Broken

Dabi turned the TV off, sighing as he pressed another soft kiss to Hawks' head. Now that he understood these strange feelings he just couldn't stop himself from kissing the hero at every possible moment.

"What's wrong?" Dabi asked, brushing a strand of hair out of Hawks' eyes.

Hawks shrugged, smiling sadly. Something was off.

Sure, Dabi hadn't known Hawks his whole life, nor was he his best friend like Mirko, or his family. But Dabi knew something was off.

"I just... feel bad." Hawks said, looking as though he were arguing with himself over something.

Dabi stiffened, a horrible feeling brewing in the pit of his stomach.

"Why do you feel bad, Hawks?" he asked, semi-consciously. Something was definitely off.

"I..." Hawks trailed off, glancing up at Dabi nervously before slipping out of his arms. Dabi didn't stop him, although it felt weird to not have the hero in his arms. It felt... empty.

"You?"

Hawks backed off the couch, biting his lip. "I'm sorry..." he whispered. "This isn't fair to you."

The words hit like a ton of bricks. Dabi stared at the pro hero, understanding filling his mind. I should have known. I did know.

But he wanted to hear him say it. "What isn't fair to me?"

Hawks gulped and whispered, "I'm... I don't want to join the League. Or I didn't... now... I don't know. But I'm working with the Commission. I... I always was."

I knew it.

Dabi should have known it was too good to be true. Why would someone like Hawks ever want someone like him? It didn't make sense. Dabi shouldn't have let himself pretend, but... but he wished Hawks had waited a little longer before shattering his little daydream.

Ah well. At this point Dabi was pretty used to disappointment, so he knew how to deal with this.

"Okay."

"O-okay?" Hawks stuttered. "What does 'okay' mean?"

Dabi stared at the hero. "Exactly what it sounds like."

The fire erupted immediately, Hawks scrambling back toward his balcony. Dabi rose and sprinted after him, tumbling off the balcony and pushing Hawks down, down, down.

They landed in a sprawled heap on the floor, the apartment building quickly getting burned up behind them.

"I'm sorry, Dabi, really I am! Please let me explain everything, I can explain everything!" Hawks shouted as Dabi pinned him to the floor.

Dabi scoffed. "Not a chance, sorry birdie."

"I promise, I can-"

Dabi cut Hawks off with a special move he had been working on. Just enough fire in his palm to create a cloud of smoke around his victim's face. Hawks passed out on the floor, arms limp.

"A hero who danced a little too close to an open flame." Shigaraki's words from all that time ago replayed in his mind. It would be easy, so easy, to kill Hawks now. The flame burst to life in Dabi's palm... but he couldn't do it.

Dabi grabbed the hero off the ground and slung him over his shoulder, carrying him through back alleys.

Dabi dumped Hawks onto a chair on the wall at the back of the basement at the LOV HQ. He pulled some rope out of a closet and tied Hawks down, knowing full well that the hero would be able to get out of that easily. But, hopefully, it would keep him down for at least a few moments when he woke up so Dabi should have enough time to run upstairs and collect the handcuffs and ankle cuffs the League had acquired from a couple near misses with heroes or police.

Dabi hurried upstairs and grabbed the items he needed, ignoring the burning in his lungs from carrying Hawks and running the entire way here. None of the League was there right then, so as long as he could keep them out of the basement, he wouldn't have to explain why he hadn't just killed Hawks.

In all honesty, even he didn't know why he hadn't been able to. Was he that hooked after just one Disney movie marathon? Dabi had always prided himself on not getting addicted easily but as it seemed, Hawks was one dangerous drug, one that Dabi had allowed himself a taste of, one that could very well be his undoing.

Wonderful, Dabi thought sarcastically.

The villain hurried back downstairs with the cuffs in hand and began restraining Hawks more thoroughly as the hero began to stir.

Before Hawks could say anything Dabi rose and gagged him tightly, Hawks' muffled shout and gag on the cloth were the only noises in the silent basement.

"Don't try escaping Hawks. It'll only end up being worse for you if you do." Dabi muttered as he clicked the final ankle cuff into place. Dabi walked away, only glancing back once to see Hawks blinking away tears.

"Okay, spill. What's wrong, raisin?" Shigaraki asked.

Dabi shrugged and downed his fourth cup of whiskey, desperately hoping the memories of Hawks away. He was definitely addicted, but Dabi was desperate to get off of it. He didn't care how perfect it had felt or how Hawks was warm and soft and beautiful. He was a villain and a villain as dangerous as him wasn't about to be broken apart by feelings that he shouldn't have had in the first place.

Dabi reached for the whiskey to refill his glass but Shigaraki disintegrated the bottle.

"What the hell man?" Dabi demanded angrily.

Shigaraki waved his hand dismissively. "Get over it. Go get yourself wasted it you want to, but answer my question first."

Dabi snapped his mouth shut.

His boss sighed. "It has to do with Hawks, doesn't it?"

"What?" Dabi shot back, perhaps a little too quickly and sharply.

"I know you care about him Dabi, but you and I both know he's a fake." Shigaraki patted his fingers against the bar softly, his palm raised off the marble surface. "Don't go falling for his tricks."

Dabi nodded with an eyeroll. Too late.
