Double-Crossing Hero

"Dabi- I have a job for you." Shigaraki said in his raspy voice.

The man in question groaned loudly, placing one more block on the house he was currently building in Minecraft before rolling off the couch and walking toward the bar, where Shigaraki was waiting, not very patiently.

"What?"

"It seems a hero wants to join our league." Shigaraki said, an amused smile on his face.

"Oh really?" Dabi asked, snapping his fingers at Kurogiri for a drink.

"Yes..." Shigaraki laughed a little. "I say we let them."

Dabi grabbed the glass of whiskey Kurogiri had poured for him. "What hero is it?"

"No clue." Shigaraki grabbed Dabi's whiskey out of his hand before he could take a sip and downed it in one. "But they are persistent. I want you to go to them, talk to them, then report back to me."

Dabi stared at his empty whiskey glass before shrugging and deciding he'd get back at his boss later.

"You got that?" Shigaraki asked.

Dabi shrugged. "Seems simple enough."

"Great."

They were silent for about five minutes.

"Before I die, if you will." Shigaraki said, sounding annoyed.

"Shit- you meant now?"

"No, ten years from now. Yes now, you dumbass!"

Dabi rolled his eyes and slipped off the bar stool.

"Where am I meeting this hero?" Dabi asked.

"In the back alley behind Starbucks. Take a hoodie." Kurogiri instructed.

"Why?" Shigaraki asked. "It's not cold."

Dabi rolled his eyes. "It's not because of the weather. It's to hide my face." Who's the dumbass now, dumbass? Dabi thought victoriously.

"I'll take you there Dabi. Then wait until the hero is gone before using this," Kurogiri handed Dabi a small remote with only one button. "To call me to pick you up."

Dabi nodded then stepped through the portal Kurogiri created for him.

He appeared exactly where Shigaraki had said- the back alley behind starbucks.

The hero wasn't there yet. They're not even courteous enough to be here on time? Do they think I have nothing better to do then wait around for them?

Granted he didn't really have anything better to do, but he wouldn't be admitting that to the hero.

He stood leaning against the wall as he watched a blonde man with bright red wings slip into the alleyway, wearing his hero costume.

"Well well. So you're the double-crossing hero." Dabi said, eyeing Hawks with a bored stare.

Hawks bit his lip and nodded.

"You're late, bird."

Hawks laughed nervously. "Y-yeah, I got distracted."

"With what?"

"Hero stuff- you know, you gotta keep up appearances!" Hawks laughed lightly, but he still seemed nervous.

"Uh huh." Dabi wasn't about to make this easy for the hero.

"So uh... you're the speaker for the League, right? Thank you so much for agreeing to this!" Hawks held out a hand.

Dabi eyed it wearily then pulled out a cigarette, lighting it with his finger. Hawks lowered his hand.

"Okay birdie. Why do you want to join the league?" Dabi asked, releasing a cloud of smoke into the air.

Hawks watched the smoke swirl upward then focused back on Dabi once it had disappeared into the atmosphere. "Hero society is corrupt. I've been wrestling with that idea and what I should do about it for a while. Guess I figured it's time to stop thinking and start doing."

Dabi paused a moment and snuffed out his cigarette on the wall he was leaning against- kind of wasteful, but hey, it was bad for his lungs anyway.

"Hm. And why should I believe that? What makes you worth the risk?" Dabi asked, raising an eyebrow at Hawks.

"I'm the number two hero!" Hawks exclaimed, as though that explained everything.

"I'm aware." Dabi raised an eyebrow at the hero, pushing off the wall and coming to stand in front of him, staring down at the shorter male.

Hawks gulped. "And- and I have information on the heroes. I can keep them off your backs and play it off as simple mistakes or not sleeping enough." As if on cue, Hawks yawned.

Dabi rolled his eyes. "Yes. And you could also corner us or arrest us or bug us or track us or-"

"I wouldn't do that! No one's here, are they? Clearly you must trust me a little if you-" Hawks broke off at Dabi's menacing stare.

"I don't trust you bird. Not one bit. I'm here on orders, not my own free will. And I can take care of myself- but some of the other league members..." Dabi broke off, thinking about Toga. She was strong, sure, but she was just a kid. And he wasn't about to run the risk of ruining her life by getting her arrested.

"Anyways, some of the other league members couldn't. And if we were overpowered, none of us would make it out. Why would I risk all of that for a dumb bird?" Dabi finished.

Hawks ruffled his feathers indignantly. "I am not a dumb bird. I could be an asset. You don't have to tell me anything important- you can even give me false information if you want! Test me- and switch it up! Tell me the truth mixed in with lies."

Dabi thought for a moment. It was a half decent idea if he was being honest... but he didn't particularly wish to be blamed if this all went up in flames.

"I'll consider it." Dabi said, pulling his hood up and beginning his walk away from the hero. Dabi flinched at Hawks' hand resting on his shoulder and instinctively pushed him off.

Hawks ignored his reaction. "Thank you." he said simply, before he lifted off into the sky and flew away, the only proof he had been there being a bright red feather that floated down from the sky and landed softly in front of Dabi, before he pressed the button on the little remote thing from Kurogiri and stepped through the portal.
