Sleepy Cuddles

Hawks looked around the room wearily, eyes resting on the dusty bed then glancing at the couch. He wrinkled his nose at the sharp smell of dust and the pass of time.

"I'm not sleeping on the couch." Hawks and Dabi said at the same time.

Dabi's eyes narrowed. "Fine, you can sleep on the floor," he said evenly.

Hawks' wings twitched in annoyance and he glanced at the floor, sharp eyes locking on a rat that stared up at him from beneath the bed, it's yellow eyes glaring up at him. Hawks fought the urge to growl at it- he wasn't a dog.

"I'm not sleeping on the floor either," Hawks answered, raising his eyes to meet Dabi's. He quirked an eyebrow up in a cocky gesture. "You can if you're so immature you can't sleep with one other person in the bed. I'm not gonna touch you. We can put a pillow in the middle if it bothers you so much."

Dabi sucked on his teeth, contemplating. "Fine," he said finally, rolling an eye at Hawks then pulling the covers off and shaking the dust off. "Help me make the bed again."

Hawks sent four feathers out to do the job, one feather sliding past Dabi's hand, pushing it away.

Dabi rolled his eyes as the bed was made in record speed, much faster than he could have done by hand.

"Really?" Dabi asked, rolling his eyes once more.

Hawks smiled happily sitting down on the bed as soon as it was made.

"Your huge ass wings are on my side." Dabi grumbled.

Hawks rolled his eyes and turned so that he was laying down and facing Dabi- how else was he supposed to sleep? The nest-like set up of his bed made it easy for him to stretch out and be comfortable, but with the space he was provided, Hawks just didn't have the materials for that sort of bed set up.

Hawks felt his eyes flutter shut and he slipped into a dreamless sleep.

Hawks was jolted awake what felt like seconds later when something collided into his stomach, sending him tumbling over the bed with a yelp. Hawks landed sprawled on his back, wincing at the way his wing was bent beneath him.

"Ow!" he moaned, sitting up and stretching his wings. Dabi crawled over the bed and peaked over the mattress, a small smirk fighting its way onto his face.

"Oh, sorry, I'm a sleep kicker."

Hawks narrowed his eyes. "You seem pretty awake for someone who just woke up."

Dabi shrugged. "Morning person?"

"Somehow I find that hard to believe." Hawks answered, rolling his eyes and stretching his wings once more.

"Well, if you don't want it to happen you could just sleep on the floor..." Dabi started, trailing off as he slunk back to his side of the bed.

Hawks yanked Dabi's pillow out from under him and set it down in the middle of the bed, ignoring the villain's protests and slapping away his hands as they reached to retrieve his pillow.

"You kick me, you pay for it. The pillow should keep you on your side of the bed, yeah?" Hawks smiled sweetly.

Dabi grumbled something incoherent and they both drifted off to sleep once more.

"Hawks. Hawks. Hawks!" Dabi's voice called sharply in Hawks' ear. The hero kept his eyes shut tightly, hoping that maybe he would just be left alone. It had barely been an hour- Hawks needed sleep! He didn't even know what this dumbass mission was, but he had to be able to slip the Commission a message as soon as possible, and to do that he had to be at the top of his game.

"Hawks if you don't get up right now I'm kicking you off the bed again."

Hawks' eyes fluttered open lazily. Dabi was close- too close- to his face. Hawks' cheeks burned pink as he yelped and went tumbling off the bed again.

Dabi rolled his eyes. "You did that yourself that time."

"So you admit you did it on purpose last time?" Hawks demanded, angrily wishing the blush away. Dabi hadn't seemed to notice or if he did he didn't say anything.

Dabi shrugged. "Perhaps." He paused, watching as Hawks stood and returned to the bed. Hawks noticed absentmindedly that all the covers were on one side of the bed.

"You can't hog the covers, it's cold in here." Dabi explained, pulling the blankets back to his side of the bed and removing the pillow. "I deserve to be able to kick you if you do it again."

Hawks tutted and his wings twitched in annoyance again, but he rolled his eyes and nodded.

"Fine. Stay on your side and I'll keep from stealing the covers." Hawks agreed.

The two fell asleep once more, hopefully for a few continuous hours of sleep with no unscheduled interruptions.

At least he wasn't kicked off the bed. And he didn't steal the covers.

But I'm still most likely facing death. Hawks thought as he woke up.

Somehow, at some point in the night, Hawks and Dabi had ended up- cuddling? Dabi's arms were wrapped tightly around Hawks' waist and the bird's wing was laid gently on top of Dabi's side, covering him like another blanket. Their legs had gotten tangled up in the sheets and it was quite the mess.

I have to get out of this before he wakes up and murders me. Hawks thought desperately, carefully working at pulling his legs away from Dabi's.

After a few moments of struggled pulling, Hawks finally managed to bring his legs to his own side of the bed. How he was supposed to move out of Dabi's grip was an entirely different question, but he had to do something before the villain woke up and decided to burn him alive. Hawks doubted Dabi would do that- for some unknown reason- but it was better safe than sorry, right?

Hawks began to try and pry Dabi's fingers away, biting his lip and holding his breath in an attempt to keep from waking the other up. He froze, eyes wide when Dabi unexpectedly shifted slightly, but- luckily- the villain stayed asleep.

Hawks let out his breath softly and grit his teeth, trying to free himself from the villain's arms- every time he got close to slipping out of his grasp, however, Dabi's sleeping form did something slightly different happened. His breath missed a beat, his arms tightened, his eyes fluttered, or he shifted, making Hawks freeze.

It felt like an hour later when Hawks was finally free from Dabi's grasp- ending with him falling on the ground unceremoniously, a squeak slipping past his mouth.

"Why is this always how you wake up?" Dabi grumbled, peaking over the bed.

Hawks laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head. "Clumsy..." Thank god he didn't wake up a second earlier.

Dabi raised an eyebrow at the hero but didn't say anything else. Hawks stood. "So are we going to go to this mission thing?"

Dabi nodded with his back to Hawks. "Yes. We have to scout out the area..." he trailed off, clearly warning Hawks to not ask anything more. How am I supposed to give the Commission any information if I don't have any? Hawks cleared his throat, hesitating.

"Um... what exactly is this mission?" Hawks asked nervously.

Dabi didn't answer the question. "Get changed." he said instead, gesturing towards the door that must have led to the bathroom.

Hawks sighed internally and sent a feather to grab his bag, slipping into the bathroom.

This is... more difficult than I thought it would be.

It's indirect but it's there! Dabihawks! Only took... 15 chapters... and a Prologue...

Oh well it's really starting now!
