NATASHA'S POV

An Unforgiving Anniversary Part 6

Rule Number one is always not to panic,

I go into a meditative state to remain calm a little trick I picked up in Tibet, but unfortunately Jack was struggling with the keeping calm part

"D-don't worry Na-Natasha everything is going to be ok ha ha –ha" Jack chokes on the last laugh I eye him cautiously I need to calm him down before he transforms into the Creeper that's the last thing I need.

I put on my strong face "Ryder I need you to listen to me I need you to massage my leg right here to keep the blood flowing"

I know it was an odd request but it was the only way to avoid severe frost bite.

He nods his head vigorously and begins to do so I intend to keep my eye on him to make sure his hands don't stray too far but he looks far too panicked to try anything.

I send an SOS to Nightwing's communicator but I don't know how long it might take him to get here.

My leg begins to feel better but Jack still looks on the Verge of losing it so I decide to take a risk "Little trick I picked up on a survival course in Siberia" I tell him, he looks at me with blank eyes

"The leg massage trick I mean" I tell him as I motion towards my leg he nods his head still looking at me with distant eyes

"How about we get to that interview" my words snap him out of it and he looks at me in disbelief but quickly gets his recorder out of his jacket pocket.

.---------------------------------.

"Ok- ok people know you as the Black Widow the red headed terror of the night but what about Natasha Romanoff where did you come from you've got to have family somewhere?" uh wow straight in with the uncomfortable questions but I suppose I offered

"I never met my family, I was born in Stalingrad in 1923" his eyes widen in shock as he tries to work out how old that makes me

"Yes that means I'm 94 years old but more on that later, not long after I was born Nazi soldiers invaded my home town my father tried to protect us so they shot him dead and set fire to our house, my siblings were the first to perish and to save me my mother threw me from a window to the arms of a Russian soldier below before she too died in the fire"

I pause to see Jacks face I knew that this had to be a lot to take in but his face was a blank slate,

Ever the professional I think to myself and I'm grateful for that I disliked it when people felt sorry for me.

"The soldiers name was Ivan Petrovich he took care of me and I couldn't have asked for a better father he raised me on the battlefield and taught me basic fighting skills and how to shoot but we couldn't keep it up so the Russian government offered me a private military education and we couldn't say no to that but the Red Room Academy wasn't all it seemed the academy was funded by the USSR and the KGB to train the female pupils into assassins and for 10 years it was a brutal competition for the title of 'Black Widow' and hate to state the obvious but here I am today"

I begin to get the feeling back in my leg "What did they do to you in the Red Room?" he asks obviously he is also starting to feel like himself again

"When I fought the other girls there were no second chances we fought to kill look I've done a lot of things that I'm not proud of and I'll leave it at that" the look in his eyes showed that he understood my meaning

"Once I became the Black Widow the experiments began the frozen aging the strength enhancements the endurance training and the increased healing factor truth is I was beginning to wonder if I was still human"

I pause "Around 10 years ago I was sent on a mission to assassinate a deflector from the Soviet Union who sought refuge in a monastery in the Himalayan mountains, my orders were strict to only use a high powered sniper rifle from a 200 meter distance but the severe snow storm meant that visibility was near impossible so I disobeyed my orders and went in"

I stop as a lump begins to form in my throat as that act changed my life forever

"I confront the target he turns around to face me but I had already pulled the trigger" I push my tears back before they can fall down my face"and it was Ivan I had just killed my father Jack"

I suddenly feel a warm tear fall down my frozen face,

Jack stops recording

"The rest you know I met the Batman and became a vigilante then I moved to Gotham" it felt good to get that off my chest even if it was to a complete stranger

"Natasha I-" but before Jack can finish his sentence the ice barrier blocking the exit breaks down and Nightwing collapses on the floor.

He looks at us with a goofy grin plastered on his face "To The Rescue" he loudly announces with a giant grin plastered on his exhausted face.

LOCATION: Wayne Manor

POV: Bruce Wayne

The Grandfather clock chimes at mid-day as Alfred walks in to the room with a silver tray of sandwiches and tea,

But I'm too preoccupied to eat anything,

I can't stop thinking about what Tim said I shouldn't be keeping this secret from Natasha or the rest of the family

"Tim I need your opinion and please be honest with me" Tim swallows a large mouthful of food and nods

"Uh sure thing" he mumbles but he looks confused at the odd request

"Tim What would you think about me and Natasha as being more than friends" Tim's eyes widen in glee at the possibility,

I knew he saw Natasha as a mother type figure and it would really complete Tim's idea of us being a family but he remains professional in his advice giving

"Uh Bruce I'm not really a love expert" Tim reminds me

"Tim please your opinion is really important to me" and it was true I needed some advice I just can't believe I'm asking a 10 year old

"Ok where to start? Um what exactly do you love about her?"

Oh god where to start

"Natasha Romanoff isn't like any other woman I've ever met she's practically an entire different being altogether she is kind, intelligent, funny and beautiful it's no secret that I've screwed up a lot sometimes but even through my darkest moments Natasha has always stood by me no matter what but she is most definitely her own woman first, last and always and I love that about her she sees the world in such a unique way and will always strive to make the world a better place"

I didn't realize it but I was rambling Tim looks at me with a giant cheeky grin plastered on his young face

"You need to tell her" he quickly says but it was a lot easier said than done,

Natasha had told me first hand back when we first started working together that she wasn't looking for a romantic relationship and I had been ok with that at the time but feelings and circumstances had changed.

I faced rejection before but could I handle rejection from Natasha it could cost me our entire friendship and that friendship means everything to me,

But then I look back at Tim and the look on his face melts my heart a bit

"Please tell her" he begs again "Ok I'll take her to crime alley tonight when I visit my parents I'll tell her then" I can't remember the last time I felt this nervous.

I look to my left where the door to the living room was slightly ajar I know that Alfred is there listening to our conversation he looks round the corner and gives me a reassuring smile.
