Chapter Ten

Neteyam groaned as Ronal and Neytiri pulled him forward, swinging the metal door open.

They had both insisted Neteyam get checked by Norm, and on them coming.
Neteyam had woken up from intense cramps, enough to almost wake Aonung up.
Worried, the mom's soon ushered him out of the hut and to the sky-healer.

Norm turned in his chair, smiling as he saw Neteyam being laid on the metal platform.
Neytiri turned towards him, her hands on Neteyam's shoulders and bicep.
"He has cramps, check the baby."

Norm laughed, pulling out gloves and the equipment he would need.
He turned to Ronal, giving her a smile.
"You're Aonung's mom, Ronal?"

Ronal nodded, smiling as Norm respectfully bowed.
She turned to Neteyam and Neytiri, signing to them.
"I like this one."

Neteyam smiled, letting Ronal hold his hand as Norm lifted his shirt.

He quickly snapped on his gloves, pressing the metal rod into his stomach.
Norm smiled, turning around the tablet while still examining his stomach.
"You're about four weeks now."

Norm wipes off the gel, throwing the gloves away as they all stared at the screen.
"Everything looks healthy, right on track. Cramping is normal."

Neteyam sat up on his elbows, Neytiri and Ronal wearing smiles.
Norm set the tablet down, crossing his arms.
"Now, this is still unknown territory. Be vigilant. If the cramps get worse or if you feel a stabbing pain, and if you see blood, run to me. You're still not out of the woods yet, so keep coming to me at least twice a week."

Neteyam smiled, nodding and walking back towards the forest.
Neytiri and Ronal followed, locking their arms to his.

Neytiri placed her head on her son's shoulder, waving as they passed members of the clan.
"Soon, you will not feel well enough to travel. What will you do?"

Ronal looked to him, quietly wondering the same.
Neteyam sighed, his tail flicking behind him.
"I do not know. But, Norm is here. I don't feel comfortable being far from him."

Ronal nodded, placing a hand on Neteyam's chest. Smiling as he helped her step up the hill.
"Whatever you decide, we support you."

Neteyam sat comfortably on the floor, Tuk behind him playing with his hair.

She stood, wrapping her arms around him.
"Goodnight TeyTey!"

Neteyam smiled, turning and giving her a gentle hug.
"Goodnight Tuk."

Tuk ran into her father's arms, waving as he carried her to bed.
Neytiri walked into the room, taking a seat Infront of him.
"You have still not told anyone."

Neteyam sighed, wrapping his arms around himself.
"I'm still processing it myself. One day, I had just been mated, the next I'm expecting a baby."

Neytiri smiled, nodding in understanding.
Neteyam leaned forward, keeping his hands over his stomach.
"What was it like for you, finding out about me?"

Neytiri took a breath, her hands snitching clothing pieces together.
"It was hard. The war was as brutal as ever, but your father and I found time. I found out after a raid, the bodies making me dizzy. Norm did a scan, and it showed me you. I cut back on raids, stuck to hunting."

Neytiri looked up to her son, placing her hand on his.
"It was one of the hardest things I have been blessed with. But, is had been the most joyful. When I first saw your eyes, heard your voice, saw you walk...I have never felt so much love. It will be difficult, but the second you feel your child, none of that will matter anymore."

Neteyam smiled, looking down to his stomach.
"I don't feel connected to it at all. I just, feel off. Is that.. normal?"

Neytiri smiled, laughing as she set the finished loincloths on the table.
"Yes. Give it time, it will become better."

Neteyam nodded, giving her a grateful smile.

Neteyam shivered as the cool gel pressed around his abdomen. His eyes watching the tablet that held in Norms hands.

He tapped his fingers on his chest, sitting up seconds later.

Norm set the tablet down, handing a wet rag to Neteyam.
"Looks healthy for six weeks, it's on track. By next week, we should be able to tell if it's one or two."

Neteyam sighed, laying back down. He ran his hand down his chest, resting on his stomach.
Norm looked towards him, his eyebrows furrowed.
"You know, it's probably okay to start telling people."

Neteyam turned his head, his hair falling from the platform from beside him.
"I know. I'm just not ready too, I guess."

Norm nodded, quickly going back to track Neteyam's progress.
His fingers tapping quietly against the keys.

Neteyam stood, keeping his gaze low.

Lo'ak shot awake as he heard a loud hiss from the other side of the hut. He quickly moved his arms from Tsireya's waist, grabbing his knife and walking out.

Neteyam stood at the doorway, holding a wooden pillar, his body turned in on itself.
Panting.

Lo'ak set his knife down, quickly kneeling by his brothers side.
"Neteyam, bro!"

Neteyam gripped Lo'ak's shoulder, looking up to him with cat like pupils. His eyes lined with tears, mouth turned up in pain.
"Norm. Take me to Norm."

Lo'ak nodded, quickly standing.
"I'll get Aonung and-"

"No!"
Neteyam grabbed his brothers wrist, pulling him back to his side.
"There's no time, just please.."

Lo'ak nodded, wrapping his brothers arm around his neck.
He looked down his body.
His legs dripped with blood, his abdomen covered in a deep red. Lo'ak couldn't tell if there was a wound or not, Neteyam's hand holding his stomach in a tight grip.

Lo'ak hooked his arm under his brothers knees, panting as he ran to the sky-healers home.
He passed by his father, Jake seeing the scene and soon running next to him.

They opened the metal door, setting Neteyam on the platform before Norm ran into the room.

He quickly got on a pair of gloves, urging the two out of the room.

Jake pushed to look through the metal door, fighting himself to not be rough with Norm.
"That's my son!"

Norm shook his head, his hands pushing Jake out.
"He needs help that you can't give him! Get me Mo'at, now!"

Lo'ak nodded, running to the clan. Ignoring the worried looks he received from his friends.

Jake stood by a tree, nervously pacing as he held his head in his hands.

Lo'ak ran into the hut, relief and panic filling him as he saw everyone up.

Mo'at was the first to notice, letting out a worry fueled hiss as she noticed the blood.
The rest soon turned, panic on everyone's faces.

Lo'ak pushed his mom away from him, shaking his head to show it wasn't his blood.
"Nonna, please! It's Neteyam!"

Everyone froze before running to the medical post, Kiri staying to watch Tuk and Fruno.

Jake stopped Neytiri and Aonung, holding them from going inside. Soon, Tonowari doing the same for his son.

Ronal and Mo'at turned to the others as they walked inside.
"Don't worry, he will be fine."

°^°^°^°^°^°

Norm let out a airy thank you as Ronal and Mo'at walked into the room. His hands coated as he pressed a towel to Neteyam's stomach.

"What has happened?"
Mo'at exclaimed, touching her grandson's face. Feeling for breath.
"Why is he not awake?"

"I gave him a sedative. He has a stab wound to the lower abdomen."
Norm explained, quickly grabbing a thread and needle.
"It's not wide, just deep."

Mo'at furrowed her eyebrows, he face in a frown.
"His legs. Blood as well."

Ronal widened her eyes, quickly taking over for Norm as he rushed to grab his earlier equipment.
She finished the stitches quickly, only needing a handful.

Norm pressed the cold metal to Neteyam's abdomen, pressing hard against his stomach.
"Damnit.. c'mon."

He sighed, throwing the tablet on the floor. His head hanging low.
Ronal closed her eyes, tears clouding her vision as her shoulders slumped.

Mo'at looked between them, picking up a wet cloth to clean the blood from his body.
"What is wrong?"

Ronal sighed, her voice quiet and breaking. Radiating with sadness.
"He just lost his baby.."
