Chapter Fourteen~"You've Changed Me."

The next evening was the night of a big company event for Bruce's family business, and it celebrating a successful 200 years of the business. Bruce had to do a huge speech again which he was nervous about. "You're going to be great, people enjoy listening to you, I enjoy listening to you." I reassured him whilst fixing his tie. He nodded and smiled at my appearance. I had put on a long and basic but elegant sky blue dress. My Grandfather was wearing a white and black suit with a red bow tie and Bruce wore a black and grey suit with a jet black tie. We linked arms and got in another limousine. The venue was absolutely packed which made Bruce more nervous about his speech. He took my hand as we walked in and led me to the table closest to the front with my Grandfather. When it was time for his speech he smiled shyly at me before stepping on the stage with his champagne flute.

"Um, thank you all for coming on this very special evening. Two Hundred years hey? Amazing. I'm so proud of what this company has achieved already, especially in the last hundred years. This company wouldn't be as successful if it wasn't for all of you in this room who has helped it, so thank you, I raise my glass to you. This evening is also in memory of my parents Thomas and Mary, and the success of the Wayne foundation which has helped so many already, so if you would please join me by having a toast to them by raising your glasses." Bruce started before raising his glasses with everyone else to make his toast to his parents. "Thank you. Now talking of thank you, there's some people in here that I'd like to personally thank for helping me with this company or just for their endless support. Firstly I'd like to thank my business manager, Lucius Fox, who helps run the business and keep me in order. Secondly, I'd like to thank my butler Alfred Pennyworth for supporting me and bringing me up when my parents were gone. You've become like a father to me and you've helped me with so much and I appreciate that, so thank you Alfred." My Grandfather smiled widely at what he said and people cheered.

"Lastly, I'd like to thank my girlfriend, Miss Eleanor Pennyworth. You've changed me, you've taught me to love again and to be happy after putting on a brave face for so many years after not having my parents. You've been supportive, caring and I love you so much for that. You're beautiful Eleanor, and the reason why I was nervous about this speech was because I'm going to ask you something. Eleanor Victoria Pennyworth, will you do me the honour of becoming my Mrs Wayne?" Bruce wondered anxiously. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I got up off the chair and joined him on stage to hold his hands. "Yes, of course I will Bruce, I love you." I answered before kissing him to the loud cheers.  He beamed and did one last toast before we enjoyed the rest of the evening which was filled with people saying congratulations to us. I was unbelievably happy.

As soon as we returned home Bruce ran upstairs to get something. When he returned he had a small velvet crimson red box. He opened it to reveal the most beautiful ring. It was silver with a swirled decoration engraved on it and the jewel was a pure sapphire. "This was my mother's engagement ring, it has been passed down her family for 400 years. She told me to give it to the right girl who would change me and make me feel more happy than I have ever felt before. That's you Eleanor, she would've loved you to have it if she met you." Bruce explained lovingly before slipping it on my finger carefully. "They would be so proud of you Bruce. Everything that you've achieved as yourself and Batman is extraordinary, you give people hope." I told him. He lit up and hugged me tightly as a thank you.
