Chapter Twelve

Neteyam laid against Aonung's chest, their families surrounding them.
They were all, very much so pissed.

Jake crossed his arms, Lo'ak copying his movements.
"Explain what happened."

Neteyam sighed, slightly wanting to refuse. It would be too painful to talk of. But the way they all stood, showed he had no choice.
"I was getting back from Patrol and I heard a scream, I think. I went to go look and uh..he was there."

Neytiri stepped forward, her eyes narrowed.
"Who?"

"Miles."
Neteyam whispered, looking back to his dad.

Jake stood, struck. Lo'ak stuttered, letting out a nervous laugh.
"No, no way. Dad left him at the bottom of the fucking reef! How..how did he survive?"

Neteyam tensed, his eyes widening.
"You.. don't know?"

Everyone looked at him, almost confused. More so worried.
Neteyam stood from Aonung, his hand resting over the wound.
"Where's Spider?"

Kiri and Lo'ak looked between themselves, both their ears turning down.
"About a week after you left, he kind of, disappeared."

Neteyam nodded, scoffing under his breath.
"Yeah, because I knew what happened. Spider went back for him, after I was shot. He saved him."

Lo'ak tensed, Kiri falling limp against Rotxo.
Tonowari crossed his arms, shooting a glance to Jake.
"How do you know?"

Neteyam thinned his lips, shaking his head.
"When I was, I guess dead, he told me. He told me everything. I don't know how but, I heard him."

Tonowari and the others nodded, sharing careful looks.

At first, they were scared for Neteyam. Thinking he had been injured in a fight. Which, he was.
But now, they worried for him mentally.

Ronal took in a sharp breath, tilting her head.
"Take your time but, explain it to us, what happened with Miles."

Neteyam looked down, slightly calming as Aonung placed their hands together.

Neteyam smiled as he walked along the pathway, happy his patrol went easy and quick.
He had been gone for hours, and he was ready to rest.

He leaned over, slightly running his hands along the trees.

His ears twitched as he heard what sounded like a scream. Maybe closer to a shout.

He turned back around, quickly finding his way to the sound with the help of the trees around him. Making his travel that much faster.

He stilled as he saw who it was.

Black short hair

Blue eyes

Tall Avatar Body

Army Clothing

Knife

Gun

Miles.

Neteyam hissed as he grabbed his knife, preparing to attack from above.
He groaned, dropping the knife as he felt a warm liquid pool down his legs.

He grabbed his stomach, covering his mouth before crouching down.

"Yo, stupid!"

His eyes widened at the familiar voice. A old friend, no a family member, walking towards the Avatar. A smile on his face, fruit in his hand.
Spider.

Miles turned towards the human boy, carefully taking the fruit from him.
"You were gone for a long time brat."

Spider laughed, kicking his lower back before turning back around. Beginning to jog off.
"Don't move! I'll go check it out!"

And just like he came, he disappeared back through the woods.

Miles let out a low laugh, turning his body sideways.
"I know you're there. Oldest Sully freak, huh?"

Neteyam froze, looking to his knife. Silently wondering if he could reach it before Miles reached him.

"I thought you died when I first left, but then dear old Miles two point O told me the real story. I wonder, does your daddy approve of you threatening Spider? Kid told me Jake loved 'em."

Neteyam groaned, his vision clouding as the stabbing pain in his stomach became more prominent.

Miles quickly took out his knife, biting into the fruit.
"I'll tell ya, I'm thankful for that kid, sorry, my kid I mean. He's been teaching me all sort of useful things."

Miles smirked before fully turning, throwing the knife hard.

Neteyam let out a short cry, quickly covering his mouth. His eyes narrowed to glare at the man.

Miles winked, turning around as Spider made his way back. Far, but close enough to see.

"C'mon, it's clear!"

Miles waved and gave a thumbs up, quickly turning to look in Neteyams direction before running after the human monkey.

Neteyam groaned, collapsing against the tree.
"Damn, that doesn't help.."

He hissed, sitting himself up before stumbling to his hut. Trying to be quick.

Jake lowered his head while Neytiri shook with a boiling rage.
Lo'ak looked absolutely devastated, as did Kiri.

Neteyam winced, feeling his stomach begin to burn again.
Aonung carefully set him back on the platform, making room for Norm.

He laid Neteyam back, lifting up his shirt and once again, picking up a tablet.
He moved the gel around with his wrist, his eyes only sad.

The rest of the family around them felt pity for the young couple.
Some anger for not knowing, others for how this baby's life ended.

