An Unforgiving Anniversary Part 5

LOCATION: Wayne Enterprises Labs

Dick's POV

"I don't know what's worse Tweety bird this insufferable cold or the whiff of all of those hair products in that nest you call hair no wonder the ozone is in such jeopardy" 

Man this guy can complain like it was a sport, but once you criticize the hair it's game on

"Firstly the names Nightwing Mr I hogged all the doughnuts, secondly can you keep it down a bit and lastly it's called a Mullet and its cool not that you would know anything about fashion doughnuts" I reply with as much sass as I can muster,

I notice Bullocks face begins to turn red like a tomato it makes me snigger a bit thinking about the comparison,

"Listen Kid that hairstyle was come and gone in to style before you were even born and if you want to argue about style how about we talk about those green tights you used to wear huh" Bullock yells,

I begin to fathom a comeback when suddenly I hear a light thumping noise "shh" I tell him as I bring one finger up to my lips

"Don't you 'shh' me boy" he says when suddenly we both hear the thumping noise again but it is much louder this time Bullock retrieves his gun from it's holster in case of trouble.

Our attention is turned towards the large cafeteria doors where the thumping noise was coming from ice surrounded the door,

I put my ear up to the door and it is very cold to the touch and I can hear faint voices coming from the other side of the door,

I try to use my miniature blowtorch that I kept in my suit to try and break through the door, but before I can do anything else Bullock pushes me out of the way and just kicks down the door, well I suppose that's one way to do it, brute force.

Inside the room must be a good 30 people sitting on the floor shaking that's when I realized that we had just found the employees of Wayne Labs.

"Thank god finally someone found us" yells an older man who looked to be turning a deathly shade of blue most likely from being locked in this freezer of a room for so long, 

Then I recognised the older man I knew as Doctor Reed he was the head scientist here last I heard Wayne Enterprises hired him for his expertise on unnatural weather activities.

"It's ok just tell me what happened" I try and support the struggling older man as Bullock leads the other employees out of the room

"It- It was Victor Freeze he told us all to stay quiet in here or he would kill us" he tells me but the troubling fact is if they'd stayed in this room much longer they would have probably frozen to death anyway

"Where is he and What was he after?" I ask the doctor he looks at me with a very disorientated look on his blue face almost like he could see two of me

"He wanted to know where Wayne Enterprises main computer hub was an- and he wanted the secret project" he says in a breathless tone

"What is it?" I ask but before I could get a reply the man faints out of exhaustion.

Natasha's POV

"Is it just me or is it getting colder in here?" Jack asks I could almost hear his teeth chattering, but he was right the breath in front of my face was a cloudy white it almost reminded me off the Red Room in winter

"What could Victor be looking for?" Gordon asks as he carefully examines the path of the next hallway and holding out his gun in case of a trap.

I sort of had an idea what Victor could be looking for,

Wayne Enterprises new secret project but I use the term 'secret' lightly because Bruce couldn't wait to tell me about their latest break through

It was a device that could alter the weather and of course Wayne Enterprises intend for it to be used for humanitarian purposes only such as growing crops in countries suffering from drought and preventing natural disasters but in the hands of Mr Freeze it could be used to destroy Gotham City.

We pass through the security doors leading the main labs I notice that the lock on the security doors has been expertly deactivated by someone with insider knowledge Mr Freeze would have just frozen it

"Not exactly Victors MO is it?" Gordon says whilst inspecting the broken lock I swear it was almost like he could read my mind

"No it isn't" I reply as I open the door and an even colder blast of air hits me like a slap in the face but I'm not the only one suddenly out of nowhere a chair comes flying at us like a speeding car and knocks Gordon out cold,

Jack and I both turn around to see Mr Freeze standing there.

I push Jack out of the way before we can be hit by a blast from a freeze gun

"I was expecting company but once I'm rid of you nothing will get in my way" he says I can't let him get away the fate of Gotham could depend on it.

Out of the corner of my eye I see Jack Ryder dragging Gordon out of the line of fire into a side room, I dodge another blast from the freeze gun.

I cartwheel backwards down the hallway my hands barely grazing the icy slippery floor I was lucky that whilst in the Red Room most of my training was done under similar cold surroundings,

I can feel that Victor is getting frustrated no matter how hard he tries he just can't hit me because my reflexes are too quick.

I'm finally backed up against the wall I crouch like a spider supporting myself with just one hand just waiting for the right moment,

Suddenly the moment arrives when his freeze gun malfunctions slightly and without hesitation I throw a Widow's Bite at him and his electrical suit begins to go out of control from the surge of electricity, but he quickly shrugs it off as if it didn't bother him but it most certainly slowed him down.

I run at him at full speed and I kick him as hard as I can in the centre of his chest the impact sends him flying through a solid wall and in to the next room.

The room looks like the central hub for the entire facility all of the screens are on standby except for one, I inspect the screen closer and in big letters displayed on the screen are the message

"Uploading 72%" and the percentage was rising quickly,

In the USB port was a device that was connecting the computer to an external system, but before I can take it out I see that Mr Freeze has recovered his gun however I'm too late too late to react.

I feel my left leg begin to go numb but I'm suddenly pushed aside by Jack Ryder,

I didn't realize it right away but my leg was frozen to just below my left knee,

I try not to panic when I was in Russia I had dealt with frostbite before but nothing like this.

Victor removes the device from the USB port "This is where I leave you I would advise you save your breath you're going to need it" he says as he uses his gun to block off the exit leaving us to freeze to death.
