Nothing to fear except fear Itself

 Silent Terror Part 2

LOCATION: Bat Cave

Batman and I drive back to the Bat cave still reeling from the information that we had just gathered,

Gotham City had been turned into a torture play ground for the criminally insane

It was a disgustingly devious plan thought up by a very deranged individual, I could never get behind that state of mind that caused a few individuals to wish such grievous harm to others and the worse thing was that they enjoyed it

When I killed people in my time as a KGB assassin I would feel remorse although most of them were killers themselves I got no pleasure out of taking lives, never

I only hope that that sentiment wasn't just me trying to convince myself.

<No, no I wasn't that person anymore come on Romanoff back to the present.>

I could see out of the corner of my eye Batman intently watching me, he always seemed to know when I was getting lost in thoughts but even if I could talk about how I was feeling I don't feel much like sharing.

We pull into the secret entrance way behind a waterfall to the Bat Cave and bring the Bat Mobile to a full stop on the parking pad.

<sometimes I forget how amazing this is I spent a good 50 years working alone but I wasn't alone anymore I have a team ,no more than just a team, I have friends>

We exit the vehicle and walk deeper in to the cave where we see everyone is sitting around the main area which is where we meet every couple of days to discuss important business.

Barbra has a large black board displayed in front of our meeting area and she also has a ginger cat in her arms everyone sits down and watches intently she tries to address the room as a teacher would

"I think I might have solved one of our problems" she writes on the black board in white chalk, well anything thing that helps us in our current calamity would be very useful, suddenly Barbra places the small ginger feline on the table, I was curious what she was getting at.

Barbra begins to make some noises with a cat toy that had a small bell hanging on the end of it, of course everyone cannot hear the bell and we look at each other with the same puzzled look on everyone's face, but the cat seems to react to it.

Tim writes on his board "So it doesn't affect animals?"

Barbra flips over the massive Blackboard

"Animals have a very acute sense of hearing in normal situations most animals can hear sounds at much higher frequency than humans it comes to reason that somehow the Scarecrow has trapped all relative sound above the human hearing range but low enough that animals can still hear" Barbra explains

I think I was beginning to understand we were so busy focusing on if it was a biological or chemical problem but it was neither of the above, we need to be looking at physics

"Radio waves" I sign to Batman he nods in response

"You're a genius" I sign to Barbra and with a smile and a shrug she responds "I know".

Barbra throws me something, I quickly catch it directly in the palm of my hand

They look like earpieces but a bit more bulky with some sort of switch on them Barbra motions for me to put them in my ears.

I put the devices in my ears

Dick smiles and writes on his board "You know Natasha with your age I've been telling you to invest in some hearing aids" I resist the urge to throw something at him.

Suddenly as I turn them on I hear a sudden pop as if the pressure in the room had just increased, the cat Barbra was holding makes a soft meow noise,

I give her a thumbs up to let her know that they work,

She writes "I've only got two pairs"

Batman motions for her to give him the other pair she throws the devices to him and he places them in his ears

"Well?" I ask him

"The sound of your voice is music to my ears Romanoff"

I smile back to normal now we just need to restore hearing to the whole city but Batman already has a theory,

"The Scarecrow would need a really good transmitter to emit a signal that large over such a distance and only one Radio station in Gotham has a transponder large enough".

The Gotham FM station was in the financial district of town which is only a few miles from where each of the bodies were found, but before we can stop the Scarecrow, order needed restoring to the city,

Tim begins to enthusiastically raise his hand to get everyone's attention

"I have an Idea!" he writes Tim walks over to the Bat Computer, a message is displayed on the screen along with the Bat symbol it reads;

"Remain calm and stay in your homes the situation will be resolved shortly"

Tim was planning to hack into the same radio signal from the Bat Computer to every TV in Gotham and yes whilst it was a good plan it has its flaws I turn to Batman it's his call after all

"You know if we transmit this Scarecrow will know that we are coming for him" I tell him he looks thoughtful as if trying to think of an alternative but cannot

"The City is in chaos our primary objective needs to be to restore calm" he nods at Tim giving him the heads up to transmit that message everywhere, the people in Gotham respect the Batman they trust him he is Gotham's protector if he tells people to remain calm the citizens will listen.

