Shigaraki's Threat

Hawks and Dabi finally arrived at the League of Villain's Head Quarters. It seemed to be an old run down bar. The paint was peeling and it smelled faintly like rust and... blood. Hawks swallowed the bile that rose to his throat as he shifted nervously under the villains' stares.

Dabi stood next to him, his presence calming, but the other villains weren't staring at him too kindly. Spinner looked as though he was about to bash his head in, Mr. Compress seemed faintly amused, Warp Gate simply stared, Toga looked as though one wrong move and she'd see to it that his blood repainted the walls, Shigaraki just eyed him while scratching his neck absent-mindedly, and Twice looked curious, as though Hawks were a particularly interesting butterfly.

The fact that none of them looked in the least bit intimidated by the number two hero made Hawks nervous.

Toga broke the silence. "So that new recruit- was Hawks?" She asked, turning her gaze to Shigaraki, who simply nodded. "Crazy. I thought it was someone way different."

"I need a moment alone with our recruit." Shigaraki said quickly, before anyone else even had a chance to speak.

Mr. Compress and Warp Gate exited swiftly, Twice following behind them. Spinner cracked his knuckles loudly before exiting and Toga made sure to flash her knife at Hawks before she left as well.

Dabi hesitated, but also exited without a word.

Now that he was alone with the head of the League of Villains, Hawks couldn't say he wasn't scared. Maybe he should have taken that extra time Dabi had offered.

"So..." Shigaraki drawled, snapping Hawks from his thoughts. "Why is it that the number two hero wants to be a villain? Bored of being the good guy?"

"Hero society is corru-"

"Blah blah, hero society is corrupt, I wanna make a change, blah blah blah." Shigaraki interrupted, waving Hawks' answer away. "Everyone says that same crap. But no. I want the truth. I allowed that answer from the others because they didn't have direct contact with heroes. You are one yourself."

Shigaraki paused before continuing. "Most people wouldn't be too worried about you, because you're so young and such. But here's the thing, hero. You got to number two in- what? Four years? That's quite the impressive feat. Why would you give up all that fame and glory, all that comfort, to be a lousy villain? Are we your adrenaline rush? Is that what you think we are? Or are you a traitor? If I were to let you leave right now would this building be surrounded by cop cars and pros in seconds?"

Hawks allowed his training to kick in as Shigaraki spoke and his wings relaxed. His mind was quickly thinking of a possible route of escape but his eyes remained focused on Shigaraki so the villain wouldn't become suspicious.

"I'm not looking for an adrenaline rush. I'm looking for a change. Hero society is corrupt. I'm a part of that, I see it every day and I won't deny that I haven't used it to my advantage." That part wasn't actually true, Hawks had never used his name as hero to get anything he didn't deserve. He never pulled the, well-I'm-a-hero-so-you-have-to-listen-to-me card- actually he thought it was disgusting when others did.

Shigaraki narrowed his eyes at Hawks. "Exactly my point though. The corruptness in society is working in your favor. Why would you want to give that up?"

(Quick A/N so this doesn't get confusing- these are all old memories. A new memory is seperated by a '-' symbol)

The room was pitch black. The faceless commission member sloshed icy water over Hawks to wake him up, leaving with only a couple words- "Training in an hour."

-

Hawks flew faster and faster, tearing through his stamina, lungs heaving under the stress of pushing himself faster. The future pro saw the place he was to stop and tumbled out of the sky, not enough strength left in him to land properly. The commission member glared coldly at him as he lay on his back, oxygen slowly returning to his lungs. "Not fast enough. You have ten seconds to get up and try again."

Hawks was lucky they were in a good mood today.

-

Hawks nervously sat in the chair, awaiting the inevitable shock. This was by far his least favorite exercise. The Commission was paranoid that he would crack under pain and they had always thought the best way to make sure he'd never do that was to put him through enough of it that dealing with pain was second nature to him. This exercise came twice a week, and once more on test days- always on a Saturday, even though Saturday and Sunday were his days off.

Today's choice of torture? Electrification.

Hawks supposed he should be glad, last time it was a whip- one of Kenji's favorite techniques, which was why Hawks hated it when Kenji led his torture hour as Hawks had named it.

The Commission called it his 'Recreational Period.'

Hawks pushed the memories away hastily, desperately hoping to keep them out of his mind. He had been fairly successful at forgetting about it for the last four years- kind of.

"Hello? Still there?" Shigaraki demanded, looking annoyed. "I asked you a question, I expect an answer."

Hawks felt a burning rage build in his belly before it simmered down quickly. He shouldn't pull out his story as a use of leverage into the league- it wasn't even that bad, really, just a slightly more demanding course than UA's.

Okay, a lot more demanding, but the same idea.

"Being corrupt isn't something I want to be remembered for. I've been part of it for four years. I've been quiet about it for four years. I've ignored it... I've ignored it my whole life, and so has everyone else." Hawks said, hating how true the words were.

But he wasn't a villain. He just had to remember that, but not show it.

Shigaraki smiled darkly and gripped Hawks' wrist tightly, one finger off his skin. "Alright then," the villain said. "But just know... one wrong move and my finger might just slip-" He pressed his pinky down on Hawks skin for a second, allowing a sheering pain to race through Hawks' bones and tears to form in his eyes. The feeling was gone as quickly as it started, for Shigaraki had removed his finger very quickly. All that remained was a deep ache, resonating through Hawks' arm- or wrist more specifically.

Shigaraki stepped back before finishing his threat. "And all that'll remain of Japan's beloved number two hero will be dust."
