice mix of all of those genres with interesting plot twists. The only problem here are the cliché characters but overall it's a nice anime that you definitely can't miss!

2. ef: A Tale of Memories

Synopsis

On Christmas Eve, Hiro Hirono's bike is stolen by a girl chasing a thief who stole her purse. He gives chase and finds her unconscious and his bike ruined. The girl, Miyako Miyamura, soon awakes and the two begin to talk. After making sure she is okay, they end up spending Christmas Eve together. Later, Hiro finds out Miyako attends the same school as him and they begin to spend more and more time together, Miyako developing affections for Hiro. Kei Shindou—Hiro's childhood friend who has long held a crush on him—begins to become jealous and a love triangle follows.

Overview

Love. Tragedy. Sadness. And a happy ending. Some of you might think that this is your typical romance anime but no...the characters were struggling for their dreams to come true and that's what make this anime special. This show is truly one of the best shows I've watched, and I think that anyone who enjoys a tear-jerking show will love this show. Fully and completely.

1. Zankyou No Terror

Synopsis

In an alternate version of the present, Tokyo has been stricken by a shocking terrorist attack, and the only hint to the identity of the culprit is a bizarre video uploaded to the internet. The police, baffled by this cryptic clue, are powerless to stop the paranoia spreading across the population.

Overview

There are many stories that focus on anti-heroes and terrorism, yet none have come close to the level of maturity found in ZnT. This shows succeeded in areas that other shows such as Death Note faltered. This is the kind of show that you could quite happily show to any non-anime orientated friends with confidence that they won't leave mid-way through. Zankyou no terror needs to be discovered by more fans since it's a very great anime.

------

And that's it! My top ten underrated anime shows, like I said, this is my list so you don't have to agree or complain about my ranking since I have my own opinion. There's so much more underrated anime out there so I'm planning of making a part 2 of this.