As soon as the message is displayed we jump in the Bat mobile, we click our seatbelts in an eerie synchronisation the roof of the car automatically closes above our heads shielding us from the outside elements,

The dash board lights up every panel had a light blue light illuminating the plush interior of the car the light reflected across our sleek black outfits making everything look dark blue,

I look back at all of the members of the Bat family waving at us I could see the concern written on their faces and their frustration at being left at home where they're all safe but that was our main reason for leaving them there they wouldn't be sufficient enough in a fight and they could get hurt of course that's the most important fact.

"We will be walking in to a trap" he says breaking the silence that hung in the blue illuminated air,

I smirk in response thinking about the fact that we had the same conversation back on my first day in town

"Well that will just make things more interesting wont it"

I was not scared of walking into an apparent trap neither was I scared of dying, it was something instilled in to me as a child after all my friend needs me and I would stand by him till the end of the line.

The streets had gotten eerily quiet Tim's plan had worked I couldn't even see anyone near the large Gotham FM building no guards it looked easy but it never was,

"Ready?" Batman asks me

"Always Partner" I reply.

The main lobby was a mess it looked like a tornado had hit it, chairs and tables turned everywhere except upright it was too quiet it was almost a new level of quiet a soft harmonic buzz drifted through the air as if confirming our suspicions,

The electrics in this building were working and they were powering something big,

I hear a loud metal clunk and the shutters on the glass windows drop cutting off the light that was coming in from the lamps outside.

Using as much strength as we can muster we try and lift them up but we just can't seem to get a grip, my finger tips begin to ache as I try so hard that I was nearly denting the metal but it was to no avail.

I taste something sour in the air almost like if there was a mix of a penny and a lemon on my tongue the horrible taste causes my face to cringe in disgust, I realized then that it was in the air it was knock out gas,

Suddenly the next thing I know Batman drops to the floor violently coughing he grasps at his neck,

"Gas!" he cries out mid cough

I pick him up and attempt to drag him in to the furthest corner in an attempt to bide him some more time as the gas doesn't affect me the experimentation from my Red room days granted me an immunity from most drugs, but I'm so busy trying to help my friend catch his breath it is already too late when I hear somebody walk up behind me and whack me painfully on the head and everything fades to black.

LOCATION: Gotham FM

I'm waking up my eyelids felt so heavy and ugh my head hurts,

I think I am in a basement lots of these old buildings had dank basements that were mostly used for storage but were currently abandoned,

My stingers and utility belt had been taken not that I would need them to escape my restraints, but it would take a minute or two which was still too long as I could sense others in the room I couldn't grab the hair pin that I keep in my hair without any of them noticing

(they never check the hair).

I'm relieved to see Batman is asleep next to me the gas was still keeping him out, but my relief is short lived

I feel something hot and sharp in my right arm, a syringe and whatever was in the syringe felt like acid, it burns my nerves and veins

I felt sick to my stomach, so sick that I begin to feel bile rise in my throat but I hold it back

I feel someone's breath close to my cheek and it smelt bad like the guy hadn't brushed in ages and then I hear the Scarecrow's haunting voice in my ear, far too close

"I've always wondered what would scare the big bad Black Widow what I just gave you was five times the amount of fear toxin than any other normal person can handle call it an experiment of sorts and I'm just dying to see the results"

The thing is Scarecrows fear toxin actually dose affect me, but because of my training fear is an emotion that I had always been able to repress,

But not this time, no this time I was going to have to face my fears.

I love this team I like to think it works (I like to call it BatWidow p.s this is not a ship more of a bromance) Things get emotional for Natasha as she is forced to face her fears in the next chapter and Scarecrow is just far too creepy brrr. :-p Thank you for reading chapter 9 please keep reading and comment below I would really appreciate a vote if you liked this chapter. xxxxxxxxx