Norm sighed, setting the tablet down and wiping off the gel.
"You're body is passing the baby. It will cramp for a few days."

Neteyam nodded, sighing as Aonung shook his head.
He leaned down, giving Neteyam a quick kiss before walking out.

Ronal sighed, shaking her head.
Neytiri quickly ushered everyone out, standing by the door as she herself needed a minute.

Ronal carefully sat by Neteyam, her hand going over his.
"In our home, we have a belief."

Neteyam turned towards her, looking at her thoughtfully.

"We say, that sometimes souls are so precious and sacred that Eywa deems this world too unkind for them. So she returns them, to live in peace and harmony with her."

Neteyam smiled at the idea. Hugging Ronal.
"Thank You."

Ronal smiled, rubbing his back.
"Of course."

Aonung crossed his arms, his body filled with annoyance.

It had been a week since the loss of his child, and every day since Neteyam kept his distance.
They hardly spoke, hardly looked in each other's direction, hardly shared a bed, they were hardly even in a room together.

It pissed Aonung off, greatly.

He frowned as Neteyam began to walk to his Ikran, soon following him.

He stopped Neteyam, turning him around so he couldn't run from him.
Neteyam sighed up at Aonung, shaking his head.
"Yes?"

Aonung laughed sarcastically.
"Yes? Really? It's been a week, Neteyam. You hardly look at me."

Neteyam looked down, mumbling a quick sorry.
Aonung sighed, reaching out to him. He only hissed as Neteyam harshly pulled back. Keeping a distance between them.
"And this! You won't let me touch you!"

Neteyam looked up, finally uncrossing his arms.
"I don't want to be touched right now."

Aonung shook his head, a scowl on his face.
"After all you've done to me in this past week, hell past few weeks-"

Neteyam interrupted him with a laugh. His face contorted in anger and shock.
"All I've done to you? I have done anything to you!"

Aonung raised his eyebrows, taking a quick step back as his voice got louder.
"How about keeping the fact that you were pregnant with our child from me?! For weeks!"

Neteyam shook his head, his tail flicking hard against the ground. Pieces of dirt slightly getting thrown into the air.
"You're right, I did. I kept it a secret. I was not wrong for doing that. I told you I was nervous about being pregnant! So yes, I took some time to process that fact that I was. And yes, even now I'm taking time to process the fact that one minute I had a baby and the next it was ripped from me!"

Aonung hissed through his teeth, trying to hold on to a bit of control.
"I didn't get to process until it was gone. I didn't get to be happy about it. You didn't let me because you weren't going to tell me!"

Neteyam tensed, his ears falling.
"That's exactly why I didn't tell you in the first place! You would've fallen apart! It doesn't matter when I told you or if I was going to because it's still gone!"

Aonung scowled, his eyes clouded.
"And whose fault is that, hm?"

Neteyam froze, his voice going calm. His breathing becoming quicker as tears gathered at the corners of his eyes.
"You wanna play that card, really? Don't you think I already feel guilty enough. All I feel is guilt and anger. All the time. I wasn't smart enough to know to move, I wasn't fast enough to get to Norm, I wasn't strong enough for our child to be safe inside of me. Trust me when I say, I blame myself enough for the both of us. The one place our baby should of been safest, was where it died. Because I was doing my duty and got stabbed. I blame myself for not being strong but I do not blame myself for it's death. That is on Miles. And Miles alone. But you know who I blame as well? You. I wasn't supposed to be back that early, but I was. You complain about how you weren't told, but I was only there because I was coming to tell you. Because that day was the first day I felt happiness about being pregnant. So, blame me all you want. But stay the fuck away from me."

Aonung closed his eyes as Neteyam turned on his heels, quickly grabbing Täka'yi and taking off.

Aonung dipped his head, turning as he felt a hand on his back.
"Mother."

Ronal slapped him on the head, pulling him in for a quick hug, separating just as fast. Leaving a very confused son.
"I understand your anger, Aonung. You feel betrayed and lied too. But, Neteyam had given up on having children. He accepted that fate. Then it all changed. He knew how important it was too you and he couldn't tell you before he knew it was safe. The healer told him so."

Ronal removed her hands, crossing then Infront of her stomach.
"Neteyam is in pain, son. A guilt so all-consuming, if Eywa was to take him he would go graciously. There is no right way to feel in this situation, but, speaking to each other with hurtful words will only make the pain that much stronger. He will come to you in time, you must trust him."

Aonung nodded, allowing her to push him inside the hut.
She turned, quickly handing him the baby.
"Now, watch him while I cook. My arms are sore."
